SLRcom With the prices that lenovo offers, its better to max the RAM, I took 16GB RAM, but another fellow member here took the same model and maxed the RAM to 32GB, probably only difference in price was RM200 for that RAM upgrade. If you check Lazada, 16GB RAM is selling for RM300 atleast.
*
I think onboard 16GB is future proof enough.

Just plug in another 8GB stick to run dual channel for the time been, while in far future if needed can source for 16GB stick when the price really comes down.

One perks of E495/595 is their RAM are not soldered if I not mistaken. That way you can change or upgrade as you desired.

But not Sata. Inside is SSD, the drive is Curcial 500gb Ssd.
But I can’t open the back case, come with sticker sealed for void warranty.
*
There’s both NVME and SATA SSD. In this case I bet it’s SATA, as NVME interface SSD usually speed over 1k.

X395 is back with RM1 for 3 years warranty, I think after configure can get decent specs at about 3.2k.

Damn! I just saw Malaysia price and now ThinkPad E595 is RM3,361.18 starting price. Just last week I saw it around RM2300. That's why need to be aware of these price differences by Lenovo. You buy on wrong day and timing is literally RM1000 difference in savings.

Wait for next sale or find someone with education email.

Lenovo play around with the base price from day to another, best is to monitor beforehand and know the lowest/average price, then pull the trigger when there’s real sale/deal.

If you have Citibank cards, end of this month should have another sale for it.

I’ve been monitoring E495/595 since the start of this thread. The lowest it can go is bout RM2.1k (discounted) base specs. Now you go check the price got markup another 1k, LOL. I will wait for this weekend or next then see. Worst come to worst, there’s student price for 2.3k anytime now, better than nothing.

If you don’t want/need to max up all specs, current price is quite competitive enough.

Lenovo adjust their base price from day to day. Thus the % off is quite dubious. You need to know the specs you want and calculate the final price of it.

can save few hundred bucks too. since lenovo said last 3 days got promo
*
No, you didn’t get my point.

The base price of the laptop is changing from one day to another. For example, today you see it’s 2k, but tomorrow it may be 3k or 4k.

Take X395 for example, if you just want a basic specs model without maxing everything, the price available now is actually bout the same as the one with 45% off. You can compare with the one in TS’ first post.

Oh now change to WEEKEND
*
Yes, surprisingly this weekend all their models are on markup rate, except for L340 (15) which has a unique code for that particular model only still on a good sale price...

Next week is the merdeka week itself. I hope they will give us some sincere offers then.

L definitely better but E is like economy or if you're on a budget. I'd go with E personally mainly because of price. E590 (intel) currently cheaper than E595 (amd), intel ofcourse the better choice.

Also you need to know the Malaysia Lenovo site max screen for E laptop is 250 nits brightness, so if you want brighter than that, better opt for different series.

I'd also max the RAM and change the HDD to SSD.
*
Actually this time round E595 is a better performer than E590.

According to notebookcheck, the Ryzen APU provide a great balance between thermal and performance, while intel variant is subjected to greater throttle.

Also, the current E495/595 markup is quite ridiculous, >1k higher than one week ago. I checked the educational deals page, it’s price is still at 2.3k. I reckon they will lower down the price again not long from now, or maybe they’re focusing on 10th gen Intel refresh at the moment.

Alright. Thanks for the clarification. I don't mind AMD but if Intel is cheaper than its a no brainer.
To Setabaks bring Apple only can show off, if not Apple then low keras.  laugh.gif
E590 vs E595 which on would you take? But like kuci_mayong said, E590 is cheaper. So should be E590.
Which one is better than yours? T590?

Rm3168 Vs Rm2379. I will go for the E590. Do you think Citibank deals would apply for the E590?
*
This is what I mean. E495 and E595 price at their educator page.

user posted image

Just last week still the price at normal page is about the same (in fact it’s lower than educator page as the discount multiplier is 18% instead of 15% you saw above).

For some reasons they decided to markup ridiculously almost RM1k from the normal price. I think they probably are planning for something. It made no sense for E-series thinkpad to cost >3k for base specs.

Lastly, back on E590 vs E595. The base model E590 is without discrete GPU (I lived 2 years solely on the intel UHD620, and mang I’m telling myself my next PC must have some GPU even if it’s weak, as long as more powerful than Intel UHD... After adding discrete GPU, the price adding up quickly. E595 (at RM2.3k) is still the smarter deal.

P/S: did I mentioned that currently E495 & E595 (& X395) has the perks of RM1 for 3 years pro warranty while their intel cousins don’t have?

I’ve a student email. I’m not too sure if they will need some form of authentication as I’ve yet making a purchase with them before.

Now here’s another interesting story. T495 at educator page is far worse & terrible deal than at normal page (with 26% NIGHT code and base specs at RM2.2k).

I got back home around 4am, cannot tahan straight open the box.
The build so sturdy, just the right amount of heft to it, the keyboard so good, the screen is very nice for ips display.
SSD no compromise, 3.5k read, 3k write.
*
Yours are 395 or 495?

I’m inclined to get at 395 but I can’t through the facts that it’s top specs only have 16GB of soldered memory, no more expansion or easy repair in future.

the ugreen 65w is 300g....

You’re powering a laptop at 65W. It’s safer to be bulky than pushing the physical limit.

P/s: I happen to have a scale with me and I weighted it, it’s actually under 200g (193 as per weighted).

On Sunday late night, the NIGHT code and price is back. But on Monday, it’s not there anymore.

I didn’t get to check late night just now, but at 12am+ it isn’t available. May be they are adjusting for the RM1 deal or tomorrow’s Citibank deal, let’s wait and see what can they offer.

My T495 feels good, if you have T430, it feels like that but more smoother because they mix more plastic and glass fiber (but durability should be same as magnesium body). It also smudges a lot. So far no paint coming off.

x395 bottom is magnesium but screen part is plastic (so i guess that's why you feel its plastic on top).

I am not too sure which has better overall built though, hope you can update us here on this part. Some users on reddit say T495 is better build quality.

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/...5t495s_vs_x395/

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/..._case_material/

https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/...o_much_cheaper/

From PSREF spec sheet-

T495 case material:
Display cover: PPS / 50% GF;
Bottom: PA / 50% GF

X395 case material:
Display cover: PPS/GF;
Bottom: Magnesium/Aluminum
*
But talk about the base case construction, I would prefer the “insert” style of X395 & T495s over the “cap in” style of T495. There’s review commending on the difficulty in disassemble and reassemble the back case of T495.

Whoever get the X395 can able to upgrade for SSD or WWAN card only. The rest nothing can touch.
For T495 at least you can manage to get Ram upgrade.
*
Long term device management like repaste the thermal paste and fan cleaning is a factor too.

But again with 3 years Pro Warranty, may be can ask Lenovo to maintain it for us?
