With the successful trial on Swiss shares, I tried to contact Taiwanese authorities for my TSMC dividend WHT refund but my request submission was rejected and could not be sent.

You guys can try here:
https://service.mof.gov.tw/Eng/ServiceEmail/Index?nodeid=338

EDIT: I have successfully contacted the National Taxation Bureau of Taipei, MOF of ROC Taiwan. Will updates you guys when the I receive replies.

Alright, Taipei branch replied me and referred me to Hsinchu branch instead, where TSMC is located. So need to wait for next week for more updates.

Hi, I have reached the final verification stage and waiting for approval from IBKR side. I just want to ask, did you guys encounter the error message below during your application?

We're sorry, but we had to log you out and end your session. Either a problem occurred on our server or you were automatically logged out due to inactivity.

Received this message incessantly, and I had to alternately log in and log out during the whole stage of my application. A real frustrating experience. Any magic to stop this?
*
Can't remember if I encounter this error. You can contact IBKR's customer service to request for help or just try your best to finish the application within one to two "logins". If you have Skype, a toll-free call (free of charge) from Skype allows you to call them from your PC/phone and talk directly with a US customer rep, line starts around 8-9 a.m. US Eastern time (8-9 p.m. here).

For Skype call, the steps are here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...#entry101660597

Err, you can buy the US ADRs, no? Nestle, Roche, Novartis ADRs are in OTC pink, I can't buy on IB, but I have Unilever's ADR, no WHT on dividends.

Only additional risks are counterparty risk from ADR custodian banks and currency risk compared to investing in the European exchanges directly.

Don't waste money on them. You want medical, go for the king. JnJ. Their options also not bad. Can earn around min 10%p.a via JnJ options. Was tempted but decided against it.

You do know you can enable OTC trading via IBKR right? That way you can buy stuff like tencent from us instead of HK. I would have buy my tencent in US if they had options. Unfortunately no options. Only available in HK hence I buy HK version.

Of the list only ASML is worth buying for me.

PSgoing to publish my options guide by next week hopefully.
*
Yes I have JNJ.

I guess I need to request an industry insider to review your post before publishing, given your temptation to promote such derivative products and unusually high risk tolerance.

Maybe ask Cubalagi (in the industry) or wongmunkeong (staff) or HolyAssasin4444 (major in derivatives) biggrin.gif

hi , i have open IBKR account , but i am unsure where the IBKR based in.
IF the IBKR based in US , and my share is with HKEX , HK, will my dividend received will get withholding tax in US ? May i know how to swift the account to HK/Singapore and is it necessary?
*
Hello. If you start from pure IBKR (not delinked from TSG) then you are affiliated with IBKR US. Your shares in HK is subject to tax in HK only, nothing to do with US. There are no capital gain tax or dividend withholding tax in HK as of now. You can't shift the account to HK/SG according to what Yggdrasil last posted.

Trust me I’ve done that. The old E-application and online account opening. I’ve been cockblocked so many times I can’t be bothered anymore. I’ve also went to all(two) the branches in my small city.

And also for the recent E-account opening they don’t allow new-to-bank customers to open online anymore. So everything still need to go physical bank.
*
CIMB always difficult to handle compared to other banks. Did you mention stuffs like you like their rates, services etc?

Don't mention the word "investment" even though that is the purpose of opening the account, just say "savings purpose while enjoying their services" will do.

Hi,

Planning to open IBKR account but does anyone know if IBKR can trade stock in IDX? Any suggestion apart from IBKR which platform can trade IDX?
*
According to IBKR's list of available exchanges(https://www.alibabagroup.com/en/ir/presentations/pre211118.pdf) IDX is not one of them.

Popular "social" trading apps like Futu's Moomoo and TIGR do not offer services on IDX either. You can look for local banks. I have found out that Affin Hwang eInvest offers trading services on IDX. https://einvest.affinhwang.com/share-trading

However, as it is not a popular option among investors, be prepared to pay higher fees compared to other exchanges.

Utrade by UOBKH and Hone Leong eBroking do not offer trading services on IDX.

Thanks TOS. Yes the fees is very much higher for local banks. Mb offer it as well but is a offline order and with hefty fees
*
Any reason why you want to trade on IDX? Most funds go there for Telkomsel's dividend. Maybe you are preparing for GoTo's IPO? Or interested in Bukalapak?

hi, anyone know the commission/brokerage/fees that ibkr charges for ADR? is it the same as normal stocks? can't find it in their website. tq
*
Same charges as US shares, but careful of ADR pass-through fees when you collect dividend. They didn't state the actual amount as it differs from one custodian bank to another.

Thanks for the links.

No problem.

The list of custodian banks that will incur charges are somewhat outdated though. Unilever Plc is not in Deutsche Bank's list but I am still charged a few cents of fees, so beware of that. Anyway, IB will send a notice to you via message center if the particular ADR's custodian bank will charge you the pass-through fees, so keep an eye on the message center notification. And check the dividend section of the daily report on IBKR's online portal around ex-date, the fees will show up there.

Thanks for the advice! Really appreciate it. Few cents ok la for small potato like me. Though not sure about the dividends.
*
I can give you a rough picture with my experience. I have 8 Unilever ADRs, the most recent dividend declared per ADR is 0.4975 USD per share, I am charged a total of 0.04 USD of pass-through fee (for all 8 units). So it is about (0.04/8)/0.4975 or 1% of your dividend.

Hi Sifus, any ideas or recommendations for which US stocks to invest on? Looking for high dividends which can generate some passive income in the long run~
*
While what Ram says make sense, it is important to consider after-tax yields too. If the after-tax yield is the same as the peers in SG, HK or the UK markets, you can consider them too.

QUOTE(cody1999 @ Dec 10 2021, 06:23 PM)
A few weeks ago I saw a discussion about Swiss withholding tax and decided to claim a refund by using customised daily activity statement with ‘account details’, ‘withholding tax’ and ‘dividends’ on the day the dividend was paid instead of paying CHF 15 for a tax voucher. And today the extra tax withheld is transferred to my bank account.

However, I can’t guarantee that that will always work because after all, the activity statement is still not a proper tax voucher.
*
Hi cody. Thanks for the confirmation. Could you elaborate more in further details the steps you took to request for the refund?

From my email with the Swiss tax authorities, I need to mail a tax form to Switzerland to claim the refund. How did you do that directly? Is it via IB? Or did you write directly to the Swiss authorities with the documents attached?

Thanks again for the confirmation.

CODDK,....

If you already have investments in SG which are REITs and divvy stocks, then perhaps it is right that you look at earning dividends from instruments based in The USA too. And yes, if yuo do this,... you will have to look past the 30% dividend tax.

I'll provide some input here for I've been looking at this.

First point : Earning 6% or thereabout yield is better than earning zero yield on your US Dollar holdings, right ?

And after some thinking and researching,... I am looking at PFLT. I am looking at something called BDCs - Business Development Companies. Why don't you guys look these up in the net,... and give me your input too.

Now,... I've let out some ideas for Ramjade to go after,.... hehe,...

Sounds like Astrea bonds to me, but in the form of equities rather than debt securities.
