Hi chaps.
Are dividends from China stocks listed on the HK stock exchange subject to with holding taxes?

Thanks

Not for HK shares

But Chinese companies listed in HK (H shares) has 10% witholding IIRC.

I am wondering if the dividend published is net or gross? I would presume it is gross number subject to 10% with holding tax deduction.

I would guess it's gross like other markets.

No one cares about HK/China anymore? 😂

March seemed to be the low and the market has been trending upwards (not in a straightline tho).

My fav China benchmark, the HSCE index is up 24% since the mid March lows.

Still paying a close watch and fully vested.

But my interest has been more on services, travel and leisure lately.

China market and its growing consumer class along with their international expansion ambition is a big macro themed bet that will continue to be part of my portfolio for many years still.

It is slowly rising no doubt. Recently bought China ETF is rising slowly and steady. For my UT, due to 'time lag' it is reflected later always.

Since I am not Msian I am expressing my view as foreign investor. The CLOB saga (https://www.singaporememory.sg/contents/SMA-90d7ef4e-60e8-41dc-8598-35b268e0ab4d) previously left a very deep hurt in Sporean investors last time. Anyway you are not wrong, Msian ppl should support their own Bursa shares ?

I, myself, play only in my local market. Yes, of course, there are issues (but let's be honest, every country/stock exchange got their own issues) but everything that matters me, is understanding my risk and I am comfortable where I am. I understand the limitations and hope to improve my risk assessment of my hunting ground. That's it. Short and simple.

CLOB? Heard about the many burnt fingers but how different is it from the bunch of Chinese stocks listed in Yankee town but facing delisting issues due to political conflicts?

Because Msia and Spore share a super close relationship so thinking in terms of business like in this case stock trade it will benefit each other. Some have to sell dirt cheap to Msia businessmen to offload their CLOB shares at super loss!

As for Chinese stocks in US exchanges yes that is why since I enter US exchanges I never hold a single China stock I also very scared suka suka delist. But I think in US suka suka still need some official process not like today announce tomorrow suspend trading and delist? Hmmm....

.. and isn't this what they call market risk? wink.gif

There is no market which has no market risk and is always best we understand the risk ourselves.

CLOB. Won't and cannot comment more. Cause I know nothing more than what I just commented.

Nothing against Malaysia market. I still invest in it, despite "fraud busters" being kicked out of Bukit Kiara 😂

But I also invest in foreign markets . For foreign markets, I prefer to invest in index using Exchange Traded Funds. HK China H shares is one market that I follow/invest in.

I know you are not interested in indices, so I won't bore you.

They just did it for Russian stocks cross listed in US and European exchanges. Even worse, they block interest payments of Russian bonds payable to International investors (incl US investors), even when Russia is able and willing to pay.

All govts can do nasty things to ppl.

Yes indeed. Even in FSM (mutual fund) which is always lagging indicator, Best Performance for 1 month top funds all are China funds. My other US listed China ETF which I bought recently is showing small little green. Yes I still prefer ETF,mutual fund (basket of stocks) over individual stock for China as I am still worried of it's mood swing.
