Both almost similar but Habitrail is easier to wash than Critter Trail. Coz I have both these cages.

The japanese brand would be WILD. The design overall is the same with Critter Trail... copy cat hahah.
I prefer Habitrail. But then I prefer DIY cages or tanks coz it is better for us to clean and handle, less stressful for our hamsters. |

Mid Valley sells sand bath and dust bath for chinchillas... but more dust baths there. Must always call them up to check stock. Getting from Pet Safari is much better.

Fresh vegies, fruits, insects and protein should be given to hamsters to promote good growth. A staple diet such as Harry Hamster or Prestige will give enough vitamins and also a well rounded diet. Fresh produce helps in building good health and strong immune system.

Wah, so many bear bear..... me got many liao, enough hahahah.... Who you trying to poison with the Sable and Golden ah? QUOTE(zoejehuty @ Sep 14 2007, 02:31 AM) foo, wat u use for the bedding of your hamster, is nice... You have to separate the male quick. Once she wants to give birth soon, she will busy herself with trying to find the best spot to birth and nest. Remove the male so no deaths or complications. Syrians actually cannot live in pairs.... must be single.by the way, if the syrian hamster like suddenly have big tummy than b4, is it pregnant... she stay with another male from start until now. how to determine whether she pregnant or not ? Pregnancy, when you hold the scruff of the neck and hold her up, if her body is pear shape and got a bulge on the tummy, then that is a sign of pregnancy. Foo is right, the gestation period is about 16 days earliest.... some can hold up to 18, some 20 days.... |

QUOTE(zoejehuty @ Sep 15 2007, 03:53 AM) corn cob ar ??? where can i get it, coz normally i go pet shop i cant find it or i didnt notice it. Corn cob quite easy to get in KL. Almost all major petshops have loh. Small small petshops rarely carry. I dunno about Malacca..... maybe harder to find.how old is the bear ar, actually is not mine, is my sis fren one, he jus tumpang put me here as he busy with something. then he said he notice that last week like that her tummy like become big. so though she pregnant lo. then i nvr have female hams that pregnant so i dunno about it lo, but then if tummy suddenly big then might pregnant lo... i use hun way to see it, i not sure whether i see correct or wrong la, but then is similar like wat u said lo... i jus only separate both of them... so wat to do if pregnant and give birth ar, duwan to kacau or touch her, jus give food then can already rite, wait until pups grow big then only can touch rite, if there got pups la... coz i not sure as i not good in hamster compare to gerbils... hehe... Well, what you do is change the bedding now. And don't kacau the tank for 2 weeks. Just kacau for refilling food and water. I would say throw in some mealworms if she eats it lah. Also give some fresh foods like sawi, kangkung, carrots.... If she don't give birth in 2 weeks, then it may not be pregnant, just fat I guess hahahh... |

QUOTE(sogoatticus @ Sep 16 2007, 09:15 PM) i thought the corn cob is under Breeder Celect brand..silly me..i scare they eat the breeder celect..coz look like one of the rabbit food..lol Hahaha... no worries lah. Perfectly safe. I use it for sugar gliders, hedgehogs, geckos, tortoise and snakes.... some of my hamsters are on this while a gerbil gets Healthy Pet bedding.QUOTE(zoejehuty @ Sep 16 2007, 10:14 PM) hmm... i always separate them last 2 days... Better not let anyone kacau the female so she can successfully have healthy babies.... but then that is if got babies lah.now jus monitor it lo... so i jus leave it there with all my other gerbils tanks lo.. i plan to put other place that more silent one but then cant find any... but then the thing is that my sis going to take back the hammie since is hers... jus worrier that she and her housemate all go kacau only... they all keep without getting any info one... haih... |

1.5 years to 3 years, depending on species.... some can go 4 years. This also depends on care and housing.

QUOTE(CityLife @ Sep 16 2007, 11:54 PM) What do they usually died from? Would be nice to know the disease in order to prevent it from happening from healthy one. Well, generally old age. But other deaths can be from the wrong kind of woodshavings, inbreeding, genetic disorders like brain damage or deformity, diabetes, lung infection, kidney failure, liver failure, wet tail is the worst and many others. You can always Google as there is too much to list or buy a book about hamsters.QUOTE(jaswwp @ Sep 17 2007, 12:07 AM) As corn cob moulds fast, I guess its not suitable to use unless the owner cleans it very often snce hamsters pee so much. Corn cob also killed 2 of my mice i think, they both develop breathing problems when I was using it. Yah, the mold from corncob can cause deaths sometimes.... the spores can enter the lungs, cause damage there. We won't really know till 1 day our pet dies or we do an autopsy on it. |

The safest woodshavings would be Aspen wood shavings.... but it is very hard to get here and a bit expensive too. For now, only Delikate is safe.... even now I won't buy Chipsi since the current stock all have a strong pine-like smell.
But then Breeder's Celect and Healthy Pet are so far the best and safest. They would mold... absorb odour and liquid very well, last longer in tanks too. Just not so comfortable for them to sleep if using Breeder's Celect since pelleted and hard.... normally as sleeping material, I would give hay and tissue paper. |

No Rm15 liao.... now Rm25 above I think.... I rarely see Aspen coz no one demanded this.... In Malaysia, all like to find the cheapest bedding they can find, so they will go buy cheap but dangerous beddings..... so no Demand for Aspen, so most shops don't wanna bring in anymore. I remember buying large pack of Aspen for around RM15 to Rm18 only years ago.... too bad now no more.

Corn cob, if you do not change the bedding once a week, it will start to grow mold.... like when you put the bread too long, it got those ugly fuzzy green black fungus grow? That can happen to corn cob.
It is better than woodshavings but why not add a few ringgit and get bedding that is better than corncob? |

QUOTE(gstrapinuse @ Sep 17 2007, 10:49 AM) but i bought a big packet alr how?throw away?any suggestion on which bedding to buy?my hamster died today dunno y..i am so sad..yest still playing cheerfully but today morning die liao..dunno is it bcoz of the corn cob... Well, you won't really know if it is the corn cob that was the cause unless you do an autopsy on your hamster. The corn cob can be used... but you should change the bedding once a week to be safe that no mold grows. I have used before corn cob, never had any death before..... all also ok. Read the 1st page for bedding suggestions by Reanne. She did a review on bedding and we already mention quite a few times on which suitable bedding to use. Read up. QUOTE(nezumitaro @ Sep 17 2007, 10:52 AM) Can. All hamsters can be toilet train. Just take time hahahha.... I got 4 campbell dwarf, they always pee and poo in their sand bath..... 1st day put, they will roll in the sand to groom their fur... then later the week, keep pee inside. It only becomes moldy when wet.Added on September 17, 2007, 11:36 am my firend use cc for more than 3 yrs. nothing bad happen.. QUOTE(sogoatticus @ Sep 17 2007, 02:45 PM) u sure ur dwarf poop in the sand?coz mine only pee in it..but pooping everywhere..mine while sleeping also can poop..crazy hammy.. Yes, pee and poo. The pooping only happens inside once awhile, of course hamsters would poop wherever they like.QUOTE(Jaroque @ Sep 17 2007, 02:52 PM) I would like to ask a noob question... I am curious about why certain hamsters have red eyes and why certain hamsters have normal black eyes? Is red eye'd robo's common or normal? Red eyed robo? No.... there is no such thing yet. Roborovski is still one of the species that is still keeping it's signature wild look.Winter Whites and Robos have no red eyes. Only campbells and Syrians for they have been bred to gain particular colour. The red eye comes from a recessive gene. |

QUOTE(Jaroque @ Sep 17 2007, 06:50 PM) Aik?? I saw in shop got Red eye Hamsters and the person told me its a robo.... It's really small lor compare to the other hamsters he have... Meaning the fella lying? Most petshops have no knowledge. The supplier hands them hamsters, they just take and sell. If you ask them if Syrians must be kept in pairs, they would say "Of course, later no sex no fun, then die lonely" But the true fact, Syrians are happy alone and will fight till injure or death if in groups or pairs. What was the colour of the robo? Small, all dwarf hamsters are small when young. Petshops normally sell young hamsters but when it is older, you will notice the true size. Robos do not have the dorsal stripe on their backs, they can come in only agouti and white-face colour. No other colours available in the world that is for sale in petshops. There is the odd platinum robo but no breeder in Asia would have it since not many people here have the genetic knowledge nor the right robos with the right genes to breed this. Never believe a petshop, some of them just lie for the sake of you buying and they make money out of it. |

QUOTE(Jaroque @ Sep 17 2007, 07:37 PM) Thanks for the info. really appreciate it The normal price for a Robo is about Rm20 to RM25... but at some places, it can go up to RM40. Again, this depends on location. A Syrian can cost RM10, RM20 or Rm48.... all coz of location and also seller. |
