anyone tried using RHB invest to buy foreign stocks? my remisier says fee for selling is 0.42% same as local rate, but I am guessing they will charge higher exchange rate, any experience with them?

Hello there, i already register under trade station global.

But when i login, i re-direct me into IKBR Au (australia) page. Is it correct?
Or i registered wrongly? from my understanding it suppoes to direct me to IKBR HK.
Another things is, for first time i try to deposit with $50 usd, everything is smooth with 1 day $50 creditted into my account.

Then for second deposit i try to deposit with $200 usd, but this time $25 deducted from my account. They only deposit $175.

Then for third time i tried again deposit $250 usd, again this time $25 deducted from my account. They only deposit $225usd.

May I know what fees incur for $25? I tried to cobntact support, but their support quite slow to response

you must have used tt/wire... kena intermediary bank fee $25

how come he wasn't charged $25 for $50 transfer?

if transfer $25, then will you get $25 in your account or $0?  laugh.gif

intermediary bank sometimes not used... I dunno why

I was trying to understanding the swift money xfer routes to see which bank to which bank can bypass intermediary banks

I now know which are the intermediary banks for usa and Malaysia, I just don't know if using them directly can bypass the $25 fee

QUOTE(bellamy85 @ Oct 29 2020, 03:33 AM)
If using local bank eg Maybank they charge min $25 USD per transaction. Mean buy and sell already cost $50 USD.

After doing some reading, the best available option with capital <RM50k (below $10kusd) is by using white label broker such as Tradestation Global.

However transfering using TT/wire into IBKR still got intermediary fees $25 USD. Thus the best way is to open  CIMB Fast Saver SG account, deposit it $1,000 SGD to activate the account.

After that can use money transfer / fintech such as Instarem or TransferWise to deposint IBKR account. So this probably the cheapest rate for cheapskate like me?

I mean let say i planning to transfer $500 USD per transaction, if using TT/Wire Maybank > IBKR i will be charged $25 USD and higher fx rates if using local bank, but if i use CIMB Fastsaver > Transferwise > IBKR.

Then how much actually can save me for  per $500 USD? Since their rate is lower compared to local bank.

Im planning to spend $500 USD to $1000 per stocks only, planning to diversified 10-20 stocks.

I am just curious on the procedure required to transfer our share holding from one brokerage to IBKR (TSG), and the associated fees.
*
depends on sending brokers...some can do online, no fees... so just need to fill up xfer request, and ibkr deposit notification. while others need to show face, pay fees...

Curious to know - does Maybank (where i hold some of my US stocks) offer such transfer? to IBKR ?
*
best check with them... if high value is better to xfer so you don't pay too much commission and exchange rate loss... if not much maybe less hassle just liquidate

Possibly already closed for Malaysians.

To withdraw, you'll need the CIMB SG account.

Hi guys, I have applied for IBKR account via Tradestation over the weekend but it has yet to be approved. Is this normal? How long does it usually take? Am also unsure if its IBKR or Tradestation that processes the application. Thanks.

Sorry but no offence. I thought creating send money request is sending money to IBKR? My issue is that I can't receive payment from IBKR on Transferwise. Would you mind screenshot the options of doing what you said. Thanks
*
i've never tried from ibkr yet... but i've been sending money from overseas to malaysia

when you create "send money" in tw... it just tell tw to expect some money coming in, and they need to send some going out....yes?

right now you ask bank to send money to tw, and tw sends to ibkr, so reverse flow is ask ibkr to send to tw, and tw sends to your bank...recipient is yourself

Woah that's a new discovery for me. Never knew I had access to these currencies' local bank accounts under my name (USD, AUD, NZD, SGD, EUR, GBP) rclxm9.gif

Just randomly tested the SGD ones and I was able to transfer from my CIMB SG to TransferWise SG account without fees (local transfer); both under my own names. Theoretically it'll work as you said for IBKR withdrawal. Maybe someday I'll try out the GBP/USD withdrawal (my stocks are mostly GBP / USD / HKD) and see how it goes.

Thanks for sharing!!!

Edit : not sure why I had borderless account, but I applied mine way long ago and left it idle sweat.gif

you must have biggrin.gif

I have tw long ago, but didn't activate borderless... now option gone

So, that means if you have a borderless account, you basically have a worldwide banking account? No need to open CIMB SG, Hang Seng in HK, Barclays in UK, Citibank in US and you can transfer money all over the world? All within a multicurrency bank account?

Am I getting this right?

in a way...yes

after pooing around, it's only good for receiving money (no fees) but sending it out from the balance will incur fees just like typical transferwise transactions (including same currency local SGD - SGD transfer). So best use case would only be receive money in X currency then send it back to MYR
*
yeah....each currency have different withdrawal fee from the borderless account

tbh...no best use case for us actually, no reason to park money there

Anyone know how to buy and sell on same day and combine the transaction into one so that will only incur one time charge?

Also IB seems to practice the fact that you must hold the stocks in question after you sell then only you can rebuy it.

Eg.
Buy -> Sell -> Buy - not possible until T+1 is over
Buy -> Sell -> wait for T+1 then can buy
*
1...cannot

2...margin acc...pdt apply
