upgraded to 500Mbps but max speed i could get over wifi 2.4g is only around 120Mbps. 5g under 100...

alcatel btu + tplink wdr4300 + tl-wdn4800 pci.

yesterday bought 30m of cat6 cable to test wired speed but only manage to get around 250Mbps.

is there anything wrong with the router because i think it should be capable to deliver 500Mbps over wired connection. or 30m is too long for that speed?

was thinking of hire a handyman over to do a wired connection from router to pc room upstairs but now i have 2nd thought. i figure that would be cheaper than upgrade to a high end router + pci card. if i'll have to upgrade for full speed even on wired then i might as well go wireless right?

any advice? thanks in advance.

TP-Link WDR4300 doesn's support AC Wifi. Wired speed, I'm not sure why it can't get 500mbps when TP-Link claims it can support upto 800mbps. Have you updated the firmware?

Recent would be ax or WiFi 6, but you will need a device that can support it. No point having an AX router, if you don’t have the right devices to utilize it. What is your budget and your current Internet speed?
AFAIK, no laptops/phones/tablets support AX Wifi yet. The closest is Intel 9260 AC Wifi card which supports AX's 160 MHz channel width, reaching 800++ mbps. Reference to smallnetbuilder:

Actually the Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+ does that icon_idea.gif

I believe some laptops announced at CES 2019 also support WiFi 6 (ax)  icon_idea.gif

hi guys i need some help, i searched internet but i think i need the answers for my situation

my plan : UNIFI 100mbps
house : 3 storeys
PC location : 2nd floor

setup
Router at 1st floor : UNIFI D LINK Router (AC1200)
Extender at 2nd Floor : Tp Link RE450  (AC1750 )

After asking UNIFI technician to come, he replaced my Tp LINK C9 router with UNIFI's own DLINK AC 1200 router. I used my iPhone X to connect and it shows 100mbps speedtest , exactly the speed i subscribed

In the second floor my room , i just build a new PC. its a MSI gaming motherboard that comes with a build in wireless AC receive capable of 433mbps. (Specification Page - Intel Wireless AC receiver model 9462 )

the problem is , my PC is connected to the TP LINK extender RE450 , i run speedtest i got like max 50mbps, average 35-40mbps speed

i sit in front of my PC, i use my phone connect to the same extender, i got close to 100 mbps speed, exactly the speed i subscirbed to

so whats the problem ? my build in receiver of motherboard capable of 433mbps but only gets 35mbps ...
initially the technician said the extender might have speed loss, but my phone connected to it no problem it still gives 90-100mbps
what do i need to do ?

thanks in advance

Maybe your PC's Wifi needs latest driver. Can you check whether "Throughput Booster" is enabled?

hi there, thanks for the reply.

yeah i checked it and it was disabled, enabled it and it runs slightly faster , but still less than 50mbps ...

I suppose you're connected to 5 GHz. If all else still fails, then either that Wifi card is not good or the motherboard/PC antennas are small. Perhaps you can try other Wifi external adapter.

Nooo. We already had spider-shaped routers, and now this? Mesh routers or Ubiquity UAPs looks far sleeker.

Paging any AX router and Galaxy S10 owners. Maybe they can give us a Speedtest. I think next year will be the year for AX or WiFi6.
*
One local guy already did this:

https://nasilemaktech.com/wifi-6-speed-test/

In summary: 720 mbps download.

AX on laptops should be even higher. Smallnetbuilder tested Intel 9260 card, which is an AC card that supports 160 MHz channels (similar to AX) and managed to exceed 800 mbps on Asus AX router.

cry.gif why not for the turbo. I waited more than a year for this Unifi...
Btw, I didnt research much on the networking technology. I hear that unifi could connect back to the copper infrastructure. Is that so? correct me if I am wrong.
I know our fiber infra tech is different from other country where they can have parallel speed for both upload and download speed if I didnt remember wrongly.
*
TM's speed is already high. The reality is besides OOKLA's speedtest, very few apps/sites can actually fully max out the speed. My own tests: Windows updates top out at 300 mbps, Netflix download tops out at 150-200 mbps, Steam probably around 100 mbps. 100 mbps is already high for most of of us.

Thanks. When I check the network connection on my desktop PC, it is showing as 100mbps. This is the connection from my router to my PC.

According to the installer, the modem is already operating at 500mbps. Unfortunately, I don't have a laptop that I can plug directly to the modem to verify whether that is true. If the modem is indeed already operating at 500mbps, then I suppose the problem is either the router or my cables.  sweat.gif

Unfortunately, I don't know much about the connector arrangement. The concealed cables in my house was done by a network specialist, so hopefully it was done properly.
*
If the RJ45 connectors were properly crimped and the cables are of good quality, it could be the router.

I DIY my cables' connection using electrical tapes & twisting pairs in order and still getting 700-800 mbps LAN speed biggrin.gif

Throw 850L out of picture. U r better off getting dir868L AC1750 from carousell singapore.

C5v2 iianm has custom firmware option, but not the other 2. Dir868L definitely has custom firmware option. Maybe u can also consider tplink A7.

U need at least AC1750 to fully harvest the bandwidth imo. Those routers that u listed are grade AC1200.
*
I use C1200 as router only, D-Link DIR-868L (running Tomato firmware) as ground floor AP, and 2 DIR-850L (bought second hand) as first floor APs. All wired. Fast Wifi speed all around home, the weakest spot is 180 mbps biggrin.gif

You can get D-Link DIR-868L brand new around RM 170-180. It's the cheapest AC1750 router here. Coverage abit better than C1200 (which is not bad actually).

i own 868L ....use so far so good ..usually will turned off at night time b4 sleep...turn on next morning .1 day turn on at the morning...the WIFI signal suddenly drop to very low transmittion...my phone closed to router Max can get only 1~2 bar... tried reflash  firmware ..no help ...
don't know what happened to the WIFI chip ...

Assuming latest firmware, it's probably damaged. Claim warranty?

i just got a a6 from lazada but thinking of returning it since i can't fully utilize it, all my notebook is just support up to N protocol, might as well get something that is free from TM
*
Either use USB Wifi adapter, or change the internal Wifi card to better card eg Intel 9260.

My C1200 finally died after more than 2 years. RIP. My Tomato-powered D-Link DIR-868L has taken over the C1200's routing/SMB job.

Thinking whether to buy a SOHO router eg Mikrotik or buy another router as ground floor AP (my D-Link's previous duty)?

Wifi on ground floor has slowed down since my D-Link is now locked in store room.

Are SOHO routers really much better than Tomato firmware?

New router definitely better Wifi & SMB performance.

Need to ponder ...

Check out Mikrotik RouterOS here. http://demo.mt.lv
It's the same for all their routers from RM1.00 and above.
*
Thanks, already had few friends using Mikrotik. So nice to have continuous firmware updates & every possible features.

In the end, I end up ordering Tenda AC18. Faster Wifi & fast Samba performance too hard to ignore. Tomato firmware will do for now. Maybe Mikrotik if 1 of my 3 D-Link die one day ...

what other router you recommend for 300Mbps and 500Mbps respectively? Mikrotik or Ubiquiti? budget around RM500

Prefer a router with stellar wireless performances
*
Refer to first post of this thread.

Stellar Wifi performance, you mean fast Wifi at every corner of the house?

Fast and wide kinda difficult, 5ghz is fast but less coverage
2ghz is wide but slower..

I bought Mikrotik HP AC2, the 2.4ghz seems not stable at all..
*
Either Mesh Wifi or wired APs can do fast & wide. My double storey home, with 3 cheap routers as APs, has 5 GHz all around, slowest is180 mbps.

is it possible to report mcmc if tm declines to provide public ip?

TM only gives static public IP for business users, not home users. We still need to rely on DDNS.

You seem confused between public IP and static IP. They are asking for public IP, not static IP.
You are allocated a private IP then, using CGNAT.
*
I think I mentioned static public IP, meaning public IP that is static/fixed & never change for business users eg 42.188.65.66, not internal 192.168.0.1. Home users get public IP that changes from to time, hence DDNS need for internal IP cameras etc. Pls correct me if my limited network knowledge is wrong.

Yes, you termed it correctly. But, the issue here is about public IP, and NOT static IP. It seems that TM is starting to allocate private IP to its users on the Unifi Basic 30Mbps plan.

OK, I think I understand it. Too bad for basic users.
