Enjoy super duper boring flight to Sapporo.
LoL.......
*
Between a 1hour 50 mins flight vs a shinkansen + train ride + transfer time for 6-7 hours+-, I will stick with the flight thank you. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Sep 5 2019, 09:14 AM)
What sort of discount coupon are you referring to? I'm sure there's T&C written on the coupon on the redemption - whether 1 coupon per ticket or whether 1 coupon is applicable for all/ total tickets.

"chi-ketto yottsu onegaishimasu." (4 ticket please)
"kono ku-pon wa yon-nin wo tsukatte mo-ii desu ka?" (can this coupon be used for 4 people?)

Beware that when you start speaking Japanese from the get-go, they'll assume you're fluent and then you'll be bombarded with Japanese all the way. While you may be able to ask question in Japanese, you may not understand the reply.

I'll suggest starting the conversation or speaking in English instead, and the Japanese phrase is backup in case they could not understand what you try to say in English.

Use google translator should be the safest. tongue.gif

I see, okay2. Will keep that in mind if im going on winter. But autumn i dont think i need to wear HeatTech kan. haha. So far the forecast never say that it will drop below 10. Just hoping that it's not so windy. My first time driving there, normally just take train. haha.
*
Nolar... You definitely don't need HeatTech in autumm. Just a light jacket in your bagpack would be enough. If you are in the city, it wouldn't be that cold compared to the outskirts.

Works when you wanna ask question, may not work if the other party reply and you wish to know what he/ she says. Unless the other party has Google translate installed  in phone as well tongue.gif
I'd say everyone's cold tolerance is very subjective. It tends to rain during autumn and the temp gets crazy cold during that time or afterwards. Or night time. So if you already have heat tech, just bring along. Judge for yourself then decide whether you'll want to wear the heat tec or not biggrin.gif

They're outskirt, correct, but still major tourist attraction. Nikko is pretty quiet except when you're at the shrine.

Since you're going Nikko, I highly, highly recommend dinner at Hippari Dako lust.gif the tsukune (chicken meatball) and yakitori is sooo good. One of the best I've ever had. Also, Nikko is famous for yuba (beancurd) so you'll see yuba dishes everywhere.

You pass the phone to them to ask them to key in lor.... biggrin.gif

Hahaha! I tried that but even my limited Japanese can tell it isn't translating properly, hence me asking here. Thanks tho.

You're not flying anytime soon right. Can run through the coupon and check for you when I have time.
Provided, you have Japanese keyboard installed. How many people have that ready in their phone when they dont use it at all? wink.gif
Thats right, not going to take up much (if any) space at all biggrin.gif better be ready. For autumn i usually go about with a heat tech inside, and a hoodie on the outside. It was sufficient. Winter is different story haha.

Ahhhhhh i'm not sure if its Halal. Btw for Nikko i saw this for

Actually, I'm quite surprised that Chinese literate people will have no problem reading Japanese as apparently wordings are very similar. Damn, should have paid more attention during mandarin classes last time. laugh.gif

yeah, i think i'll pack 1 heat tech for safety. haha.

that ramen and chips looks sad. haha. i think i'll bring some food from tokyo then, or onigiri always sufficient for me. haha. but thanks for the info though!  biggrin.gif
*
HeatTech got many different types. From Mild warm to High Warm. Better check properly before you buy.

If traveling around kawaguchiko, is car rental recommended? (3x adult)

If you are asking about going around the lake, then taking the bus, walking or cycling would do. But if you plan to do the other attractions, it would be easier to get a car.

This is almost their culture in China. The scalp everything from handphone to train tickets rolleyes.gif . If the prices are not too far away and tickets are hard to get, then have no choice but to get from them.

No choice bro, travelling on budget.
Not enough headcounts to share rental for an AirBnB per night.
Or you have any recommendation for affordable one albeit further but easy access to JR rails?
*
You could try searching hotels around Urayasu area. Halfway btw Tokyo and Haneda.

Btw, nice nick you have there. biggrin.gif

Well yesterday I was at Klook Fest.
1 hr before the USJ b1f1 were 2 other b1f1. The crowd we just so so and I thought surely got change to be top100. But when reach USJ’s turn the crowd Swell up massively. That’s how popular it is.
*
Yeah. USJ is one of the main attraction in Osaka. Personally I still prefer Disneyland and DisneySea over USJ anytime.

Speaking of which, why are these promos focus on USJ? Disneyland& Sea don't have? Or Disney don't allow 3rd parties?
*
You can buy from KKDay or Klook or Disney themselves. Not much difference in price. The crowds are really crazy in Disneyland, everyday. Even before the park opens, you can see scores of people queing up line by line (with tickets) outside already.

Yeah that's what I meant. Even at travel sites like Klook or what, doesn't seem to have crazy discounts or something, like for USJ.

But crowds like this? Everyday? Wow.
*
Yes. Everyday is like day. Try to allocate 2 days if you want to do all the attractions. And go there as early as possible.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Sep 30 2019, 12:09 AM)
Sifu RegentCid, for May 2020 travel to Tokyo, is it too early to book accommodation now? Is it correct to say that some hotels have yet to open reservation yet and thus not listed in booking sites like agoda, etc? Thanks
*
Some hotels will open their reservations early while some may not. Always advisable to book early as once it fills up, prices will definitely go up. Tip. Try booking those pay later or with free cancellation.

QUOTE(L.Torreira @ Sep 30 2019, 01:17 AM)

QUOTE(Omamori_gamaguchi @ Oct 7 2019, 05:09 PM)
You can try walk, Kyoto is surprisingly well planned for pedestrian alongside kamokawa (the long historical river that you see on rightside of the map that links to the former palace, Emperor of Japan use for Hanami back on Edo Period, this was also why so many cherry blossom tree there)

I think you are going on November if I am not mistaken? November month will be having good weather, not too hot and not too cold.

In my Kyoto trip on early March year 2016. It was Plum blossom season, I mostly walk throughout my trip because the view was too good for me to keep walking, not to mention a friendly old lady that works as traffic guide that I met, I even walk from

1) Kyoto University to Arashiyama (12km) I did it, i just treat this as some kind of scenery walking marathon lol. It took me like 4 hours because I also visited Kitano Tenmagu and grabbed some lunch in Kura Sushi near that temple area.

2) Nijo to Kyoto station (4-6km)

3) Kyoto University to Gion and Kiyomizu dera (4km)

AND the best I don't feel tired at all, especially number 2 and number 3.

I really enjoyed walking in Japan that is so pedestrian-friendly, not only Kyoto. I had been walked in Sapporo, Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura and many more, either alone or with some partner. I sincerely hope that Malaysia could become a place that are pedestrian-friendly and well planned, at least a walk-able city is one of the criteria to become first world.

Thanks for reading.
*
Nice writeup. Another option would be to rent a bicycle if you are alone or with a partner who knows how to ride one. Saves a lot of walking time and you can see many things like walking.

Just made my reservation at Unagi Hirokawa in Arashiyama. biggrin.gif
Need to pay 3k yen as deposit and will be used to offset actual bill later, and cheapest Unagi bowl rice is 3.1k yen. laugh.gif Plus, must order one main dish per person. laugh.gif

OK la, since we are leaving Japan already by that time and we don't want to be too cheapskate on food, so splurge a bit and it is a Michelin Star restaurant. tongue.gif
*
I have tried Atsuta Horaiken in Nagoya. Japs and tourists are really passionate about their unagi. People were queing for hours in the cold winter just to get a seat in the restaurant. If you have paid the 3000 yen deposits means a seat is guaranteed and do you still need to queue?

Yeah and I will have Sukiyaki and Okonomiyaki dinner in Kyoto too. laugh.gif
Of course different speciality cuisines whenever I visit different cities. biggrin.gif
Seat is guaranteed and no need to queue like others, maybe need to queue for a while if the previous batch hasn't left. I have booked my preferred time and they will only hold reservation for 20 minutes.

Yes... but I would definitely not drink from the toilet tap from the hotel room.

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Oct 16 2019, 04:27 PM)
After been to Japan, I find good food is a given and may not have to be expensive. A sushi platter for 1200yen is probably low end but it felt much better than anything more expensive I get in Malaysia. I saw unagi bowl don't have to be that expensive but I guess foodie enthusiast can tell the difference between a 1800 yen unagi and a 3k one. As for my commoner tongue, everything was good; from the sushi platter to the Ichiran & Yoshinoya to the obscure mom-and-pop restaurants I went to.

As for cheap food? I find no such thing. A reasonable mean should budget 700~900yen per person, unless willing to live off kombini bento box sets. sweat.gif
*
Yeah.. I agree. I try to look for set lunch instead because lunch deals are usually much cheaper at famous restaurants. At night eat bento boxes or ramen lor. Even that is not cheap now. 1000 yen is almost Rm40. sweat.gif

The last time I was in Tokyo for 8 days I didn't realize I spent almost RM150 on bottled drinking water.  shakehead.gif

Try to look for hotels which provide free beverages / snacks after breakfast. I usually fill up my bottle either during breakfast or at snack bars provided by hotels. tongue.gif tongue.gif

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Oct 16 2019, 05:14 PM)
Basic tonkotsu ramen or gyuudon at restaurants is good enough dy. At most places cost 550-750 yen. Set meals -I find- are more for big eaters or those wanting to try the side dishes.

But yeah, our RM is getting worse. Now waiting for yen to appreciate further before I change out my remainder notes. Haha!
*
Yoshinova or Matsuya are the cheap/ value eats. Some of their branches even provide free parking as well. But if you eat this regularly during your trip, you will get tired eating the same thing over and over again. tongue.gif
