Taking train is a hassle especially for first timer. Hence , here are the small tips for you:

For those who wondering about 24 hour, 48 hours, and 72 hours Tokyo Metro Subway pass. Yes, it is only covered Toei & Tokyo Subway. If you wondering what is Toei & Tokyo Subway, here is the example, please look for this two logo:

user posted image

Hence, you can take the train with either one of these logo, you can see the logo easily via google map.

These are the area (Yes! Those colorful 13 types of lines) that covered by the pass:

user posted image

Technically, this pass covers many popular area in Tokyo except:

1) Odaiba (where you need to take yurikamome line from Shimbashi station)
2) Kichijoji (need take JR or Keio Inokashira line from Shibuya)
3) Jiyugaoka (Tokyu Toyoko line from Shibuya)
4) Tokyo Disneyland (JR keiyo line from tokyo station to Maihama station)
Note: If you are cheapskate, you can save 60 yen if transfer from Shin Kiba station but for me time are more important during travel so I wouldn't do that haha!
Hopefully it helps! Thanks for reading! if I have time, I shall update more soon hehe.
*
many here have said that this subway pass isn't worth it because u need to use like over 3 times in order for it to break even
and it doesn't even cover all the line in tokyo
so it's very hard to break even or make it worth it

Thanks buddy, I'll take a look on these places to decide which is best for my travel plan..  biggrin.gif

By the way guys, what is the best mode of transport to go Kyoto from KIX Airport? As I will be arriving at KIX around 930pm..  hmm.gif
*
there are only 2 ways going there
1 by haruka express, another by airport limousine bus
based on my research(cuz i'm going for this route as well)
if u already possess an IC card and do not plan to get another IC card
the haruka express is very expensive on it's own, it is only when u get the ICOCA combo thn it's worth it

i end up decide to go for the airport limousine bus, it's cheaper @ 2550 yen and it operates until midnight

for this i think is better you check where you wanna go within that day with google map and see the route.

for my case, i also thought that subway pass is a waste, but after i re-check my entire itinerary again, apparently i'll use more than 500yen a day for transportation (which better to purchase 3-day subway pass for 1500yen for 3 days)

you can see my method here, upon listing down the locations and how to go to each locations, i roughly estimated my travelling expenses (for estimation and budgetting purpose): Tokyo Trip Itinerary 2019 - GDrive
*
we all use more than that in a day for sure
but the thing here is, that pass only covers 2 line out of the multiple lines in tokyo
which is why for many of us, it's not worth it

Hi all sifu,

I'm going to Osaka in mid July for concert and this is my first time travelling to Osaka alone. I have some questions as below with my itinerary

11th - arrival 6am, free and easy
12th - free and easy
13th & 14th - concert day
15th - back to malaysia

1) is there any recommended stay near Osakajo hall? I heard airbnb is prohibited in Japan?
2) aware there are lots subway pass but since my stay is short, is it good for me to get the pass to move around in Osaka? I'm planning to visit Kyoto since it is near and short travel time.
3) any website or apps recommendation for train map? It is much more complicated compared to korea imo
4) is language barrier will make my trip difficult? example asking for directions etc
*
1. airbnb is legal in japan as long as it has a license(will mention inside the airbnb website)
2. not sure, too many for osaka/kyoto
3. google maps or hyperdia.com for train, it will tell u which platform and what time it will depart
4. if u have google maps, it's much easier to navigate, it will direct to to 3rd floor if that shop is located at 3rd floor

Hello dear forumers, I am currently planning a 9D8N trip from Christmas Eve until New Year end of this year. I wanted to seek opinion if the itinerary is viable.

** If I buy whole Japan Rail Pass, for the places I am going to, can it be used? Or I will have to buy other metro line's ticket as well?
** Is a samurai WIFI egg enough for 4 person throughout the trip and Japan?
**Is the flow of the trip ok? Anywhere seems too packed/ impossible?
**For accomodation, is it wise to just stay at one place and use the metro to get around? Tokyo (2 Nights) Osaka (4 nights) and Hokkaido (2 nights)

Would Like to have some opinion from fellow forumers, greatly appreciate any feedbacks, THANKS! cheers.gif

i don't think it's a good idea to jump multiple location within 9 days
1. u won't be able to experience fully of 1 place
2. spend too much time on transport instead of exploring
3. cost way too much(JR pass)
4. basically just touch & go(pointless)
why not just stay the whole period in tokyo?
or split half and half with tokyo and osaka/kyoto and discard hokkaido

I have the same thoughts too last time, tried to cover Tokyo and also Kansai area in one trip but realised its too rushing. Now in the midst of arranging my itinerary in Osaka (5 nights) and Kyoto (7 nights).

Agree with the touch n go, some places might really take time to explore like dotonburi, shinsaibashi and shinsekai. In kyoto, I would really like to take my time to wander the streets of Gion; Hanamokoji Dori, Ninenzaka & Sanenzaka, Gion Shirakawa and the nearby Yasaka Shrine. Kiyomizudera is nearby too but I read its still under construction so I might give this a miss..

Ohh not to mention the beautiful Pontocho Alley!
*
kiyomizudera is under renovation on the outside, from what i read, still can enter
i'll still be going on oct

Osaka anyday also crowded with chinese tourist d bcox is most nearest city to china. They mostly at namba area due to sapu cosmetics & drugs. I been to tokyo & sapporo in October before. Yes chinese crowd is a lot but still ok la... Not like those zerg rush crowd. If i not mistaken, October is low peak period in japan so hotel tend to be cheaper compare with other months.
*
not really, based on airbnb
somehow it mentioned it's peak period during the period i'm visiting
those cheaper airbnb are running out quickly

Yeah, it's just 20-30 minutes away, they are in the same region. Some people stay in Osaka to explore Kyoto even.
*
kyoto - osaka 1 way is RM56
if travel with more than 2 people, thn better stay in kyoto to explore kyoto
the transportation cost both way everyday doesn't justify the difference in accommodation price

I paid RM22 only, Kyoto - Osaka. 3 stops, 30 minutes.

I agree it's better to stay in Kyoto to explore Kyoto, just sharing that some people commute from Osaka to explore Kyoto to give reader more option.
*
my bad, i was wrong
i confuse with RM56 and 560 yen

and the bad part is there are no direct route from kyoto to namba which most people will stay
so that will add extra cost and time for the commute

QUOTE(LinkZ @ Jun 5 2019, 10:18 PM)
Hi friends, I will be going to Osaka -> Kyoto -> Tokyo this coming mid November for 17 days. I have been doing some homework over the internet reading reviews and etc but could not decide where to best stay in Osaka and Kyoto. Do you mind to help me recommend some hotels or area to focus on? I read "Minami" in Osaka is a good place to stay due its proximity to Dotonbori and other shopping/nightlife scenes. I am also planning to visit Nara while I am in Osaka but I have some doubts as I'm not too sure if these areas suggested are convenient for me to travel to Nara via Train/Mrt.

Not forgetting, I will be bringing my family with me, a total of 4 of us, all adults.

Tentative
Osaka (5 days 4 nights) 1 night will be wasted as I will reaching at around 9.20pm.
Kyoto (3 days 2 nights)
Tokyo (9 days 8 nights) Plan to travel to either Hakone or Chureito Temple for a day. Which is better?

Thanks all for your advises in advance!
*
best place to stay in kyoto really depends
u can google "best place to stay in kyoto" and decide yourself, there is a few area to choose from...depends which one u priortise
i chose to stay near kyoto station area for ease of transportation instead

for osaka, most tourist will stay in namba area so that they're near most station and most tourist attraction such as dotonbori, shinsaibasi, nipponbashi and kuromon market

for nara, u can try do it from kyoto actually
fushimi inari >> uji >> nara...it's all within the same JR line

The last Airbnb I stayed at Kawaguchiko last Nov did not require us to produce our passports during check-in. Not sure if it has changed this year or not.
*
i ask because of all the rooms i viewed in airbnb
the license number differ from each other..some are like special economic area XXX-XXXX....thn some are like M24508769
the accommodation i booked in kyoto require passport check in, did it online
but the one i booked in osaka did not mention anything about it at all

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Jun 17 2019, 05:22 PM)
Looking at your arrival time, it must be AA arriving at Haneda at 10:30 pm. My same flight last 2 weeks ago touched down at around 10:15pm. By the time we collected our luggage and pass immigration, it was already 10:50 (considered quite fast compared to my previous time). You have limited time to go to the Bus Counter right in front of the arrival area, buy your limousine bus tickets, drag your luggage down to 1F (arrival is on 2F) through the lift and wait for the last limousine bus to the city which departs at 11:20. If you don't want to rent a hotel for the night, you could ride down to Shinjuku and pay to use one of the manga cafes there to spend the night. I have never tried this before, but if anyone who tried before could enlighten you here. Or you could even rent capsule hotels which are much cheaper than regular hotels.
*
10.50PM
plenty of time, that's not even the last train departing from airport yet
if limousine bus, it operates until 2AM also got bus(depending where u wanted to go)

Need to factor in the queues at immigration counter and wait time at conveyor belt
Limousine bus expensive...
*
well, arrival like that...u got no choice since u already saved money on the flight
if the flight no delay, u should be able to make it to the last or 2nd last train(like i did)
but if flight delay, there is always airport limousine bus that operate until 2AM

but whether or not it's worth to book the accommodation is up to individuals

Hi guys, i am going to Osaka with my wife
Any budget hotel/motel recommended for a week stay? No need fancy hotel as long have bathroom ok already..
Just to have a proper bath+sleep..

Is kyoto a must to visit? We plan to go USJ but no other plan than that.. quite clueless about Japan since this is our first time going there..
*
if u don't mind sharing toilet, can search for hostel
or can try luck on airbnb, bear in mind, airbnb in japan now is subjected to hotel tax
so it's not gonna be cheap but the conveniences of having a washer is > hotel

kyoto after i've done some research is a must visit compared to osaka, more things to see and visit in kyoto than osaka
but the accommodation in kyoto is alot more expensive
u can choose to back and forth everyday from osaka but it's gonna waste some time

QUOTE(khan @ Jun 21 2019, 01:00 PM)
Guys, i can't find any other thread about this so i'm just gonna ask here.

i'm trying to rent a portable wifi for my Japan trip (via Klook) so the rental day will count by Departure day until Arrival day.
The thing is that my departure time is on 11 Sep 12:30am, so which mean i can only pick up the device on 11 Sep 12:00am or i can actually pick up a few hours before .e.g 10 Sep 11:00pm?

just worry i might not able to make it to the Gate if i only picking up my device on 12:00am

thanks.
*
12.30AM flight, u should already starting to enter the departure gate by 11.30AM already
u have to pickup earlier(if possible)
and u can set when are u going to pick it up and drop it off

whatever time u pick it up, they already counted as 1 day, it makes no difference the time u pick it up
