Benchmarks:(Source:XDA)

As a gaming phone, the ASUS ROG Phone II must be able to tackle the most performance-intensive games on Google Play (a list of which can be seen on our recent Honor 20 gaming review). ASUS shared some initial benchmarks with us, and the results are certainly impressive. In 3DMark’s Sling Shot Extreme and Sling Shot Extreme Unlimited (both based on OpenGL ES 3.1), the ROG Phone II scored 6253 and 6939 respectively while the closest competitor, the OnePlus 7 Pro, scored 5579 and 6184 respectively. In CPU Throttling Test, the ROG Phone ran for 30 minutes at the maximum frequency (2.96GHz) with no throttling while the Exynos 9820 and Snapdragon 855 Samsung Galaxy S10+ and OnePlus 7 Pro all exhibited varying degrees of CPU throttling (27%, 17%, and 11% respectively.) Lastly, using GameBench, ASUS says the ROG Phone II maintained 98% fps stability in PUBG Mobile while throwing smoke grenades and Molotov cocktails for 5 minutes in the game’s training mode. In comparison, the OnePlus 7 Pro, Exynos S10+, and Snapdragon S10+ maintained 95%, 85%, and 81% fps stability respectively.

The Chinese model goes on sale July 23rd while the worldwide model will be available in the first week of September with a matte black back.

Update 1: Taiwanese Pricing Leaked

According to Taiwanese publication Sogi, the ASUS ROG Phone II (12GB RAM/512GB storage) is priced at NTD 26,990 (~$870). It will go on sale in the country starting August 1st. If purchased between August 1st and August 14th, ASUS will throw in the ROG Kunai Gamepad (valued at NTD 3,990 or ~$129) for free. Sogi also reports that the TwinView Dock II costs NTD 6,990 (~$225), the ROG Lighting Armor Case costs NTD 1,490 (~$48), the Mobile Desktop Dock costs NTD 4,990 (~$161), the WiGig Display Dock Plus costs NTD 7,990 (~$257), and the Pro Dock costs NTD 2,990 (~$96)

For Malaysia, we are told that Asus will be bringing two variants and both of them will come with 12GB of RAM. The 512GB storage version is said to be priced at RM3,XXX while the larger 1TB option is going for RM4,XXX. Obviously, it is more expensive than the Tencent Games edition from China.

As a comparison, the first-gen ROG Phone was priced at RM3,499 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version and RM3,999 for the 8GB RAM + 512GB storage model. Assuming that the 512GB version is priced at RM3,999, this is still quite a bargain considering it has a 120Hz AMOLED display, a faster 2.96GHz Snapdragon 855+ processor and it packs a huge 6,000mAH battery. According to DirectD, the official price will be revealed sometime next week and customers can book by placing a RM300 deposit.

They purposely did that to avoid any accident touch at both bottom and upper screen. Plus they want to make sure the phone feels grippy while gaming in landscape mode.

Ppl who actually not a gamer can buy this phone too. They provide 2-OS to choose at the beginning whetther the gaming asus OS or the stock android os like zenfone 6 (for ppl who r not in gaming)

I must say asus step into the game really bring new flavours to the saturated smartphone market. Good to see a manufacturer which focuses to give the best hardware to customer..

Awesome phone. The most beauty gaming phone so far. I can accept it is not full screen as the extra bar is very little and overall still look freaking awesome.

Wished it get release in reasonable price.

Money ready, can’t wait, wonder which accessories the best to play pubg, can’t decide yet 🤤

Considering we haven't even see the Zenfone 6 here, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this though...

Both Z6 & ROG2 will be launched simultaneously to save marketing cost...

Hypothesis : Merdeka Sales... Must be before iPhone 11 announcement... Else, ppl will just get last year iPhone X-Mas...

There is also the issue of a Note 10 to contend with though. That'll probably launch here around Merdeka time too

Guess I'll stay put with my XR & Pixel 3aXL combo until the price settled down first before deciding what's next

tried rog1 before. but not getting the gamer-ish feeling.but the specs are killer.with new battery capacity.hope its going for 2-3 days good with minimum gaming.

my option now is between Note10+ and Rog2 for next phone replacing a combo of s8 and ipad2.

Hopefully the phone is good enough for long reading (which I used to do ipad2) and responsive enough for games (may be I have to renew my selection of games).

So the 120hz Amoled screen hopefully will deliver

Please take note that not all games support 90 and 120 Hz rates...as a start, games developed by Tencent should support at least 90Hz.

For those who r planning for huge upgrade especially from ios user, just wait another couple of months until 2020 to see the iphone 12 with 120hz panel. There is a rumor from ice universe bout this freaking news

If Mr. Timmy brought 120Hz panel, so there'll be valid reason to sell at RM6,666.66 for 64GB iPhone 11s/12... LOL...

The lowest spec is really attractive, below rm2000.

But it is tencent spec....i wonder what that means

Why not leave the panel but optimise 60fps games to.have sustain performance + less heat + less power consumption

But I have to admit, that 6000mAh battery is very tempting!

well not much issue since i don't hold my phone much unless during gaming. but i do admit it is on the very-heavy side, i might test it out before purchasing.

If you play games a lot mean you will be holding powerbank all the time. With this phone, you don't need to bring powerbank. So...choose powerbank or heavy phone? I will go for later any time of the day.

The reason why it is that cheap is because Tencent subsidizes the phone via advertisements (similar method to how Amazon can subsidize flagships via the Prime edition phones)

FYI, this is also the same techniques that Xiaomi employs to make their phones incredibly cheap by showing ads in MIUI (Also might explains while their phones are bootloader unlockable, Xiaomi has deliberately designed the bootloader unlock mechanism to be as cumbersome as possible to deter bootloader unlocking)
