Preferred max weight and min battery life? What games you play?
*
My preferred weight is something below 3.5kg for a 17inch, < 3kg for a 15inch.

Games like the witcher 3, CS and GTA V and final fantasy 10. These is so far what i have under my steam account.

Both size is alright, if budgets allowed then will get 17 inch. Battery does not matter, will plug in ac power most of the time.

Hi currently have a 3-year-old ROG GL552VX
Got crack somewhere from fall, battery not working. Cannot run most newer releases. Windows 10 pun perpetually freezing/not responding for no specific reason.
Don't think I can sell for any decent price.

Need advice: should I upgrade a component (if possible, what?) OR just get whole new laptop?
*
QUOTE(ultralightbing @ Sep 9 2019, 07:06 PM)
Thanks for the response! Considering the damage and faults my existing ROG has now, how much do you think I can get for it?
*
May i know what do you mean by cannot run most newer release? Games you mean?
may i know if this is your laptop model : GL552VX

with GTX950M right?

Are you using HDD / SSD?

No consumer grade laptop is 'durable' FYI

Best colour gamut means more than 72% NTSC?

Fine with up to 2.5kg?

Just give all the options available and I will read up more about them. Btw budget can stretch to 9k MYR.

In order of importance, Screen, specs, durability, portability.
Would be great if it has RJ45 Ethernet port.

1. Budget : 5.5k±0.5k

2. Usage : mainly sketchup( similar to something like autocad. ) , Triple A games , emulating ps3 games , sometimes blender

3.Requirements : 15.6 inch screen (if possible 144hz) , colour accuracy is not a priority but welcomed.Targeting for 8/9th gen i7 CPU + GTX 1660TI or RTX 2060 , 512GB nvme ssd and 16gb of ram .Must have upgradedable ram , dedicated LAN port
Cooling is a big priority, no thermals throttling is expected under CPU and GPU full load
battery life and weight are not within the priority

Currently looking at illegear laguna se , msi GL63 8SD , Dell G5 15
(I think there are other options out there , no time to search sry)

If you want best colour quality possible, here are 2 models with Samsung 4K OLED panel:
Level51 Nova 15
Gigabyte Aero 15 SA AMOLED: thin and light

If you prefer business grade with higher end hardware:
Lenovo Thinkpad P53
Lenovo Thinkpad P1 G2 / X1E G2: thin and light, CPU will throttle to ~25w under CPU+GPU load
Try to find these also: Dell Precision 7540/7530, HP Zbook 15 G5/G6

Must it be 15 inch?

Thank you so much for this list.

For Thinkpad P1/X1 will throttle take place even if plugged in?

Smallest I could go is 14", max 17". Also where is a good place to try these out? Digital Mall?

You're welcome

Yes, due to insufficient cooling

Try out which one?

Mind low sRGB display and non-upgradeable RAM? Any preference on battery life?

What do you mean by 'below thin and light'?

Gigabyte & level 51. I think Lenovo and sell should be quite easy to find.

Are there any work around for the cooling without voiding the warrety?

I don't think Tech Armory has display unit for the AMOLED Aero (need to ask @storm88), for Nova 15 they have display unit but it has 144Hz IPS

Thinkpad models might be hard to be found in stores since they are mostly customized

For X1E / P1, the thermal capacity is limited by the cooling design itself. Even with LM, undervolt and lifting up bottom, I don't think the cooling will become 'good'
