I assume that you're looking for a thin and light gaming laptop with big battery? If yes, what are the thickness and weight you prefer?

Illegear also got thin and light models with long battery life like Onyx G, Selenite Pro (17 inch)

2080SMQ isn't that worth IMO. 2070SMQ is about a 2070N, still OK but price a little high

Would suggest waiting. There are other models like Legion 7

Yes you are right, something thin and light as this will be my main daily driver. About thickness no specific thickness as long as not thicker than 2inch will do, and for weight, preferably less than 2.5kg if possible.

Being realistic, this kind of devices cannot be too thin as well due to sufficient cooling is needed and to pack a decent hardware and battery. So ultrabook dimensions are secondary. However would like the 15inch size factor as it balances both portability and performance.

Agree with you on the gpu part, 2070smq or 2070n will do fine for me.

I have Auros & onyx pro shortlisted for now, and will wait out as your advice to see what q3 has to offer.

Thank you again for your valueable advice. In between, keep up the good work on your reviews! I like your blog alot, helps to educate us a lot on gaming laptops πŸ˜„

You don't need thin and light then if you're fine with 2.5kg and 2 inch

You're welcome

Hi sifus,

Am looking to get a gaming laptop post MCO, am looking to get a 15inch with at least 2070SMQ. Preferable portable as I travel often and game on the go.

Right now aiming for Auros 15G,  any comments on this ? Or should I wait out for better alternatives ?

Currently I have an Illegear d9x , hence I want to view other options in the market aside from Illegear . Ps I don’t dislike them, they are good in fact, just itchy to try other brands now πŸ˜ƒ.

Hey guys, after watching a couple of videos online regarding the new intel processors, it seems the 10th gen is not a worthy upgrade to the 9th gen. I mean the gain are marginal at best.

https://www.dell.com/en-my/shop/laptops-and...60151702cpmyw10

So I've been looking at laptops with 9th gen cpu and cant help but notice Dell G5 5590 with rtx 2060 is only rm4599. Is there a better deal from a manufacturer in terms of support? I really dont want to deal with boutique manufacturer with abysmal warranty support. I remember with dell before at my workplace they offer on site support and replacement PCs while they fix the broken pc. These laptops come with 2 year onsite support which is most manufacturers didn't offer at the price point.

Edit: link to the laptop.

How bad is the cooling? Can you point me to a review or article?

Edit: yeah i saw a couple of video online, seems like if you UV it should be bearable.

I did check out Y540 but their cheapest RTX is around 6000 and they dont offer installment on Maybank cards. Plus the only laptops i found with rtx from major manufacturers for under 5000 is from dell.

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-G5-15-55...U.440535.0.html
-latest BIOS make things even worse (slow fan speed), CPU barely handling 30-35W under CPU+GPU load (even thinner+lighter laptops did better)
-undervolt won't solve bad thermals
-a quick search of 'Dell G5' in SuggestALaptop discord and you'll know how bad it is (including user feedback)
-conclusion: avoid this hot mess, and possibly all current Dell G gaming laptops, since BIOS updates make thermals worse and worse, including older ones with 7th/8th gen CPUs (Dell's approach nowadays unfortunately)

Hi all sifus..

Need some help and recommendations.

I have an 8 years old Lenovo Laptop. Boot time takes forever. Around 3 mins. Is it better for me to just buy another gaming laptop or just buy 500gb SSD instead? It can run 60 fps with very low settings for Dota 2. It really hurt my eyes tho.

Purpose: Dota 2, CSGO, Dota Underlords
Budget: Cheapest Laptop that can play Dota 2 on high settings

Not that hardcore tho. Just playing 2-3 hours max and 4-5 hours during weekend. Not really urgent. However, I do travel a lot, so, I would like to bring my laptop when I am outatation. It would be good the laptop is bundled together with gaming mouse and backpack.

Any suggestions?

Better change a new one (IMO change every 3-5 yrs), if you have the budget. What's your max budget?

Hi bro ZM,

Wanna seek your advise. Does Acer Predator Triton 300 price at RM3599 is ok?

I really dig the 4 zone RGB keyboard and 144hz with 72% ntsc. Spec also wise come with i5 9th gen and GTX1650.

I come across other model (GTX1650) at similar price such as,
- Forge 15
- Illegear Raven SE
- Lenovo Legion Y7000
- Asus TUF FX505DT
- Acer Nitro 5
- HP Pavilion Gaming 15

But only the Triton 300 come with 4 zone RGB with 144hz, 72% ntsc.

The Forge and Raven might also come with 120hz, but its not 72%ntsc. If wanna opt that color panel, pricing will close to 4k already.

Thanks in advance.

Triton 300 uses same cooling as Nitro 5, not recommended as in order to achieve acceptable thermals, you need to turn on max fans

If you prefer 144Hz 72%, can consider Legion Y7000SE customize (apply code LENXCIMB)

A bit expensive IMO, moreover cooling isn't good

Either 48Wh or 90Wh battery, unfortunately our market get 48Wh

Not too heavy of course. I will carry them quite a lot during my travel. No issue on battery life.

Just asking whether buying a laptop by credit card instalment is better than just pay by cash?

If payment by instalment then I would go for higher/better quality gaming laptop. If just using cash, then the budget will be tighter.

GTX1650 gaming laptop can play Dota 2 on high settings?
