Thus i actually prefer futon. Probably no frame, which is why futon felt more spacious, although byright the size should be pretty much the same. Errr it's hard to not move at all sweat.gif ...then again, most of the time travelling is so tiring (all the walking) that one is often knocked out upon hitting the bed.
*
The thin mattress is not very comfy though. sweat.gif And it could get pretty cold sleeping on the futons during winter. biggrin.gif

It's actually not that thin. And winter futon is the best - the blanket is super thick and comfortable. I've also slept in ones where there's hot water/ heating (system?) placed in blanket. The most comfortable ever. Where in the world were you sleeping in winter? biggrin.gif
True that, coz they need to make way for bathroom. There's that convenience of having a toilet/ bathroom attached but trade-off will be the space. I'd choose attached ones over sharing toilet - as those usually ala Hostel style which freaks me out when I need to go in the middle of the night. Probably a little too much horror movie but i just can't help over imagining things shocking.gif
*
It was a Onsen near Takayama. Ryokan style rooms. Nevermind. Will try other rooms and see next time. laugh.gif

If you stay in most international hotel, you will get a big room. As for business hotel like APA, they cater for business people who just need a bed for few hours as they are normally out working or drinking. I have tasted both world. When I travel to Japan for business trip, get to stay at ANA, Hyatt, Hilton. Once I start to work in Japan, the budget for a hotel was 8000yen a day! So mostly is those business hotel.
*
Ana, Hyatt and Hilton will cost average Rm1.2-Rm2k per night. Not for mere mortals I'm afraid. tongue.gif Is Daiwa Roynet considered a good and reputable chain hotel in Japan? I see they have branches in many locations. Rooms are not bad too for the price.

8000 yen per day would get you a nice 2-3 star hotel right in the city centre for 1. nod.gif

i suppose? sorry because it is my first time to osaka
thanks for the information
I haven't travel before to Japan but my friend offered me his pasmo card so if you say can use widely then i think it will not be a problem for me to travel in osaka...thanks so much
*
If you use your friend's pasmo/ suica card, you could save 500 yen deposit for the card. But I would rather buy my own and have my name printed on the card. You could even recover the balance in the card if you happen to accidentally lose it.

I agree. Japan is really addictive. Its safe, people are well mannered. everything is automated, so many new experience to be experienced, great weather and so many new places waiting to be explored.

If you have cash, the rate of your cash is usually better than Big Pay. However if you plan to swipe CC instead, most of the time Big Pay's rate is better than bank's CC. You'll just need to top up cash into your BigPay card like Debit Card.
Something like that, but it follows the MasterCard rate of when BigPay settles payment with merchant, not when you swipe it. For example, you purchase item A today with BP card. What you get is an estimated charges. If BigPay settles the payment with the merchant next day, the actual amount is charged tomorrow based on the next day's exchange rate.
*
Yen rates very high recently. 38.56 today. It was low at 37.2 a month ago. sad.gif

I'd say it's the weakening of Malaysian currency recently. Not just Japanese yen, it's also high for the other rates. If your trip isn't due yet, wait it out biggrin.gif optionally buy a bit and keep to average out (any) potential losses.
*
Stupid of me to hesitate when it was 37.2. I guess the RM is always meant to be like that.

Seaking some opinion. My coming tokyo trip on dec 31 - jan 7. Planning to do a 2d 1n side trip to mt fuji since my sis said want to see fujisan. Maybe going there by bus. 1st i plan go lake kawaguchiko since this area can give good view of fujisan. Then now my sis tiba tiba said hakone also nice. Told me Can go there as well or not... Haiz...

Now i pening d. It is possible to travel 2 area on a 2d 1n side trip? If it very rush & waste time then if to choose 1 of these 2 area for 1st timer mt fuji viewer, which 1 is better?
*
There is actually a lot of ground to cover if you are considering to cover these two areas in two days. Unless you are renting a car, I don't think you would be able to do do this by public transport alone.

Same here. Don't want to risk dropping the card though replaceable especially boarding trains during peak periods.

Going to Japan with parent (elder). Is it good to bring them to Disneyland?
*
Not many rides are suitable for your elderly parents at Disneyland tbh. You parents will have to battle the crazy crowds, expensive entrance fee, outdoor weather for a whole long day waiting for you to queue to go on the rides.

Not sure if I need it but the unlimited ride seems like quite a good deal
We will visit mainly the usual tourist places, might use the Osaka Amazing Pass as it includes the admission fee as well

So if visiting Kyoto/Kobe/Nara/USJ, it is better to use the prepaid card?  My trip is 7 days, 1 day allocated for USJ and 1 day for departure to KUL, so 5 days to spend visiting places around Kansai..
*
If you are planning to go for the main attractions around Osaka, the Amazing Pass offers best value for admission and subway/bus trips. 100% worth it and recommended.

Thanks for the tip.. Will try to plan to go Fukuoka next next round. I heard that the weather down there wont be so cold during winter and there would be less/no snow around that region?

unless u plan for whole day in arashiyama, just go upward. finish visiting Arashiyama area 1st in the morning then hitch the train from arashiyama.
either way require u to walk to train station (the scenic train station <> normal station). it quite a long walk btw.

we din pre-purchase due to sold out (scalper i think) n other site selling overprice, we bought it on Kyoto station early. still managed to get good open-air car seat tho.
*
Huh... can scalp in Japan? Most of the tickets require names on the tickets. So unless Romantic train tickets doesn't require name when purchasing then there is a possibility.

tried to book early, but somehow all slot are taken. other site selling the tix, but kinda overprice (this make me think ppl are scalping)
we choose to buy em on the counter physically as they only limit amount tix for pre-purchase n left some for counter selling.

talking bout tix reselling, u know those cheap/discounted train/shinkansen tix they are selling at small kiosk/shop.
those are working ppl buying those tix, get receipt n claimed company, then they travel by cheap overnight bus instead.  hmm.gif

but then perhaps they update the law n require names, tho last year i still see those type of shop still opening tho.  unsure.gif
*
Ah... yes. Even Disneyland tickets are available at those convenience stores. I didn't bother because it was only slightly cheaper. So safer to buy online or onsite.

Sadly hotel prices in Japan are quite comparable able to hotels in Europe nowadays. If it's during peak periods, hotels could cost more than Europe.i learned this the hard way for a trip to Hokkaido during the "peak of winter", end of January to mid February
