Look, this thread's title is "EPF - Self contribution".

If one can put extra into EPF, they have extra funds. I am actually suggesting AGAINST putting extra into EPF because it's a risky move.

The self-contrib portion could have gone to robo-advisors low-mid risk portfolios and that's a good hedge against MYR. Most robos take deposits as low as RM 1~100.

Seriously if you can sendiri top up extra to EPF, you owe it to yourself to at least put a bit of $ in other places and not all in EPF.
*
It all depends on your financial position and portfolios. I will say robo advisor are much higher risk than EPF. EPF has proven to be safe and decent returns for decades. If you are like me, near retirement age. Putting in Max to EPF yearly is a good move. I can withdraw all in a few years time.Of course, again this depend on how much you have...usually people here who max in EPF are pretty much cash rich and it's better than FDs and no need headache to search here and there for best FDs deal.

If you are 21 years old and have 100k only. Of course it is not good idea to dump everything into EPF. It all depends on your own situation.

QUOTE(Rinth @ Oct 12 2022, 12:08 PM)
EPF contribution is for retirement, therefore any excess self contribution portion should be treated as part of your retirement funds, not investment/hedging portfolios. and i think the self contribution function is good for those not salaried employees, such as enterprise owner, commissioner earner, freelancer/youtuber/tiktoker etc etc, whereby their base salary are low or none.

And i'm agreed with you that if you're high salary earner with extra saving, self contribute to EPF might not a wise move UNLESS you're approaching RM 1 mil threshold.....you may perform whatever investment/hedging you prefer.
*
The top T0 has over RM10 mil in EPF...you think they high salary earner or not? Surely these are not dumb people...we ikan bilis look see look see and follow only lah....lol.

Quick one,

Does the maximum self-contribution amount of RM100K start this year(YA22) or does it only begin in YA23 since it's a budget 2023 thing?

Govt raises voluntary EPF contribution cap to RM100,000 in Budget 2023 (via The Edge Markets)
From that posts, it says :

1) The government has raised the cap for voluntary retirement contribution for Employees Provident Fund (EPF) contributors to RM100,000
2) The second para, "The proposal comes as EPF also reported ....."

So has it been raised? or is it just a proposal ?  rclxub.gif
*
I think it's confirmed right? Reported in Budget 2023. Nobody objects, Budget passed.

Maybe they research about the tier dividends thingy... Cannot make decisions yet 😂 headache & possibly interference from outside too 😏

New separate EPF is kinda good idea 👍
For those really needed them... Maybe have some insurance coverage linked contributors too... Since many too poor to have one...
*
If tiered dividend all those more than a mil and those over 55 sure lari. Leave all the poorfags demanding 10k every 3 mths. See they die or not. Hahahaha!

Noted, only for my own discipline before spending money on an unwanted item LOL. So we can still contribute right, if we want to?
*
Put in KDI Save for 2 wks, earn 3.5% interest. Then withdraw and dump into EPF. Give 2-3 days time frame for withdrawal from KDI Save, then about 5 working days before end of the month to dump in EPF so that it's reflected before the end of the month. I am not sure if you dump in day last day of the month to EPF, it will only appear the following month, but will the transaction be counted as previous month?

KDI Save 2 weeks earn interest ? Seriously ? you done it ? For how long ?
*
Why not? It's a daily compoubding interest basis thing. Last year I have dump in significant amount on standby, only moved out when the FD went up to 4% and more. One day also can. But of course, one day no point lah. KDI Save is legit financial company by Kenanga. Money is yours....not a hamster game playing fake coin in TriumpFx where your money can't be withdraw.

But if you apply KDI Save now maybe need 5 -7 days? I can't remember. So maybe a bit late. But you can open an account to prepare for next time. As temporary storage with higher interest than most savings/current account.

Yes, Versa is similar, but I read KDI Save has faster withdrawal period. Not too sure though. KDI Save is good enough for me.

Everything should tally

Anyone here tried to transfer 100k? I see the contribution stated is 60k only. What if I put 100k, the 40k excess will return to me immediately or need few days?
*
QUOTE(MUM @ Jan 10 2023, 01:26 AM)
If I am not mistaken, some forummers had mentioned previously, that excess money would be returned...few days later..
*
Yes, I accidentally dumped in too much. Calculate wrongly...lol. But it wasn't big amount...I think maybe 1K plus minus.

Got it back after a few days. Tendang balik to my bank account.
