Understand that the digital version would mean you cannot play any of your physical PS4 games.
So for those who cares about backwards compat and has a lot of physical PS4 games, best to get the disc version. Of course you can just rebuy your owned games too. |

QUOTE(Thrust @ Jun 12 2020, 12:32 PM) There's not much 'WOW' factor already moving from PS4 to PS5. 80% of the games shown were using ray tracing. If you cannot see the beauty in that, then that's not much else to say.Graphically, the PS5 looks more like visual enhancement instead of revolutionize the graphics. QUOTE(Zeliard @ Jun 12 2020, 12:50 PM) u know what ben, i agree with sony on this, when they commented on ps4 lacking in backwards compatibility as compared to rival xbox, citing gamers do not want to play last gen game on current console. there is some valid truth here, seeing we have so many remasters and remakes and so many upcoming games there just ain't enough time to revisit old games. it's good to have a console that's compatible with your whole library, but if no one gives a damn on nintendo compatibility why playstation then? surely your mp3 player cannot put in cd. surely your cd player cannot put in cassette. surely your video player cannot even run on betamax! Yup. Pushing forward is a good thing instead of always dwelling on the past. Giving options is the way to go and I'm pretty sure the digital version will come up as the best seller instead of the disc one, assuming the digital version will be much cheaper that is. I'm expecting $50-$80 cheaper. |

The PS5 may not even launch on the same day in Malaysia compared to the US or EU. I'd be surprised if it's even in the same month.

QUOTE(Edward_Ng @ Jun 15 2020, 11:54 AM) Anyone has any good 4k 60hz 27 inch Monitor with good HDR support which can fully utilsed PS5 feature to recommend in Malaysia? Unless you have money for a Sony BVM X300 (only 35k USD), good HDR for monitors don't actually exist.dont think so is worth going for 120hz as advertise when all their game is focus on 4k 30 FPS-60FPS. am i right? |

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jun 15 2020, 04:10 PM) 1) That's not a 2160p monitor.2) HDR on that monitor is not what I'll call "good". Its brightness is okay, but the tone mapping curve Asus implemented is horrendous. 3) At 11k, just buy a 48" LG CX instead. Would be cheaper and actually gives you good HDR. QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jun 15 2020, 04:44 PM) Yeah and he is asking for a monitor rather than a TV, and the one you mentioned for monitor isn't affordable at all, not really helpful either. Well a monitor with good HDR at sane level prices for the average consumer doesn't exist....Personally I'd get a TV as well, but there aren't really any 32inch or 27inch and below that is 4K for TV, so that's that. He wants to use it as a monitor, which is why he is just asking. So what's the solution? Either get a display that is sufficient for HDR or don't play in HDR at all. QUOTE(greyshadow @ Jun 15 2020, 05:08 PM) well, if playing without the HDR, you're losing out some of the great details, IMO some games are more immersive if play with HDR on @boldedroom size is not an issue, i myself also managed to put a 55" TV in my bedroom for gaming, I still can go for 65" if I want, and my room aren't even very big to begin with anyway, RM2.5k budget can get you a decent 50" 4K TV, a last year model Samsung 50" RU7400 with HDR10+ support is less than RM2.5k now, you may can get less than 2k if you hunt around a bit Not necessarily so. Until very recently, many games used a maximum of 10,000 nits as its peak maxCLL output. Devs did this because they didn't even understand HDR to begin with. No consumer displays has the capability to be that bright. This is where tone mapping comes in and it is why it's the single most important thing for a HDR capable display to be able to do well. Unfortunately, most displays even the highest OLED flagships hasn't perfectly nailed the right balance when it comes to tone mapping. This is important because if a scene from the game is showing, say example - 4000 nits, your display cannot show that specular highlight/detail. What does it do then? Just clip it. Meaning that detail is practically loss. Not so much of a "great details" now is it? Some games in the last year has allowed users to control the peak brightness and the paper white value for their games, so the game's engine does the tone mapping instead of the display. However these games are few and far between and I do not expect it to be a standard option for gamers in the next couple of years. There are games that's coming out this year that still doesn't have such an option. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Jun 15 2020, 05:23 PM |

IMO until devs understand what HDR is and displays are better at tone mapping, HDR for gaming is not really a big deal. It adds to the experience, but it isn't very significant IMO.

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jun 16 2020, 07:37 PM) I personally agree as well HDR for gaming sucks big time. There is barely any good implementation of HDR in games, unlike movies and etc. Funny thing is, HDR has been designed to be viewed in a dark room.I'm not that bothered considering I like to play my games in a dark room, and it gets rather blinding when I turn HDR on, because yeah gotta up the brightness to show the HDR. Maybe PS6 and above will have better implementation of HDR by the game dev. Definitely not the case now, most have been half assed in terms of implementation. This is base on current PS4 as well as PC experience HDR wise. It's both sides fault really. Consumer displays can't do HDR properly, devs who make the games are using said consumer displays that doesn't do HDR properly in the first place. Shit in and shit out. QUOTE(victorr @ Jun 17 2020, 04:40 PM) If I play ps4 games on Ps5, can I get 120fps on it? Ask again in 6 months time.for example CoD: Modern warfare barely get 60fps on ps4. On Ps5 will it lock at 60fps or can go higher? |

Sigh.
When the PS1 was first unveiled, people said it looks like a cramped boombox with a disc player. When the PS2 was first unveiled, people said it looks like some weird cut out of a building. When the PS3 was first unveiled, people said it looks too big, too glossy and people hated that they went with a Spider-Man font. When the PS4 was first unveiled, people said it's a copy of a PS2 just slimmer. Guess where we are at now? |

The battery in Dsense is apparently only 1526mAh.
Get your wallets ready for 2 extra controllers again. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Aug 23 2020, 11:48 PM |

QUOTE(misterpotato @ Aug 25 2020, 09:21 AM) Just curious they cant put in bigger capacity battery? I mean our thin phone is able to have much better battery. If not technical issue, must be cost issue then, or they simply want to sell more controller.. Both, but it's really more of a cost issue.Yes, selling more peripherals is what will make up for the loss in the console's hardware cost. Pretty sure both Sony and MS will be losing money on their console this time around just like they did before in the PS3/360 days. QUOTE(greyshadow @ Aug 25 2020, 11:30 AM) IINM DS4 is using 1000mAh only It's not that simple though. The light bar hasn't been "minus" off, it's just been moved to within the touchpad area. There's still light on the Dsense.DualSense is 1526mAh, so that's a 50% increase, minus off the bright light bar which is the juice waster but with adaptive triggers which will consume more juice, I would say batt life should be similar to DS4 I think the feature to take the most battery life is the haptic feedback along with the standard vibration motors. Sony will probably say that the Desense will support quick charge anyways with the help USB C, so you shouldn't have as much of a downtime as you would with the DS4. |

TOSLINK (optical) is simply an outdated standard, it was made in 1983. Yes, it's nearly 4 decades old now.
The standard has been supported more than long enough already. This post has been edited by SSJBen: Sep 6 2020, 03:45 PM |

QUOTE(greyshadow @ Sep 7 2020, 08:48 AM) My Arctis wireless headset is using toslink also USB and optical are just audio signal transports, in a digital form. They have no difference in "sound quality" if all else being equal. In fact, USB is theoretically better because it can transmit higher bandwidth than optical. The only advantage optical has is that it can be used for very long runs where as USB are usually limited to no more than 5m without a signal booster.once you've used that, there's no way you gonna go back to the inferior quality of USB wireless audio This post has been edited by SSJBen: Sep 7 2020, 04:28 PM |

QUOTE(abhipraaya @ Sep 13 2020, 12:34 PM) Which one will you choose, disc or Digital? At this time, neither. Probably going to quit console gaming altogether considering how underwhelming it's been this entire generation.I think I'll go with disc because there's a huge market for used games where else Digital games cannot be traded. Correct me if I'm wrong. Never owned a console before and I'm looking forward to own my first one. |
