If you want to keep your emotion at the side, then any fixed amount per weekly/bi-weekly/monthly would do. But if you want to be hardcore, try lookup at the ETFs SA invested on. If there's a drop, put more.
*
thanks. but another concern of mine is with gold taking up 20% of total allocation and with its current all time high price. With gold price showing no signs of retreating in current climate, means we are continuously buying it at higher prices through dca. If gold prices were to crash suddenly for whatever reason (which happened before in 2011 or 2013 i think) then all of us will get a good beating.

well the above could be avoided if SA performs another round of reoptimization by disposing gold just before any possible crash as "predicted" by their algorithm. guess we just have to trust SA in this or another way is for us to cash out SA if we feel gold will crash soon.

Same concern with me especially with the 20% gold allocation which is why i kept the US centric portfolio. Since we cant really adjust our exposure on gold through SA. I allocate 25% of fund on the newer portfolio with gold, thus adjusting to 5% overall exposure to gold through SA.
*
thats a good move. but i wasnt on active dca mode earlier so i just opted in for the reoptimisation without thinking much.

also with gold now being allocated the same weightage of 20% across all risk category, we cant "lock in" the gold earnings by switching to a different risk profile lol

okla thinking deeper its not as scary as it sounds. Assume my investment in SA makes up 20% of my total portfolio which means my gold exposure is only 4% of my total monies (assuming i have no other gold investments), though the effect of gold is deeply magnified in SA itself

I hope SA will reoptimise the allocations for gold when (or if) the gold prices dropped drastically. But gold's volatility is quite constant throughout though. Haha
*
yeah thats the best we could hope for and pray SA will not let us down. till then its still a time bomb that may catch everyone by surprise even to SA loll

SAMY gives itself a lot of leeway in term of how much it can drop. If you own a 36% portfolio, u can expect it to drop up till 36% if their algo works correctly.

36% is a lot!
*
yeah but am just factoring in the risk and possibility their algo may hiccup only haha. But so far everything seems to be in place.

QUOTE(Xenopher @ Jul 31 2020, 10:53 AM)
Even with DCA we'll not constantly buying gold at high price. The fresh fund will go into rebalancing aka buying the under-performed assets in the portfolio. In my 36% portfolio case, the fresh fund will go into global reits.
*
good to know that at least they are buying more of the underperforming assets to smoothen out things

How accurate is this tracking vs the SA app? Do you have to like update every single dividend received and any rebalancing activity? Looks like alot of monitoring and work needed to maintain?

think a more relevant question would be will SAMY be here to stay for the next 10-20years? Only time will tell.

Nope, you only track units and price you bought, that's all.
Rebalancing is a very rare occasion which easy to track too (i had shared earlier post on how to do it).
dividend received will be port back to your "cash profile" which i don't track (in android version).
*
Thanks for sharing. Perhaps i shall give it a try

Write down the jompay code, uninstall the apps and do dca.
After 1 year install back the apps and see the result.
*
Too bad may not work for those that have multiple portfolios like me cos we have to specify in the app how we want the deposits to be allocated, else it will be allocated equally across all portfolios.

Dca, before monthly, this month start bi-weekly.

Seems like dca also provides decent returns in a rising market condition as well.

Yea. But it’s closely follow the graph.

Hardly to explain but you need to be dca long enough to realise this.
*
may i ask if your dca has smoothen out the currency impact or forex volatility of your portfolio? You are dca-ing even if market is high and usdmyr is unfavourable say even at 4.4 or 4.5 lvl?

About that... Not really sure. Because I don't keep track. I just DCA and let them do the job
*
I see. Means its consistent amount at consistent times without any attempt to top up more during market dips or dca less when market are highs. This is really taking emotions out of investing

Even without the transparent AUM figures given by SA, lets just say in the event SA goes bust, our money is still safe right since its held and safeguarded separately by trustee?

So still kinda safe to invest up to 6 figures? Ofcourse i am not there yet but hopefully to reach there in the long term.

If anyone is curious, whenever you close a portfolio and transfer to another portfolio, the net value of that closed portfolio will be inluced under net deposit. At least that is what i see in my account, but i keep a proper record of whatever i deposit in so it is not a concern for me and do not depend on the app to give me info on my net deposit.
*
Is this the same for withdrawal in a portfolio as well? As in any amount withdrawn will be reflected under net deposit as well up to the cent level?

After withdrawal, it will deduct the net deposit.

Due to the foreign exchange and the change of ETF's price, the amount you get may not be round figure.
*
Thanks guys. Means if i were to withdraw rm1000, there's a likelihood i may get rm990.87 or rm1010.21 due to fluctuating nature of forex and final ETF sale price? Haha interesting
