Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place to ask. I am planning to buy a 5.1 channel speaker system. However, as i know the sound card needs to be 5.1 compatible(like support 'multi-channel'?), but my ThinkPad R61i comes with an integrated sound card(the driver is SoundMax). Can anyone guide me as how to find out if my sound card can support 5.1 channel? I know little about speaker system. Thanks. smile.gif

just make sure there is more around 4-5 output plugs or optical out from the soundcard

There are only 2 outputs, green for headphone and red for microphone, so i assume it cannot work with 5.1 ch without the use of adapter?

Btw, i now think of giving up 5.1 ch and choose 2.1 instead, less hassle and cheaper.

Hey ppl, I'm using a laptop but the built-in speakers whispers at best. I'm looking for a set of good speakers to put in my room. Uses it mainly for music, sometimes movie. Good, clear sound would be good. Better if it has built in bluetooth, but not a must. Budget around RM300-500. Anything good you guys would recommend? I still love my good ol' ATP 3, but the wires got problem after it got bitten by my rabbit...

Is the Edifier s330 good with treble/mid tones and high tones? I just tried out the Altec Lansing VS2421 and the sound quality is quite bad. The midtones and high tones sounds really crappy contrary to all the good reviews it has been getting as a budget 2.1 speaker.

Hey, thanks for your recommendation. Just bought the Edifier S330 yesterday. Bought it from Low Yat for RM430, from the All It(if i'm not wrong). The guy say I can change the cable connecting the speakers with a better one for even better sound. Anyone know what to do about it?

u can change the cable that connect the satelites to a better quality one,by default the bundle one oredi consider as decent.but if u wan to change it to higher quality cable oso can since it is 'clip' type, not fixed.u can go to audio shop or HI-FI shop to search for those cable, usually count in RM per meter depend on quality.U jus bought the speaker ,suggest u no nid to care about the cable first, sit down and enjoy for a period first,u can change the cable anytime,no nid so rush biggrin.gif

p/s: RM430 oredi ? shocking.gif

Edifier s330 better in my opinion,i tested Z4 oso.not a bad speaker, but lose if compare with S330. The satelites of Z4 lose S330.

Yeah, it was RM399 last month, but it's RM430 now. Darn... but its worth it. The volume tuner very good quality too hahaha! I like the fact that is doesn't use the usual desktop speaker cable. At least it has options to improve next time. Interesting discovery, this Edifier.

hmm,MX5021 is around 550+/-,it is a good speaker, worth to buy.of course if wan to compare the clarity it will lose to edifier a bit.
edifier dun have 2.1 in this price range ,only S330 at RM400+/-,
S530D at RM700+/-

M3200 has higher power compare to M1350,M1350 is entry level speaker, suggest u get M3200.

S330's satelites clearer than Mx5021,the sound it produce will more ears pleasent, but if u wan heavy bass ,Mx5021 win.
i know u sure will ask is that S330's bass not good? biggrin.gif the answer is:
it is good enough for shaking ur room, but if u wan the thumping 'feel' ,MX5021 will better.
u decide which u wan biggrin.gif take S330 save u more than RM100.
