As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Needless to say, tonight’s match against Chelsea is do or die. But looking at the form of all 4 challenging for the last 2 spots, no one seems to want it.

Maybe Spurs think they can win UCL & qualify next season.

Maybe Arsenal & Chelsea thinks they’ll win UEL & qualify.

United have no choice.

Shocking stat: David de Gea has now made more errors directly leading to an opposition goal this season than in the previous five seasons combined.

Fuk the goalkeepr
Fuk the whole team
Same goes for OGS as well, his "niceness" will be his downfall, after the shitshow the team have been showing for the losing streak, and he still seems okay with it

Thanks de gea for his contributions for the past few season. Now he can gtfo together with pogba. Players who don't have the heart to play for the team should just leave.

freaking frustrating to watch. played like winning 1-0. created nothing in second half. only start to be brave at injury time???????

everyone are average. ogs is right, 15 points can get top4 and we grab like 7 point? great.

F**k Pogba... just kick his ass out of old trafford.

De Gea also need to be drop. Clearly lost focus. If he did not sign new contract, swap him with jan oblak.

Base on today game I think we will miss Herrera contribution.

De Gea saved our ass consistently for the past 3-4 years.. he's human, he will make mistakes.. GK on low form should sit on the bench for few matches.. its not like outfield players need more match to get on form.. he is still world's best GK in my book

pogba is always a scapegoat. he should do more though since he always demand salary. but today, whole team is average. dunno players problem or tactical problem (first time i start to suspect ogs tactical game). there's no bravery to att at all. shaw and young always behind the midfield in second half. def / mid can only long pass through the middle and lose ball.

of course chelsea created nothing also. even rudiger shot has no power and i really amazed how ddg able to spilled it.

The depth of our love for Europa football is unspeakable. By the way I know there is a lot of money to be made in UCL but there is also a lot of embarrassment to be faced there as well....so OGS and DDG just wants to save us from the pains.

2 more games left...

Man Utd
- Huddersfield (Away)
- Cardiff (Home)

Chelsea
- Watford (Home)
- Leicester (Away)

Arsenal
- Brighton (Home)
- Burnley (Away)

Based on the fixture above, ours should be less tricky than Chelsea and Arsenal. Not to mention both of them still have EL to play on Thursday (Friday morning our time). If we are not taking our chances, then I've nothing left to say...

Herrera has to stay.
Mata trying his best.
Matic trying but still not at his best.
Scott is not bad for his cameo performance.
Shaw needs to increase his fitness levels, quite obvious pancit 75 mins onwards.
Others can go fly kite for all I care, not United material.

Herrera should be running the show, not pogba. Build a team around him.

Disappointed result, considering all of top 4 rivals just giving away points to pursuit places in Europa League.

Spurs seem the most likely to get top 4, Chelsea havethe most tricky set of games and most likely to fuck up, but us meh.. We have the least chances.

Half the team last night probably thinking of leaving next summer and don't seem too bother.

sux la towards the end. everyone complain him. forgot lvg say my captain must play? but yeah, now maybe half the team worse than old rooney.

De Gea has been a magnet for mistakes in recent weeks, since he misjudged a Granit Xhaka shot on March 10 during a 2-0 Premier League defeat at Arsenal, and this latest one followed error-strewn performances against Barcelona, Everton and Manchester City.

totally forgot ddg also give arsenal a win.

You don't only build a team around goal scorers. You build a team around players who give stability around the team. I can't share the coaching manual, but there's a whole chapter on it in the 2nd level.

Edit
Just to highlight what will happen when you build a team around a goalscorer, look at Chelsea and their building of a team around hazard. It's not as effective.

by your logic, all teams should build a team around their striker or scorer.

you need to build a team around consistency, stability and confidence. scoring goals is only one aspect of it. He does score, assist, not prolific, but he does it but that is also due to his role.

he's not the players kids playing football want to be, not flashy, but he ties def, mid and atk. look at the past few united games, look at the chasm between defense and attack.

QUOTE(bansai @ Apr 29 2019, 12:27 PM)
by your logic, all teams should build a team around their striker or scorer.

you need to build a team around consistency, stability and confidence. scoring goals is only one aspect of it. He does score, assist, not prolific, but he does it but that is also due to his role.

he's not the players kids playing football want to be, not flashy, but he ties def, mid and atk. look at the past few united games, look at the chasm between defense and attack.
*
Nope, you put words in my mouth. Assists are important too.
Unlocking the defense is important too
Heck, defense is important too but you put too much emphasis on leadership which Herrera got a lot of.

Scoring goals is the most important aspect unless you want to just park the bus. No goals, no win.

No point getting on consistency, stability and confidence if you putting it all in one person. Whole team must have those.
Don't tell me that Kompany not playing and City lost confidence, Henderson not playing and Pool lost confidence. shakehead.gif

Before 98 Cantona, After 98 Scholes and Cole/Yorke
But he is an important part of the team.

Nope. SAF built his teams around big personalities, and Roy Keane was certainly a big personality that SAF built the team around during Keane's peak playing career.
Up to you to think otherwise, but there were many opinions similar to mine such as in this article:

very subjective le on the term 'building a team around a player'
usually u build the team around the most talented and best player in your team i.e. ronaldo/messi/hazard.

logically you need to find players to 'build' and complement pogba because he's our most talented player.. but his mind is already in Real or elsewhere and doesn't give a rat shit bout the club..so..that's that

Ah, is Herrara a big personality that can be those people mentioned? brows.gif
And Cantona is not a bigger personality than Keane, Schmeichel not a bigger personality than Keane?
Sorry, I disagree with your opinion about the team build around Keane just because he had a "big" personality.

Yes, logic is that. Not a player who can't get into the national Spain football team.

First you asked to give example on team that was built around somebody who runs a lot, when given then you want to spin about other things pulak.

Ander Herrera - man utd all time best and consistent performer after AF era.

but sadly he will be leaving to PSG in the summer. One of the important role/position in man utd game philosophy.
hope ed woodward and ole will do something to lure big name in to fill the gap or else it gonna be a roller coaster season again.

i think it will be very tough to get players.. we dont have CL to offer.. and on top of that Real, Bayern, Chelsea want to rebuild too.. and other club want to strengthen their current team
if rumors are true that City are looking at Wan Bissaka for Walker backup, i think we probably wont get him..

Why not? Bissaka won't be first team in city with k.walker there.
At utd, can give him first team.

Also, I met Wes brown last Saturday in KL. Awesome smile.gif

what if he's similar to Mahrez.. thinks he can get into 1st team, welcomes the challenge.. he consider that he can improve with that level of competition..
or what if he just wanna get in the team and collect medals hmm.gif
