nope. because the activation just to help you get past the setup screen, so that it wont show region error. you wont be able to find the ECG app on your MY apple watch

no need, just go to Apple Watch App > Mobile/Cellular Data > Set up plan

can from SG (and activate there) also .. I would recommend those on a budget to get a Series 4 GPS (or cellular) from SG if they really want their bang for bucks. After my usage of two weeks, Always On Display On and Off have a big difference in battery life. So I would say, 2nd hand Series 4 (GPS or GPS+Cellular) SG set would be the best bang for bucks right now.

if you buy from ECG-enabled country, you will see the ECG app in your watch, this is the main difference between ECG-enabled and non-ECG watches.

After you set up the Apple Watch, you go to the ECG app, it'll prompt for activation, this is where the app do all the checkings.. so for first activation, you need to be physically in the ECG-enabled country (SG, US, etc..). After successful activation, a "flag" will be saved in your iCloud ID Health Data. So the next time you reset your watch or whatever, you will just skip the activation screen for ECG when you restore the Watch's data.

bought from Apple Online you mean? your device will end with MY, so it is MY set..

for the first question, no. Because when you want to pair with your phone, you need to reset the watch. So there's no way to keep the ECG activated.

second question, can't answer you, unless got somebody here with US set tried for you.

mm.. interesting.. change apple ID but still on the same phone that paired with the watch, can give this a try, logically as long as the watch is not reset, should work?

er.. if you do like that, definitely wont work. To re-pair your apple watch, you either need to:
1) Unpair from his iPhone - this will reset the watch as well
2) Reset the Apple Watch - this will have activation lock once you try to pair with your phone

as long as the watch reset, then ECG needs to be reactivated when setting up, because it checks your Apple ID for the activation flag.

As of today, only DiGi offer the package that works with Apple Watch LTE

your only option is to sign in your Dad's Apple ID on your phone, pair the watch, open ECG app and activate it. Then when you come back to malaysia, reset the watch and pair it with your dad's iphone(which is logged in to the Apple ID you previously used when you pair and activate the watch)

Yes, but you have to make sure you pair your watch and open the ECG app WHILE IN HK/SINGAPORE. After the first activation, the health data will sync with your icloud and next time you reset your watch(unpair/pair), the activation flag will be loaded from your iCloud Health data, so you don't need to be in HK/Singapore.

I think the implementation worldwide is the same for Apple Watch Cellular connectivity, meaning it will be the same number as your current plan, and you are just paying a small fee to enable that plan to be shared on your Apple Watch

for me, it's a good-to-have feature if you have the budget. I run/jog everyday, so i am happy that I dont have to bring my phone out when I go exercise but anything urgent my family still can reach me. Also, if in the case of emergency, while you're away from your phone, having cellular version also helps in that your watch will be able to call SOS and SMS your emergency contact.

tl;dr, not a must-have, more a good-to-have, budget dependent decision.

LTE signal definitely weaker than phone due to size constraint (tested when going toilet, compare signal bar only ). But for my running/jogging route, no issue for calls/notifications/smses.. like I said, it's a 'good-to-have', not a 'die-die-must-have' feature =)

EDIT: so far I have not experienced call drop tho.. so maybe some fringe area may experience ? try using phone at the same area and see ..

just tested, if your iPhone(at home, connected to wifi/data) get notification, your watch will get notification as well.

if your iPhone is in airplane mode, so your phone will not get notification, your watch will not get notification as well.

the above sstatement is for whatsapp only, not sure if every app also same behaviour or not.
