Thus i actually prefer futon. Probably no frame, which is why futon felt more spacious, although byright the size should be pretty much the same. Errr it's hard to not move at all ...then again, most of the time travelling is so tiring (all the walking) that one is often knocked out upon hitting the bed.

It's actually not that thin. And winter futon is the best - the blanket is super thick and comfortable. I've also slept in ones where there's hot water/ heating (system?) placed in blanket. The most comfortable ever. Where in the world were you sleeping in winter?
True that, coz they need to make way for bathroom. There's that convenience of having a toilet/ bathroom attached but trade-off will be the space. I'd choose attached ones over sharing toilet - as those usually ala Hostel style which freaks me out when I need to go in the middle of the night. Probably a little too much horror movie but i just can't help over imagining things

If you stay in most international hotel, you will get a big room. As for business hotel like APA, they cater for business people who just need a bed for few hours as they are normally out working or drinking. I have tasted both world. When I travel to Japan for business trip, get to stay at ANA, Hyatt, Hilton. Once I start to work in Japan, the budget for a hotel was 8000yen a day! So mostly is those business hotel.

Me & my 4 sisters addicted to japan already. We only have 2 suica. Since we most of the time going different date they will go with their husband. We take turn to use the suica. Lol... Did you plan to use their rail pass or whole trip use IC card only?

If you have cash, the rate of your cash is usually better than Big Pay. However if you plan to swipe CC instead, most of the time Big Pay's rate is better than bank's CC. You'll just need to top up cash into your BigPay card like Debit Card.
Something like that, but it follows the MasterCard rate of when BigPay settles payment with merchant, not when you swipe it. For example, you purchase item A today with BP card. What you get is an estimated charges. If BigPay settles the payment with the merchant next day, the actual amount is charged tomorrow based on the next day's exchange rate.

I'd say it's the weakening of Malaysian currency recently. Not just Japanese yen, it's also high for the other rates. If your trip isn't due yet, wait it out optionally buy a bit and keep to average out (any) potential losses.

yup, i also first buy so cheap bento in japan
but actually i found out their local people super market also selling start from 400 yen, tourist location super market is expensive

unless u plan for whole day in arashiyama, just go upward. finish visiting Arashiyama area 1st in the morning then hitch the train from arashiyama.
either way require u to walk to train station (the scenic train station <> normal station). it quite a long walk btw.

we din pre-purchase due to sold out (scalper i think) n other site selling overprice, we bought it on Kyoto station early. still managed to get good open-air car seat tho.

tried to book early, but somehow all slot are taken. other site selling the tix, but kinda overprice (this make me think ppl are scalping)
we choose to buy em on the counter physically as they only limit amount tix for pre-purchase n left some for counter selling.

talking bout tix reselling, u know those cheap/discounted train/shinkansen tix they are selling at small kiosk/shop.
those are working ppl buying those tix, get receipt n claimed company, then they travel by cheap overnight bus instead. 

but then perhaps they update the law n require names, tho last year i still see those type of shop still opening tho.
