Market update - September 2020

Our latest market commentary is now ready. Stay up to date with the markets by clicking on the below button.

"After the furious market rally following March 2020’s COVID-induced low, equities finally took a breather and retraced some of those gains. The Wahed FTSE USA Shariah ETF was up 67% from March 23rd’s low through the end of August (the S&P 500 was up approximately 58% during the same period); September saw U.S. stock markets drop approximately 4%."

Payment date is 30/9/2020.
I guess you can only see in October statement if there's any unit increase for HLAL on 1/10/2020.

No way to see from the app until October statement is generated.

As our valued investor, we want to keep you informed and abreast with the latest market development and how your investment is holding up. Writing on behalf of Wahed Invest, I’ll be sharing with you some of the key highlights on what’s going on this week:

Market Review: 26 - 30 October 2020

Most funds used by Wahed Invest declined last week, with HLAL -6.4%, RHB IBF -1.3% and GOLD -1.6% while MMID gained +2.7%. US markets fell due to disappointing third quarter earnings reactions, uncertainties on fiscal stimulus and increasing coronavirus cases . KLCI fell to a five-month low on Friday amid foreign selling and weakening commodity prices.

-6.4% +2.7% -1.3% -1.6%
*Table 1: Week-on-week returns (26 Oct 2020 - 30 Oct 2020)

Market Outlook: 2 - 6 November 2020

The same triggers last week (weak company earnings, negative news on fiscal stimulus and rising coronavirus cases) could weigh on markets again this week, with an added uncertainty from the US election on 3 Nov. Locally, expect the market to be volatile ahead of a possible interest rate cut on 3 Nov and Budget 2021 tabling on 6 Nov.

Pressing Points: Longer Term Market Performance Still Intact

Year-to-date, all funds are still seeing healthy gains in total return, with HLAL +7.0%, MMID +20.4%, RHB IBF +4.5% and GOLD +22.9%. In the short term, the market experiences volatility due to uncertainties, for example due to the upcoming election for the US market and due to political wrangling in the local market. However, the market will reconnect with fundamentals in the long term as evident by the year-to-date and longer-term performance.
