one of the reason that leave nip mark on ur kit is tat the plier itself is not flat and sharp enough! Usually hardware shop one are not flat the space in between the 2 blade has a little curve which would cause nip marks on it!!

so wat if it is RM80, its not like u gonna buy it monthly like gunpla
a tool like dat, buy 1 time only and can use it for years oredi sweat.gif

the better the tools, the easier & better results in your modelings whistling.gif
*
hmmmm but when u have RM80 in hand u will itchy for other NG1/100 and HG kits woh! By the way i used Hobby cutter that cost around RM20-30 onli! Those hardware shop one cannot compare to the one i using but same my one cant compare with the RM80 one!

Would it be better to Paint MG Patlabor Ingrams in Flat or Glossy white? Which finishing did most professionals used on Patlabor Model Kits?
*
haha good question! But this question can onli answer by u urself! Since the kit will be displaying on in ur own shelf so which u prefer? U could always spray it glossy first then if u dun like it just buy a Flat top coat and spray it on the kit!

I know for most gundams i would prefer flat, but the thinig is I've never seen a glossy and flat patlabor so i cannot tell the difference. Most people use flat for Gundams so what about Patlabors? I'm just worried that making it look glossy might make it look abit unrealistic.
*
Ok my preference! I like Glossy on my mecha if i color them metalic! It give me the chogokin feel! If i color aqua type MS i would do Glossy to give the effect of coming out of water! But the other mecha if i dun do any special coloring i will stick to shading and Flat!
So Patlabor for me i would go for shading + flat! Add some smoke effect on it! It would look like great! Just like it came out of a gun battle!

normally u guys mix the paint to create another colour or just straight buy standard colour?
any tips to mix the colour? coz the lacquer paint dry too fast... sweat.gif
use also very little only.. and sometimes hard to get same colour..
*
i like to mixed them up! My fav is Silver color mix with all types of color to make it metalic effect! Or Gun Metal or steel color mixed with black or gray to make it more mechanical like!
Then it is the everybody favourite pearl and white color can mix with wat u like!

QUOTE(chriswoo @ Apr 2 2008, 09:51 PM)
btw  Shading effect can't be done by hand painting unless u are expert on hand painting even me no solution for it

unless u want to try 1 method that i experimenting handpainting with top coat Spray Can to achive this effect of shading.
*
Yup Shading effect is really hard to be done with hand painting! They usually used dry brush to create effect of shading if using hand paint! And u really got to make sure ur paint on the kit is really dried and the brush u using is really dried too! If not.........ur brush will tear off paint from ur model kit instead of adding it on to the kit!
This day ppl do shading effect on kits tat r not paint using weathering marker and sand paper! Quite nice too!

*
AB easier loh! Just spray the primary color on it first then another layer of color onto it! Settle fast and easy no need to do the parts one by one!

U got a bit of effect of Shading but.....overall the whole things just seems too clean and glossy!

QUOTE(darklancer @ Apr 3 2008, 09:09 PM)
chriswoo: u mean top coat to protect the paint izit? this i understand...

zero: top coat n clear same thing rite? wic "shown gundam" r u referring to?
*
Best u just go with Flat Top coat!!! wat they r talking is just some different solution in the thing onli doesnt matter a lot! It is still back to how u control ur dry brush! After dry brush just use some top coat to cover the brush part so as to prevent the paint from getting off (due to ur hand or other foreign material!

Here is a pic of my no AB and paint Zaku! I used dry brush + weathering marker only!

03 unit, mind telling us how did u do tat?
*
wow this is a bit hard to describe! Need to look at picture onli u will understand! All i could said is dry brushing, u squeeze color out of those weathering marker than use a paint brush to absorb those paint than make used a dried cloth to make the brush as dried as possible!
Then used the brush to brush the side of the parts (not the whole thing) u will get those angle effect tat look similar to shadding. U could also applied real touch marker on the panel line then wipe it off with cloth to create effect on panel line area.
Another method is call wat washing??? I also forgot the name! Tat is using the enamel paint i show to paint the whole kit and wipe the paint off the kit to create those effect like being AB!

03 unit, so basically the way of doing weather effect is sumwat d same as shading?
*
shading is usually apply on the curves and the joining part of the armor to bring out the 3D effect!
weathering is a completely different thing, it tends to make the kit look realistic, give u the feeling of the war zone and the dust on the mecha!
If u combine this 2 stuff together u get really good effect!

there are 3 "levels"
500,1000, 1200... these numbers represent the smoothness of the surfacer..
500 is rough, 1000, is smooth, 1200 is very smooth..
usually everyone uses 1000 smile.gif
*
Currently i just used those bottle forms one! I mix them with thinner and spray them on my kit! Cheaper than those can form!

QUOTE(8tvt @ Apr 4 2008, 10:43 AM)
that weathering marker can apply directly to gundam plastic? i mean.. no need to paint first?
how it compare to powder pigment than..
*
can!
powder pigment give u some solid visual effect while the weathering marker give u more like liquid effect and is really good on those armor and metal part!
