10% paper gain after less than 1 year of investment. Pretty good I would say.

I know this sounds stupid/oversimplify/no0b.. but assuming roboadvisers would rebalance holdings depending in the market situation... so all drops in current port is very temporary?

that is the idea behind getting robots to do the investing, because they can crunch data like super terror?

Dollar-cost averaging

Dollar-cost averaging (DCA) is an investment strategy in which an investor divides up the total amount to be invested across periodic purchases of a target asset in an effort to reduce the impact of volatility on the overall purchase

the drop across the world is due to Covid-19 uncertainties. There is nothing to rebalance lol. unless they want to put more allocation for safe heavens.
what do you mean by excess money?
*
excess money available for discretionary use. was trying to understand why DCA is the preferred method for investing in SAMY.

say got 1k, and if one choose to DCA 100/month, the balance of the money go where?

some1 mentioned invest in other place, but let say that SAMY is the only place one invests... shouldnt lump sum be better?

I've put in RM20k last week.

Now drop by RM150

Should i panic?

Will it go down to RM0?
*
you went gung-ho with your 20k, and you mentioned that you are a noob in investing? quite big sum you dumped, so i guess you are not risk averse? if indeed this is the case, chill la, oni RM150 drop aje

Maybe $20k to him is just small change. If I have a few millions, then $20k is no biggie
*
hence why i say it is okay that the portfolio drops a bit, since it is only rm150 from the 12k he put in, lol

Didn't see any activity or changes to portfolio by roboadvisor since the start of the dip... I was assuming some auto adjustment will be done to protect our investment.... Thought this is one of the selling point of roboadvisor...

i am assuming that the market is bad across the board, so how?

Just wondering - does it makes sense to start investing in SA, or wait until more positive news come out first?

Now is a good time for me but dont top up all your cash.
Maybe break it into 2 or 3 parts and invest.

Buy low sell high. Now it's low so it's time to buy but nobody knows how low and how long it's gonna stay low. So DCA is the way.
*
thanks lads. my thought process is this... i have started SA since Aug19, and now plan to get wife to join.

but here the thing.. i am now in the reds, with negative returns around 30-40%. if wife joins now, she will be in the same situation too, correct?

what about..... wait it out, see exonomy improves before starting? she will have to start when the market goes up and no need to recover losses. make sense?

If you started after the stock market orbital drop, probably you'll be in green cuz the market recovered a bit last week, but overall the prices are still lower than past year so its still red overall
*
hmmm makes sense. I started in Aug'19, and has been DCA-img and no withdrawals made so far
