QUOTE(cat2 @ Jun 27 2019, 03:33 PM) hi guys want to ask if any of you recently travel to osaka? I want to purchase the icoca card through klook but it is only able for collection for Osaka International Airport...it is not KIX airport right? I mean Osaka airport and KIX are 2 different airport? u don't need to pre-purchase your ICOCA card also known as IC cardif it is 2 different airport, may I know if the counter to purchase for ICOCA card still available in KIX as previously read said counter had closed? need some clarification...thanks advance if you've traveled to japan before and have any IC card like pasmo or suica card, they all can be used nationwide in japan(no need to purchase ICOCA) and u don't need to go counter to buy ICOCA, can purchase via machine |

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Jul 3 2019, 10:53 AM) the rate today is still not as high as 3 years ago when i go to tokyo, that time is 39.XXchange like 7k back when it was 37.XX and i've just changed 3k last saturday(4 days ago) @ 38.39 my advice would be to change before october from october, yen won't drop anymore QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Jul 3 2019, 11:00 AM) I'd say it's the weakening of Malaysian currency recently. Not just Japanese yen, it's also high for the other rates. If your trip isn't due yet, wait it out it's not MYR's problemyen went up due to the trade war, it's only recently dropped abit korean won on the other hand has been dropping....now the rate is 3.5X which i'm planning to change soon for my feb trip This post has been edited by MR_alien: Jul 3 2019, 02:44 PM |

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Jul 3 2019, 04:00 PM) Sad to say few other countries' rate is higher than usual a including Baht, Dong (as complained by a colleague) etc. Our currency isn't strong at the moment as well. i'm planning to change more than what i expect to change actually(for holding purposes)True on the yen, so better change within the next 1-2 months when rate is decent. Same like Fyonne, I've experienced 39+ and 40 before too because i know after oct, it won't go down anymore due to GST hike and olympic |

QUOTE(cat2 @ Jul 3 2019, 04:27 PM) as I checked and some other readers here stated that all IC card can be use across the whole Japan? I know Osaka use ICOCA, so if anyone can clarify again to me. of course I don't mind to purchase a card at airport upon arrival. I'm planning to take the normal nankai rapid train to depart from airport. IC card has been nationalizedthe only thing what IC u use is your origin when u use PASMO or suica, they would know u came from tokyo same as kitaca for hokkaido https://insideosaka.com/prepaid-cards-icoca-suica-and-pasmo/ |

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Jul 3 2019, 05:42 PM) Really? So PASMO can be utilized in Kansai region as well? Previously you'll need to use the local region's assigned card based on what regendCID told in many thread agoit's been nationalize long ago, he even has a collection of every IC card of every region 1 IC card can be used nationwide now but it does reveal where u come from |

QUOTE(FreedomSeeker @ Jul 4 2019, 08:31 PM) Seaking some opinion. My coming tokyo trip on dec 31 - jan 7. Planning to do a 2d 1n side trip to mt fuji since my sis said want to see fujisan. Maybe going there by bus. 1st i plan go lake kawaguchiko since this area can give good view of fujisan. Then now my sis tiba tiba said hakone also nice. Told me Can go there as well or not... Haiz... hakone is niceNow i pening d. It is possible to travel 2 area on a 2d 1n side trip? If it very rush & waste time then if to choose 1 of these 2 area for 1st timer mt fuji viewer, which 1 is better? but if your objective is to spot fujisan thn i recommend u to skip hakone to spot fujisan in hakone at that period of time you're going is almost impossible i went to tokyo and visited hakone 3 years ago on early january, it was foggy and raining u need clear skies to spot fujisan from hakone but if u ask me is it worth to visit hakone, i would say yes but don't expect to spot fujisan there at that period |

QUOTE(kapalterbang_737 @ Jul 10 2019, 06:51 AM) Hi, I have decided to go to Osaka, and will cover Kyoto, Nara, and probably Kobe as well i don't think u can purchase them or pre-purchase them1) For train pass, where is the best place to purchase them after I arrive there? Plan go get the 4-days pass... Currently I have PASMO card (given by my bro who went there in January) and it works like touch n go card right? 2) Any telco provider recommended for a week usage there? Just need to have internet data to browse Google maps, FB etc.. and where can i purchase them Thanks because the moment u arrive(i assume u use airasia), all the counters will be closed and depending where would u go 1st if you're heading to osaka 1st, thn the pass u can purchase will only be those that are able to pickup at osaka, not at airport if you're heading to kyoto 1st, u can actually buy the bus pass(provided u take enough bus ride each day) but you'll need to pick it up at the kyoto tourist information center(which have a limited operating hour) so for me, i did not have any plan of purchasing any pass at all simply because i can't even pick it up at any time of my trip |

QUOTE(kapalterbang_737 @ Jul 10 2019, 05:29 PM) Hi thanks, if u arrived at that time thn should be no problem picking those pass up at the airportMy flight arriving at 08.45am in KIX, so should be able to purchase right? I am torn between: 1) JR West Kansai Area Pass (4 days ¥6500) - from what I understand, I can use this pass from airport to board 'Haruka' train to Namba, which i think is very convenient. I read that JR also has quite a wide network station so it will be much easier for first timer like me, and it covers some Rapid line too (not sure what tis is) 2) Kansai Thru Pass (3 days ¥5200) - this pass looks like it covers most of the rail line in Osaka, except for JR line. However it only cover for 3 days and I do not want to fork extra for another day pass. Will this pass can be use to & from KIX too? Or i will need to board other train to Namba? but since i can't have any pass, i end up did not research too much on the pass partly because it's too many as well the most famous i saw or being mentioned here is the osaka amazing pass instead |

going to arashiyama on 5th Oct
planned to take the sagano scenic train from kameoka station to arashiyama station instead(downward) found out that period(1st oct to 7th oct) is a china national day holiday want to ask, need to pre-purchase ticket for that particular train ride or able to purchase on site? based on their website, seem like tickets of downward is more famous than upward This post has been edited by MR_alien: Jul 18 2019, 10:50 AM |

QUOTE(Fyonne @ Jul 18 2019, 10:42 AM) unless u plan for whole day in arashiyama, just go upward. finish visiting Arashiyama area 1st in the morning then hitch the train from arashiyama. i don't plan whole day in arashiyamaeither way require u to walk to train station (the scenic train station <> normal station). it quite a long walk btw. we din pre-purchase due to sold out (scalper i think) n other site selling overprice, we bought it on Kyoto station early. still managed to get good open-air car seat tho. my plan is actually to take JR from kyoto station to umahori station thn from scenic train from kameoka station to arashiyama station after done with arashiyama thn take the bus from arashiyama to kinkakuji but from their website, the downward is more famous than upward...the earliest 9.30AM train often labelled "X" which is sold out because if need to pre-purchase, i might skip the scenic train completely because no time in my schedule to pick up since i will be doing it on my 3rd day in JP and the office only opens from 10AM-6PM |

QUOTE(Fyonne @ Jul 18 2019, 11:56 AM) u dont need to pre-purchase, u can buy it few day early or when u arrived at kyoto station. if there is no good time slot, just give it up. first day arrive kyoto prolly near or is midnight alreadybe it upward or downward, whichever is fine. i choose upward since my plan to visit arashiyama early. i did same trip like urs. Arashiyama > sagano scenic train then return n head to Kinkakuji by bus. 2nd say hectic day for kiyomizudera till nishiki market 3rd day is arashiyama so i don't think i would be able to buy or pickup the ticket(if i even pre-purchase) now is prolly check 1 night before if there is still ticket to decide to go umahori or just arashiyama and skip the train initially is arashiyama thn sagano train to kameoka thn boat trip back but after knowing the price of the boat trip, had to change to current plan |

QUOTE(Like a Bause @ Jul 18 2019, 02:42 PM) i believe other than the train and boat ride.. the Arashiyama town itself is beautiful enough for you to explore.. it's just something to add in while i'm thereand only the train ride attracts me, the boat ride is way too expensive yes, if end up sold out, will take the train straight to arashiyama instead |
