Been lurking for a while here. Finally decided to invest some money in Wahed mainly because of the Syariah compliance, exposure to the US and decent track record.

Went Very Aggressive because YOLO tongue.gif

Hoping to contribute to this thread. Cheers.

Market Review: 16 - 20 November 2020

Return of funds used by Wahed Invest were mixed last week, with MMID +2.9%, RHB IBF 0.0% while HLAL and GOLD declined -0.6% and -2.0% respectively. The S&P 500 closed -0.8% week-on-week as US investors digested positive vaccine news with increased restrictions to curb recent spikes in COVID-19 cases that may hamper the economy further. Back home, the KLCI edged up +0.3% week-on-week supported by late Friday’s surge in the healthcare sector led by the gloves counters on bargain hunting and increased global COVID-19 figures.

HLAL MMID RHB IBF GOLD
-0.60% 2.90% 0.00% -2.00%
Table 1: Week-on-week returns (16 Nov 2020 - 20 Nov 2020)

Market Outlook: 23 - 27 November 2020

The US market direction in the near term is expected to be a balancing act between positive sentiment driven by vaccine developments and concerns on negative impact on economic activity as more restrictions are imposed to slow down the pandemic. Sector rotation between previous market leaders (e.g. tech counters) and laggards (e.g cyclical counters) is expected to persist. Locally, more companies will post 3rd quarter earnings. Add this to the upcoming voting session for Budget 2021 on 26 Nov, this week’s market activity may see some volatility.

Pressing Points: Long Term Holding Power Negates Short Term Uncertainties

Year-to-date, all funds are still gaining in terms of total return, with HLAL +16.3%, MMID +41.7%, RHB IBF +4.7% and GOLD +19.9%. One of the most underrated aspects of investing is holding power. For long term investors with diverse exposures, sudden market declines should not be a cause for immediate concern. Over the medium to long term (typically 5 years and more), markets always rise. Short term market dips should be contextualized over its longer historical performance, and in most cases these would be inconsequential blips. Therefore, we continue to advocate investors to stay the course and focus on long term growth because with holding power, investors will be able to ride out any crisis. Investing early and consistently is the key to financial success later in life.

True. I'm hoping that once Biden comes in and this covid-19 nonsense is over, we'll see a steady rise.

I have a long investment horizon so not too concerned about short term crashes. Have been keeping my money in ASB exclusively, so would like to diversify my future investments to hopefully grow my retirement fund further/faster/bigger/etc.

Why COVID-19 is considered nonsense?
It's a worldwide pandemic that tends to happen every 100 years once.

You can open a gold Wahed second account, since you entered Wahed when Hlal etf and mmid etf are ATH at Very Aggressive. Gold is low now.

I was initially fond of the idea of a shariah based robo advisor, but i don't like that they have Malaysian stocks in the portfolio (except for very low risk allocations). Wish there was an option to load up the equity allocation with US/global stocks only.

Hows the fx transaction costs compared to SA/MT?

You can use Bset Invest App, same like Wahed but there has 2 choice, using their portfolio or you do it yourself. You can choose where to load up the equity by percent by your own.

Best Invest is Bimb' funds only i believe, and Bimb's fund performance has been miserable for decades. I wouldnt go to them. Only the Bimb i Growth fund is ok this year. It too stank for decades actually.

BEST is investing in unit trust funds not ETF like SAMY and Wahed.
It's like Raiz.

You can't beat the etfs' prices end of march, but usd has depreciated now compared to then, so buying the etfs now under Very Aggressive is not as bad as it could have been.

Hmm. Your risk tolerance? Haha. If one time deposit today, next month crash. How you gonna react?

If dca monthly today, your first monthly deposit tiba2 next month all time high. How? Haha

Just do both? If it were me. Haha. Let say you have RM10k, 5k lump sum, the other 5k you put in asb or (savings account) first,

then slowly withdraw for DCA.

I just one time deposit and hope for the best. Honestly, I'll be happy if Wahed outperforms ASB or EPF over the next 10 years.
