I have been food dieting for more than 10 years. My body fat is 22%.
My age is 31.

My diet is simple. Just eat little food all day especially rice/noodles especially
dinner,I eat very little. (like 2 tablespoon of rice at most)

My bf asked me stop this for 2 weeks, said I m in starvation mode, more difficult to lose fast.
He said after 2 weeks, only start to go back dieting.
Thts more effective in losing fat.

Is it true?

People believe that when you on a calorie deficit too much, your body metabolism will adjust to expend less energy, thus even your calorie intake is low, your calorie output will also lessen over time.

So every once in a while have to eat normally to reset the metabolism.

can say partially true. but there's no point to do so if you gain body fats within this 2 weeks.
sometimes you need to change your diet if you current diet result already stagnant for too long or you can start to exercise.

exercise doesn't mean will see result if you do it wrongly or maybe just the beginning part when you started to exercise.
you also need to change your diet if you want to drop the fats otherwise you need to be more hardcore when you exercise laugh.gif

Install myfitnesspal on your mobile.

Start counting your calories properly.

Not those "I eat 2 spoonful of rice only etc."

1) Find out your TDEE
2) Eat at a calories deficit
3) Watch your body lose its weight

Then you need to build up muscles to burn those fat, coz dieting can only do so much for you.

You've been dieting for >10 years to reduce to 22% body fat. If you decrease your food intake further, it will make you weak, pale and unhealthy.

What is your muscle mass?

I think you should just follow your own way, why listen to someone who controls what you can eat? You only live once.. tongue.gif

Starvation mode occurs when your cortisol level rises, meaning that your body is stressed from dieting too much. Instead of using purely diet, increase your workout intensity to burn more fats. Do it gradually.

No, it is not true, your bf's statement does not make sense .

If he does not agree with you, ask him to consult a dietitian ( people whom have studied 3-4 years of degree ).

As long as your Body Mass Index is more than 18.5(Asians) for your height: you should be fine.

Thin people live longer, I have not seen one person in my entire life whom is aged more than 90 years old and fat.

Of coz you can.
You need more muscles to burn fat.
Don't just focus on loosing fat. A lot ppl make the wrong perceptions and never care about muscles.

While gaining muscles, you still can eat happily and you eat your favorite food. icon_rolleyes.gif

Starvation mode - if in doubt, look up what starvation means first before you are worried about the effect it has on your dieting. Eating at maintenance or slightly lower is not starvation, especially your body still have fat to sustain your caloric needs.

By the way, I think the fact that you have been dieting for 10 years already show you that dieting ALONE is not a sustainable method for the long term. There's only so much calories you can cut each year as your metabolism goes down. You might not enter starvation mode at all, but imagine having to keep eating lesser and lesser every year. If that's OK for you, keep going. Otherwise find ways to increase your BMR.

women at 16-18% bodyfat is already like guys at about 9-12%. you're gonna need to hit the gym hard (especially the weights) and diet needs to be abit more detailed than just merely watching what you eat (tracking calories and macros).

If your gym session is just mere light weight and high rep workouts, very less likely your body will want to dispose the fats.

Exercise and aging.
Describe your exercise in detail,
what activity, how many minutes, how many times in a week

17% body fat for middle age is possible but not the way you are going.
I can recommend a friend who did it. It is not free but will reveal science and evidence on his own body.
If you want to meet up and subscribe to the method, then PM me.

It is sort of true.
People here have a simple mindset thinking that metabolism remains constant regardless of how little/how much we eat. It is in fact dependent on how much we eat.

Truth is the body adapts to how much you take.
You eat 2000 calories a day and you burn 2000 calories a day (no weight gain)

You eat 1500 calories a day and you burn 2000 calories a day and get 500 calories deficit (<--- assumption, calories in calories out theory)
Truth:- Your deficit drops slowly week by week until your daily calories matches your intake. You might lose 3 kg until the body no longer loses weight because the body metabolism has already adapted to it.
