Why so jumpy? You retired today and the jitter wiped out 1 year of your withdrawal value?

Index up I smile and put down phone and sleep because I bought some earlier

Index down I also smile and put down phone and sleep because I can buy some at discount later

Does anyone know how to check on TradeStation / IB client portal - dividend payout for accumulating type ETF bought?
*
Accumulative ETFs don't pay out dividends, hence your broker wouldn't have that recorded - to see the actual figures you'd have to refer to the fund manager's ETF annual report

Just found out about 3140.hk
Seems like the tracking is not bad
*
The one listed on HK does not have tax treaty and subjected to 30% withholding tax

This just come to mind....should I allocate 50% SXR8 and 50% CSPX to hedge against currency risk?
*
Both tickers are not hedged against currency movements - they just happen to be denominated in different currencies with the same underlying securities

You can do your hedging with your bonds, depending where you plan to retire e.g. MBH/A35/SSB if you plan to retire in Singapore

No danger for the time being - the article gives the impression that passive index accounts for 90% of the market volume, when in fact it's still the minority. Active fund managers will always seek ways to arbitrage any discount/premiums and tip the scale back to actively managed funds when they outperform passive funds.

Which way you chose to bring back the money? Via Singapore bank? Or TT straight to local bank account?

how to check if the ETF has accumulated its dividend??
*
I assume you're asking for an ETF with accumulating class? It will be reported in the annual report.

Yes, accumulating ETF.

but can't we see any increase in our holdings? For example, before dividend I have 10 units. After dividend, I have 10.50 units. No?? How does accumulating ETF work? I thought they auto-invest the dividend?
*
The price increases instead of number of units in holdings. One 'lazy' way to find out how many % is to load both accumulating and distributing classes of the same ETF (e.g. VWRA and VWRD) on Bloomberg.com

Oh, I see. Thanks!

but then, for distributing ETF, you can buy invest more before the ex-date right?
for accumulating ETF, how? do they announce an ex-date?
*
There's no ex-date for accumulating class, any dividend from the underlying securities is reinvested minus withholding tax back into the fund thus increasing the NAV

I have a question, just found out FZROX with 0% expenses ratio, but there's two draw back:
1. US domicile, 30% WHT
2. Dividend once per year

Maybe there's a Ireland domicile version of it I haven't discover?
*
FZROX's almost identical twin mutual fund is Vanguard's VTSAX, which has an ETF equivalent VTI tracking U.S. all cap index.

From there you can probably mix and match an Irish domiciled S&P500 ETF (~80%) with a Mid/Small Cap ETF (~20%).

Smaller investment amount, just go with S&P500 alone as you'd be dragged by transaction fees to maintain 2 funds.

Anyone invest in one pure sector ETF instead of all sector e.g. SPY?

e.g. XLK

technology sector ETF is a boom these few years.

e.g. in 2019

XLK return is around 49.97%

SPY return is around 31.29%
*
Not in specific S&P sector, but I have small holding in a disruptive theme ETF. Ballooned a little when Tesla skyrocketed.

Interestingly it pays out dividend as "short term capital gain" which is tax exempt.

Sorry for not being clear enough.

1) The option in this image : https://www.tradestation-international.com/...account-tsg.png

Do I need to transfer funds first ?

Also I read there is a 500USD minimum deposit, so all transfers to Tradestation should be more than 500USD? aka more than RM 2.1k?

2) When transferring to Tradestation from Instarem, Tradestation provides these details : https://www.dropbox.com/s/itb27onpz5y8f6o/S....16.56.png?dl=0

But Instarem requires an email address and phone number, but I can't find an 'official' Tradestation email and number.

Thanks again for helping me out !

Hope this helps - this is the address that reached out to me after I sent an enquiry through their Contact Us page.

Thanks a lot! Should have all the information I need to transfer.

Do you know if each wire transfer has to be a minimum of USD500 or just the initial/first transfer?
*
For first transfer, I transferred the minimum required for account opening last year via SG bank equivalent to USD2.5k. For subsequent transfers I've funded as low as SGD500.

Take note that someone has previously tried funding in USD via Instarem and failed.

oh I see. So, even though on the left it's -1%, on the right it's -12%, it's still the same.

kinda hard to imagine; because if you bought the ETF on the left, you lost 1%. The ETF on the right lost 12%.
I thought the percentage would move in tandem.

Don't forget currency conversion effect, SXR8 is denominated in EUR

Hi sifu wanna enquire, can I entire rely on the online web client portal to convert SGD > USD, and buy ETF, instead of having to install the TWS?

What are their differences?
*
Previously only TWS support option for FXCONV, the other 2 platforms defaults to IDEALPRO which creates a virtual position together with your holdings. Things might've change though

Fxconv cheaper ka?
*
Both same. Just that IDEALPRO creates virtual position e.g. USD.SGD. Personally, I don't like to see that so I use TWS to convert.

Is there any difference between these two?

They track different indexes, but the top 10 is the same and both are highly correlated with each other. For the same expense ratio, I'd pick IUIT - it has bigger AUM and larger volume.
