Right after that, I've watched videos that benchmarked this laptop with games and the CPU temp constantly hits around 85-95 degrees...i'm no expert but isn't that not a good thing? Not to mention that online reviews (not much, so credibility is doubtful) do back up that fact. I've been sweating since my purchase...

I was just wondering....why do you constantly recommend this model (i realize what they offer is really worth it....hardware wise) since the thermals aleegedly aren't that good...compared to the Forge 15 Pro or Acer Helios 300 (I may be wrong)...is there something that I'm missing? I hope you can enlighten me on this

Thanks

Thermals are good in this model, however there might be poor heatsink due to QC. Read this: https://genexisx.blogspot.com/2019/09/my-th...-in-legion.html

I can guide you to do some thermal testing if you want, just to make sure that thermals are normal

Pertaining on your claim that the thermals are good....can i know what is or are your evidence on that?

If your evidence is that it is similar to the y540, Jarrod's Tech did a thermal test recently and the although stress test temps are somewhat similar, gaming temps are a whole 5-7 degrees more than the y540 under balanced and performance mode. You could argue that every laptop is manufactured differently but let's just ignore that for arguments sake.

Do know that i'm not undermining your recommendation to me and to many others....if it does feel so then I am terribly sorry. I just need an assurance that I purchased something right

I have collected some thermal data, if you're interested to know PM me

Jarrod got a bad Y540 unit apparently, the new Y7000SE he tested seems fine

Like I mentioned, I can guide you on thermal testing, if you want. Many Y540/Y7000SE buyers in this forum had done the same thing and so far only 2 ppl got lemon units (both changed heatsink which is covered under warranty), at least all the forumers I've contacted

First of all, do you need these:
Long battery life
TB3
Glass touchpad
Super light weight
Numpad
Better software/driver support

For audio, Onyx Pro is better out of the box but Vapor has SoundBlaster software for further tuning

For thermals, Onyx Pro is slightly better but Vapor isn't that bad also

For keyboard, suggest you to try out both laptops

Also it depends on your budget

What do you think of the Terra 15 from Level51? It looks like a copy of the Illegear Laguna SE, I assume performance would be the same?

First of all thank you ZM Fong for helping this thread.

I am a lurker for this discussion thread and I have ordered my Y540 Lenovo laptop 2 days ago. My conclusion LENXCIMB code works and Shopback 6% both provided significant cost savings.

Customize Y540, Y7000 same spec like above you will find pricing below:
Bag + support care = +RM2.
HF processor I read it performs marginally better over H

Lenovo Legion Y540-15IRH
Part # 81SXCTO1WW, RM7,683.00 (RM7,563.00 for HDD 5400)

Lenovo Legion Y7000 2019 (is the image screenshot above)
Part # 81NSCTO1WW, RM7,517.00 (this have HDD 5400)

Difference RM166.00 increase for 7200 rpm HDD speed for Y540.
I believe there is a bug in choosing HDD option for Y7000.
Suppose no bug, I estimate price to be 7,637 here.

Y540 + code + shopback = 7,685.00 - 1536.80 - 356.40 ~ RM 5792
Used CIMB card because other Amex card not allowed.
Please note my cashback claims is only approved in April to confirm no returns or cancellation.

My second laptop choice is Area 51 Forge Elite customize till ~RM 5900. They come with free games for this CNY promo.

Third is wait restock Onyx/Onyx Pro by Illegear cuz they sold out Pro. (To physically compare both)

HF CPU is the same with H, only thing is no iGPU which hurts battery life

other cards also can use according to some forumers

Level51 BTW, Forge 15 Elite only has 120Hz low sRGB tho

I choose HF based on gaming performance comparison in game-debate.com (second article)

https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-i..._i7_9750hf-1109

https://www.game-debate.com/cpu/index.php?p...h-6-core-2-6ghz

Then hypothetical second choice dont choose Forge. Choose Terra 15
Dump the hard drive in Terra 15. RM 6383
I suspect (no proof) their thermal compound, wireless, bluetooth, SSD speed is better than Lenovo Y540 (speculate based on bombastic component brand name only ya)

Edit: Also saw on Intel website the HF graphic core seems not compared with H. Lenovo payment, confirm seeing a Visa card option but I do not have Visa card. Amex terus cannot key in ya. The other one is Direct Debit, dunno what issit.

The fact is it doesn't perform better, those websites don't provide accurate info

Personally I would rather take Forge rather than Terra due to those little issues that affect thermals and performance (refer to my review on Illegear Laguna SE, which is basically the same model)

If Forge 120Hz is not desired but Forge is preferred over Terra, then I went over to quote Forge Pro. RM 6603 same spec but without Office Home/Student. Mine (Y540) RM 5800 with Office Home/Student software.
In order to match price, cut RAM to 16G and dump regular hard drive Forge Pro becomes RM 5824.

Forge Pro looks like a worthy second choice. So if Y540 did not have that code and no Shopback I would choose Forge Pro. Comes with nice sounding freebies too.

With 2060 GPU:
Level51 Forge 15 Pro: 3 hrs battery life
Lenovo Legion Y540 15 customize (i7,2060,144Hz): use code LENXCIMB

Wouldn't really recommend MSI and Asus due to quality concerns and price (MSI only), worsen by the questionable aftersales

If you for any reason choose Lenovo website, dont forget to click through Cashback app. Simple setup and no brainer earn RM 200+. I am not saying you should buy Lenovo. In case only. And in any case, you still choose MSI or Asus, then Cashback over Shopee site is 0.6% ~RM 20+
