Get the Sony 5.1 with TOSLINK input (not sure about the model)

TOSLINK? Another name for digital input? Is it in par with the Z-5500? I've never actually read anyone that recommends Sony speakers though...

I forgot to mention, I will be using the system with my laptop-- Not sure if there are any special connectors required in this case? Usually just plug in the 3.5mm jack and good to go already right? Also, how much is the Edifier R501 market price? Because I tend to favour Altec Lansing sound more than most other brands, but reviews online about the Altec Lansing VS3251 seem to say it sounds better for games than for music listening. Is it?

well maybe altec has boomy bass. but, i like the fact that Edifier R501 has 8" sub, which physically does not limit it performing in larger room. i used to setup my R501 in my small room, when i move it to living room, the bass is sufficient to fill the living room. i doubt altec 3251 can do that.

about the altec vs edifier, it really depends on the usage and it is subjective to ears. im not sure about price but it should be around 400.

as for the laptop, your laptop must support 5.1 analog (like those with dolby home theater logo), or otherwise u gonna have to buy external soundcard.

i am using my z-5500D with my PC and my PS3. Love the quality output.

Yea, very tempted to get it already. But Z-5500 had been out for quite several years also... though if there's any newer better models out there.

Yea now less stock already but its still one of the best pc speakers. Somemore have build in decoder. Mine already 4 years old

hi, can someone recommend me a good speaker ..my first choice is Logitech Z-4 n 2nd choice is divoom xforce-3..budget is below RM255...should i get logitech or altec lansing speaker or divoom??...i dunt know how to pick nice speaker...help me

aww..i cant ..it very far away from my house..n i cant take holiday cz SPM just around the corner..took 50minutes on plane though.....hehe

and PC fair is coming, although u hardly can audit when @ pc fair, but if u know which model u wan, can bargain for lower price at that time...

im from kelantan... ...u got the point there...gonna go audit by myself but i need some tips to choose for good speaker...i cant trust my ears much...cz almost deaf from listening to ipod everyday.....dunno which brand are good..i only know that sonic gear is not good...n my budget is lower, it is RM280(there it go...i raise abit the budget) cz i wan 2 change all my pc peripheral..

what u can do is, choose 1 or 2 of ur favorite song, the song contain clear vocal and some bass, then download into ur ipod or handphone, then go there play and audit each of the speaker that u target, listen around 2 or 3 times to each set, slowly adjust treble and bass to find that sweet spot (not G spot), then u decide which is nicest to u... (but i dunno they allowed u play ur own song or not), if not, u hav to use ur own "skills" to audit using theirs songs.

sonic gear so so only, my divoom voom2 better than a lot sonic gear models which much more expensive, i was at that time when i auditing...

if edifier, i suggest u go for S series, but RM400++... for M series with RM200++, u go audit, cant comment much if u read my comment at other topic...

altec lansing, err, really cut cost as a lot of ppl said, vocal and bass not so nice if compare to last time, unless u go for their high end stuff...

RM280 budget for speaker is still low, u will get what u pay for, dun expect too high, skip those expensive model, later u get poison only...

if u hav RM500++ to burn, got a lot can target, creative T3, aego and etc etc...

I owned Edifier M3400 and really loving it,

now im try to get 5.1 set to watch HD movies

I bougt some cheapo logitech 2.0, and a sonic gear cheapo morro to make 5.1

but whichever I choose to be the center speaker (cheapo line up), it will sound funny, like handphone sound,

how to solve the center speaker sound?

do I need to get me 5.1 speaker?

I see Sonic Gear enzo 4000, its still on my budget,

but I doubt the sound. I tested many SG speakers, it always dissapoint me

can I use enzo and solve the problem?

I am into audio, got couple of hi end headsets and 'on par' portable amp

my real problem is to get a descent center speaker... and get 5.1 or 7.1

The way u describe its very confusing.

So total how many speakers u have? 2.0 logitech speakres? and 2.1 Edifier M3400 ?

So your setup now is 2.0 + 2.1 = 4.1 ? then u wan get a centre speaker? and make it 5.1?

The only way to get 5.1 is a 5 speaker setup.
Left, Center, Right, Rear, left ,Rear, Right

and it comes with 3 cables for analog , Green, Orange and Black.

Then i suggest you get a good sound card that capable to decodes Dolby Digital or bla bla. Then after that is the audio source of movie? Game? Music that must have 5 channel audio.

Does your sound card supports 5.1 surround?

my soundcard support 7.1 (audigy 2),
I have 7 pieces. edifier(front)2.1, logitech(rear)2.0, sonic gear(center)2.0<-- become left channel only since it is set as center.
i use vlc and watching transformers2 1080p which comes with 5.1 audio support

now the center speaker sounds funny, sounded like handphone put inside tin biskut.
how to settle the problem,

does enzo 4000 sound is acceptable?
or any other way to get center channel sounds better

your setup is really messed up. if u put sonic gear morro as a center channel, it will also act as a subwoofer channel, thus it would be badly distorted on the other end. if u want surround sound then i suggest get a real 5.1 or 7.1 speakers. at least it would sound properly.

have u try swap any of the other speakers as center? Your setup is a mess.

If u check each speaker spec Side speakers, Rear speakers and centre speaker have different specification. If u mix with like tat it wont sound as good for those complete 5.1 set.

I give u an example my z-5500D have u seen its centre speaker? its louder and design different angle because for its audio for voice. Side speakers and rear are not for voice but creation of the surround.
