From the photo you attached it looks like your casing has warped a little bit, causing a small gap above the dvd-drive slot... Might be caused by excessive heat.. If your macbook is still under warranty, send it back to where you bought it and get it checked... Should be able to get it fixed/replaced.

OMG, MacBook certainly has a major flaw in the casing. In my school Sri Cempaka. We all use Apple MacBook's to do out school work. Almost all of my friends have the exact same problem where the casing sticks out a bit. Or maybe the front side or the other side sticks out. I don't assume that is a problem thought because my friends MacBook all got no problem. But one of my friend went to fix it and payed RM2700! Even though he had warranty. Comes out usually after 4 months or more.

@TechnoDude94: I think your friend should bring this case to the consumer court (if he keeps the receipt and took photos of the detached case) to claim back the 2700.

The laptop is still under warranty and this is clearly a manufacturer defect. I know as a student of Sri Cempaka, most likely he/she/you will be very well off but this is more of consumer rights. Who knows, this may actually create a precedent case and allow other macbook users who face the same problem to get their macbook changed without much problem caused by the apple dealers anymore.

I have the same problems with you. There are certain parts of my Macbook that doesnt "stick" together.

* On the left side, nears the USB port
* Top of Macbook, iSight
* Part of battery does not fit in properly

I won't be asking for a repair unless some other problem arises in the future. I think this is rather small esthetic issues....

Warranty long long more to go.....

I think before any of my friends do buy Macbooks in the future, I would certainly ask them to check the fitting and then for any dead pixels before carrying that Macbook home....

Increase the fan speed within the MacBook as mentioned by one of the other forumers here or in another forum to reduce the heat.

I think it is more of poor assembly than heat expanding the plastic. I remember mine having these gaps since the 1st day.

Not all though. My GF's called them before for support, and the fellow was in India (she asked, and he answered). But did a damn good job at doing the Auz accent though.. hehe

presumably the guys at maccity began to panic because we made a huge fuss about both machines.. a macbook (blk) and macbook pro.. so basically they probably called up apple australia and asked them to call us..this is since they have our contact details at the shop anyways. I have a lot of faith in apple, it was seriously dented when these problems came along with cr@p service. even though i didnt have apple care, the machine was new enough that they replaced them anyways. this wound that maccity make gonna take a long time to heal. i'm not sure what the other distributors in malaysia are like as i only bought from maccity in the past.

My MB is not showing signs of any gaps, but my gf's MB does have a gap. She sent it to Apple Centre in singapore, and got it fixed in 1 day...

OFFTOPIC::
Bought both my MB and MBP from Mac Studio at Lowyat plaza... both are perfectly fine.. hrmmm.. now I am in Singapore, and the support me DAMNED good. I just called to tell them about my MB discoloration and they said they will replace it free of charge, just had to bring it to Apple centre... The guy was from Australia.. i tink Apple Singapore Customer Service is transferred to Australia.. I also requested for the Mac OS X installation disk, it costs SGD22, but I received it in 3 days! DAMN fast...

Personally, I don't see a reason for them to panic. All they had to do is to follow the standard procedures for this kinda stuff.

Apple machines with even the most tiny of defects out of the box r to be considered as 'dead on arrival' on the spot. All they had to do was to take it back from u, and give u a new one. Not gonna cost them anything, as they'll just exchange that 'DOA' unit with Apple. Only reason that I can think of here is them not wanting to put up with the paperwork.

put it this way... i know about alot of the updates that apple releases before they do. and to know that is quite scary since they are meant to be apple distributor, i duno what their policy is but it is useless....

anyways my new machine is finally on the way so im not too worried.

well, considering what u just said, that brings up another possibility now, of which is ignorance on their part.

oh btw. should you run into problems in the future, no need to go back to them. Just bring your machine to one of the service centers (I tend to go straight to VR Tech over in Jln Yap Kuan Seng).
its faster that way, as most of the resellers tends to send stuff over there too.

finally i got the answer...pls look at this pictures, i got from website ifixit...

actually, this part is the top cover of macbook that attach with keyboard and touch pad.
so, the best thing that u can do, just let it or change to a new cover..the gap didn't give any problem to the macbook performance..

Attached Image
Attached Image

for the lcd area gap, actually there are many tabs, made to attach the display bezel.
Attached Image

so, dont put any glue to these gaps because you will find hard when u want to repair it.(not to u but to the apple technition.)

yup...that true..not only apple reseller, other computer reseller also would do the same
they will ignore it, if its only 1 dead pixel.
