just got mine few weeks ago. 1 month trial for free, they offered me via phone call.

if i pass 30 days trial period without abt dissatisfaction they will consider id agree to sign up for 2 year contract, and auto terminate my streamyx.

the router given is Huawei B618 (65d), a 4G router capable of 600Mbps downstream and 100Mbps upstream
this router also capable of dual band wifi too, both 2.4ghz and 5ghz.

packed with 2x gigabit LAN port (1 for LAN another is for WAN),
1x usb port for file sharing,
2x ts9 port for external outdoor 4G antenna
the unifi sim is already inserted in the sim slot, with a sticker seal (to avoid tampering maybe?)

==== UniFi Air ====

the speedtest seems good, around 20mbit+ down, around 3~8mbit up,

the ping however seems not so stable. sometimes 40ms+, sometimes spike 100ms+, thats what to be expected from 4G LTE right?

definitely no problem for streaming 1080p on youtube/netflix, not quite 4K ready though. online gaming is also great, dota 2, cs go, pubg etc..

compared to my current 8mb streamyx, 7.8mbit down, 0.5mbit up. ping around 40ms+, its definitely a good bargain.

my concern is, is it reliable to replace my streamyx? im more confident with streamyx since it is wired based, while unifi air is based on 4G LTE, may prone to congestions issue ( i think )

apart for relying on wireless 4G LTE, unifi air is undeniably offer alot of advantage, especially with upload speed is at least 10x higher compared to streamyx,

=== Pricing ===

The monthly fee for UniFi Air is RM 79 ( RM 83.70 inc tax )

While for 8mb Streamyx, monthly fee is RM 130 ( RM 137.80 inc tax )

** the price was originally for 4mb streamyx, but i got upgrade to 8mb during the turbo upgrade campaign for the same price **

/// update ///

starting from september, streamyx customer will be migrated tu unifi lite,
utilising the same dsl technology and speed, at lower price, which is RM 69 per month.

source : http://cloud.email.unifi.com.my/litehttp://cloud.email.unifi.com.my/lite

do you think i should stay on streamyx at lower price (RM 69 starting from september) ? or just go for unifi air? (RM 79 with 2 years contract)

ill consider ur suggestion.. however the speed is so tempting.. despite the price cut..

20mb vs 8mb is quite a huge difference to me. plus the upload speed quite helpful too at most time. i dont game quite much lately due to work constraints. so the latency not much an issue to me.

im looking to stick w unifi air if they willing to asign me a public ip for my cctv. u think it is possible?

their live chat support said it is possible.. but i always got hung up cos no response from them after that. maybe they got confused w unifi air and unifi fibre. ill keep trying again next week.

if no public ip, maybe ill stick to streamyx.

ts if public ip is provided (you said gaming quite ok) then its quite a gd deal imo

cld you check if the huawei b618 provided is simlocked oso? tks
*
sad news. just contacted them. confirmed it is more or less same as unifi mobile. so no public ip for me. cctv and home server wont work with unifi air.

Does Unifi Air also provides voice service with landline-like number such as 03-21814779?

If yes, then the service may be worth it.
*
nope. unfortunately unifi air doesnt came with landline number. interesting fact, the b618 huawei modem does have rj11 port for phone like we use at homelone.

i tried to connect my home phone with it. theres dial tone. but cant dial or call any numbers. lol. since the unifi air also came withsimcards, theres number assigned to it as well. my logical thoughts, calling the number will ring the phone. unfortunately it doesnt as well. laugh.gif

thanks for sharing , this alone, i will not get their stupid unifi air, need cctv usage and need gaming use, wtf higher speed for if cant even use your line fully. so stupid la. guess forever stuck at 8mbps shit line for me.  vmad.gif  bangwall.gif

did u need to pay for the homeline? rm26?
*
unfortunately, the home line apparently not offered with unifi air. if you opt to retain ur phone line (from curr streamyx), you will need to pay the additional rental fee, around rm26 if not mistaken.

Nice.. Stable speed so far?
*
for latency, its hard to say it stable. but if youre gamer, you can pretty much feels the delay. cant really trust the ping read tho cos even low reading 50ms, i can still experience the delay by little bit.

for speed, most of the time, it can reach 20mbps and above. no more than 30mbps for sure. however there are times that itll slows down.

but then for the price (rm79/month), if you dont really mind the "little bit" of inconsistency, why not thumbup.gif

Well, unifi air is a broadband sim not mobile sim eventhough it uses the same micro/nano sim
Broadband sims are NOT designed to be able to call or to be called directly
*
yes. i tried connect a phone set to the rj11 jack on the router. no calls can be made neither receiving.

QUOTE(joshhd @ Aug 25 2019, 04:57 PM)
Is the Unifi Air's SIM card "phone number" begins with the prefix "015-xxxxxxx"?

As what I know, 015 prefix are only for wireless broadband use, and can't be used for making and receiving regular mobile calls. It applies to all telcos.
*
its 010-xxxxxxx i did try to call the number, cant go thru, it said number is not in service.

unifi air available ady meh? i asked local TM point outlet, they also dunno..
*
its not available yet to public or new customer.

this is just one of their strategy to cope with unifi fibre demand among streamyx user... and apparently not all streamyx user get the offer,
i dont think consistency in paying bills is one of the criteria they choose. it just plain random it seems to me. as me myself nvr pay on time, maybe few days after due.. haha laugh.gif

it is actually using the same 4G lte tdd network , previously known as "webe" (or p1 perhaps, before rebrand) so the speed, depending on the area.

my area for example, it is usable, by usable i mean, for streaming definitely no problem as the speed can reach up to 30mbit/s (averagely 20mbit/s). but for gaming, id would definitely against it, as the latency/ping quite unstable. other than that, if you have home server/or cctv that require public ip, it definitely wont work. they wont provide public ip for you (confirmed my self by call and live chat).

in the end, i return my unit. and stay for streamyx. as it seems more reliable to me, free from 24 months contract, wait till fibre port are available. thumbsup.gif

pass customer like a ball here and there. great job.

+ Does anyone know Unifi Air support port forwading???? i have set port forwading but nothing was happened
*
its better if you give them a call at 100, imo their live chat staff seems to be clueless which section are this unifi air assigned to since this is their new 'offerings' , even my local tm point doesnt seems to know much about unifi air.

sorry to inform you that port forward doesnt work with unifi air. its because the classify this as unifi mobile. so you wont get accessible public ip for incoming port. sweat.gif

you can check ur public ip on https://ip.cn then compare it to ip that assigned to the modem. usually not same. modem will get 10.x.x.x ip. rolleyes.gif

quick question, if only getting the Unifi Air Sim Card, i have to pay RM79, correct?
OR should i just try with #bebas prepaid?

feedback appreciated.
*
for sim card only, you need to pay upfront, RM 100 upfront if not mistaken. no contract. can terminate freely. if with modem, 2 years contract.
speed is around 20mbit/s, but depends on area too. some might can get higher speed by band locking.

for bebas prepaid, speed is capped at somewhere 8mbit/s. with bebas weekly plan, RM 20.

Maxis is using TM fibres backbone,  so technically,  there are no different between maxis and unifi. Only difference is when u encounter problem, u need to wait for both parties to fix for u which may caused further delay .
*
actually, yes and no.

yes, they are using tm fibre backbone.

no, i don't think the network routing are same.

yes, if any problem regarding fibre, both party need to be involved.
if fibre related, tm fix. if network/account related, maxis fix. that's how it goes i guess.

Also interested to know

i actually have it on hand. just had no time o test it yet sweat.gif

the tplink mr6400 modem is cat 4 (max 150mb)

compared to huawei b618 which is cat11 (max 600mb) sweat.gif

the matter that makes me curious is, the visible antenna on mr6400 while b618 is not. perhaps better signal reception?

can tplink lock band?
*
unfortunately no, tplink cant lock the band.

in my area, only band 40 (tdd 2300) seems to be available. so my mr6400 v2 always on band 40 (pls note the hardware version, theres v1 v2 & v3)

QUOTE(joe_black @ Mar 9 2020, 04:21 PM)
Please help to check
*
during off-peak time, say 12 midnight till 9am, speed can reach up to 40mbit, compared to b618, can reach up to 60mbit.

during peak time, mostly day time, speed around 4 ~ 16, quite inconsistent. same as b618.

signal wise, it is comparable to B618-65D. for latency it is more or less as well.

** i guess the speed varies from location to location though, signal strength and congestion etc
** mr6400 only have wireless N, compared to b618 have wireless ac on 5ghz
** speed test all done by smartphone, speed could be better on cable

QUOTE(SleeplessEyes @ Mar 29 2020, 09:48 AM)
Dear kvn4000,
Nothing got to do with your signal.
Its because your modem is connected to a base transceiver station, which is connected and shared with estimated 10-20 users.

Furthermore  now its MCO period, Muyideen cakap tolong duduk rumah diam diam.
Then everyone sits at home, diam diam, use their internet, just as you also.
So this is where the Base Transceiver Station is congested with 20 other users around your area, usually a radius of few KM.

So, no, booster wont help. Even you sit next to the station, wont help.
Another advice? Change DNS. that will help abit. but not drastically.
*
true that. im having the same issue, despite the tower being in sight, less than 500m, the speed is not consistent. definitely congestion issue.

my area, during days, eg 9am - 9pm, speed were below 10mbps,
during night, eg 11pm - 7am, speed can easily reach 20mbps, sometimes up to 60mbps.

i noticed something too, the cell id, if its ending xx034, the speed is slow, but bearable around 3-4mbps, but the ping is ok, if the cell id ending xx031, speed is ok, oing unstable. perhaps it is different tower? maybe, maybe not, cos the tower id seems the same, always 204

overall, compared to my digi infinite 150, unifi air nvr fails me, seldomly buffer on youtube/netflix streaming. online gaming kinda hit and miss. while digi infinite, speed always inconsistent, no matter days or night, sometimes 5mbps, sometimes 30mbps, thats the max ive got so far. ping is nightmare too. not to mention random dc/lost connectivity.

Seems like an unknown model.
If got no budget for a modem, maybe tie for a 24 mths contract to get ZTE MF286C.
Not as good like Huawei B618/B818 in terms of speed and stability but good enough overall.

And my advice, since you said there is no coverage in your area, you may buy a Unifi Bebas SIM for RM10 and redeem the 1GB data and test the speed on your phone.
If it is able to give higher speed more than 10 Mbps and connected to Band 40, you may proceed.
The map in TM system is not updated.

Thank you for the fast feedback, man. According to this: https://unifi.com.my/unifi-en/personal/home...s-coverage.page ,
My area is covered, so Unifi Air should also be covered there, right?
*
sorry to interrupt bro, for unifi bebas sim, it seems speed cant get pass 10mbps (perhaps theres speed cap). while unifi air sim can.

i try unifi bebas sim in my area speed about 8mbps+ only.

but then had no choice to ditch my streamyx then get unifi air, surprisingly speed were quite good, up to 50, but inconsistent indeed.

As I said, unifi BEBAS got a speed cap around 8 Mbps plus minus.
If you are able to get max 8 Mbps that means your area got Band 40 because Band 5 rarely can get full 8 Mbps speed.
As long you can get good speeds with unifi Air, finally can leave Streamyx for unifi Air.
*
i see... my area only have band 40, it never seems to lock on band 5 though.

yes i read somewhere about the speed cap on unifi bebas sim somewhere, cant recall where.

speed wise, unifi air faster, while streamyx win on ping/latency wise.

I am a subscriber of Unifi Air. It has been 6 months now. I was told that Unifi fiber is coming to my area in Sept 2020. If I subscribe to Unifi Fiber, would they let me terminate Unifi Air without penalty?

i was about to ask the same thing. hope anyone can give an input about this. cos today i just had my unfii fibre installed.

yes, u are right. contact them via live chat for unifi air (a.k.a unifi mobile / formerly webe) will only give you straight answer about the penalty need to be paid. est rm 1500+ rclxub.gif

already ctc them by twitter so they escalate and open a report. now awaiting their decision. i believe their twitter is handled by the correct department ™ not unifi mobile/air team.

ill need to return the modem ofc. and live my life with my longly dreamed fibre internet innocent.gif

Possibly no because the stupid unifi Air and unifi Fibre is operating like a different company.
I already asked them once, and they said might be impossible to terminate the contract.
The only way is to pay penalty to terminate contract.
That is why I opt for no contract and bought a B818 by myself.
*
well.. im aware of that 24 mnths contract, but the cs at tm point and tm staff that called me did said, once fibre is available, we can switch and terminate. cos it considered an upgrade. hmm.gif

hope they will ease the process for me. otherwise skmm is the only way to go if unsolved. nod.gif
