Hi All, I got the unifi upgrade many months ago was working fine with full download speed of 800mbps for few months.

Recently I feel video streaming become slow so i test ran speed test speedtest website like speedtest.net & speed.unifibb.com only can get max 400mbps download speed, most of the test result is 300mbps. Ping time is good below 5ms.

I called unifi support, they said i need to replace router and if engage their technician i will charged if not their fault. In fact I already tried several routers which is capable to run gigabit internet. They also told me speedtest.tm.com.my result is most accurate and must use this to test. I run the speedtest from speedtest.tm.net.my, really can get 800mbps download speed.

Any advice from fellow sifus in LYN? notworthy.gif

update: Tech support helped to reset port twice, no improvement. I view netflix sometimes still buffering. youtube also. If continue like this i really consider to downgrade or switch to maxis. But i heard maxis is worse. sweat.gif

Did you tell them that you are using same router that was capable to get 800Mbps after installation?

Otherwise, they are not answering your question. doh.gif

The internet can be slow due to heavy traffic. Remember that the service is best effort, which means if too many concurrent users hogging the backbone line at the same time, there is possibility of slowdown. You can test during less peak time, whenever you think it would be. smile.gif

Another possibility is that hardware degradation hmm.gif

Yeah I already did told them I'm using a better router than the Archer Ac1200 as well. And only used cable to run the test. Also tried both Cat5e and Cat6 cables.

I understand internet can be slow due to heavy traffic, and maybe caused by hardware degradation but with the same hardware i can get my full 800mbps download if run speedtest.tm.net.my but not from other website. sweat.gif

For Netflix, you can view the network statistics during playback by pressing CTRL+ALT+Shift+Q. Kindly post a screenshot of the Netflix network stats.

It depends on the TV. For Sony TV, you just press the i button during playback. For easier testing, it is recommended to use a computer/laptop connected via LAN to know which CDN you are connected to.

It is possible the local CDN is slow at the moment.

Off topic. May I ask, what's the main difference between US Netflix and M'sia Netflix?

I have same problem. I gave up.

Except for the fancy 800 figure, I don't see much difference in performance with 200 Mbps or 300 Mbps or 800 Mbps.

If Unifi have an option for 300 Mbps, I will greatly reduce my package.

Assuming you have a Malaysia Neflix account and you use a VPN, can you access the USA Netflix content?

most smart TV's have non-gigabit port, max 100mbps.

wifi, those with 5ghz, can get 200-300mbps, depending on router.

for netflix and other TV apps, better use wifi.

Yes and that's what VPN for. But not all VPN service supports netflix. ExpressVPN is the best so far.

So its not my problem that unifi suddenly unable to deliver actual 800mbps?

I see. Now I understand more.

You can get 800Mbps testing at speedtest.tm.net.my but not other other speedtest website. Is this correct?

The TM server is nearest to your site and go through switching in TM network only (most likely). Once you are going through many hops like overseas, then it is different story. Downloading from one site also can be different to another site because server could be overloaded. Then in this case Tm not to be blamed.

TM is using Ookla speedtest which I think probably the most famous and widely accepted speed test engine already. Maybe gateway to outside Malaysia is suffering failure?

I want to invest in Asus RT-AC5300 which looks pretty good. If this is TM's problem don't think i change to more powerful router can solve this. As mentioned from tm speedtest website already can reach 800mbps.

As for switching ISP, will Maxis give me hell ? Any Maxis fiber user here can comment and advice? only got two choices for me. either maxis or TM. No other ISP available here.

Tell you what. I have a Asus AC68U and I could only get 300 mbps when I was supposed to get 800 mbps. Cat6 cable.

I complained and a unifi technician came and hook up his own router that is supposed to be inferior to the AC68U and almost 800 mpbs.

So I gave up doing anything else.

Maxis is using TM network.

If the problem is from switching or network outside the country, any ISP also cannot solve, I'd say smile.gif
