Not sure if robot restaurant is such a good idea for 4 year old kid. Or kabukicho for that matter cos many of the eateries will be cramped, noisy, smoky izakayas. |

QUOTE(Timberwolf83 @ Mar 12 2019, 02:17 PM) Sapporo Pros: The rest of your pros and cons not really relevant, so just concentrate on these few. Osaka / Kyoto / Nara / Kobe area tends to be more cultural Japan (see temples, etc). Whichever you choose depends on these, end of the day we also can't decide for you.3. A lot of nature site seeing 4. Maybe lucky to enjoy snow Sapporo Cons: 3. Public transport may not be as accessible as Osaka Osaka Pros: 2. Public transport is more accessible. 3. Huge aquarium park which is one of the largest in the world. For activities for your kid, Nara has deer walking around the temple and town area (not sure if he or she too young to appreciate) ![]() This post has been edited by deodorant: Mar 12 2019, 06:45 PM |

Waliuuu Last week of December is usually quite safe for skiing, however there is a higher chance of the resorts not being fully open (ie only some of the trails are open) and/or the snow is man-made instead of natural.
PCLover2010 Depends on your travel style. If you're going to go whack kaiseki and omakase sushi every day then obviously not enough cos one meal alone can go up to 30k+ yen. On the other hand if you every day konbini and yoshinoya then 2k a day also can 'survive.' This post has been edited by deodorant: Mar 18 2019, 11:40 AM |

ntdote Disney better in weekdays for less crowd, no? Also, Disneyland would be good for the 4 year old but Disneysea a bit geared towards older kids and adults. If you and wife are theme park fans then can still go of course.
Anyway if you decide to shift days around make sure you check imperial gardens cos they close on certain days of the week (Monday I think but I'm too lazy to look it up). |

Hope none of you travel plans during the week after golden week lol "Most Japanese people typically only have four or five days off during Golden Week, but this year everyone gets to enjoy a whopping 10-day vacation from April 27 to May 6." QUOTE(musteng @ Apr 26 2019, 05:08 PM) What is the Chop by the way? Oops lol. QUOTE Confirm plus Chop Singlish Shortened from "confirm plus guarantee got chop" To mean that you are extremely sure of something (derives from National Service/Military situations where one needs to be absolutely sure about something; guarantee got chop denotes that the action and whatever subsequent paperwork, if any, will be approved). Basically "officially sanctioned." |

Blofeld Nagano Niigata Yamagata areas are all 3hrs ish from Tokyo and have plenty of snow activities for non skiiers for a short 2 or 3 day jaunt.
Yamagata area you can go see the fox village and go to zao onsen to see the snow monsters. On your way back stop over for day onsen at kaminoyama onsen. http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2018/02/z...-itinerary.html Alternately go Nagano Niigata area to check out the snow monkeys. And stay overnight at an onsen town up in the mountains to walk around in the snow. http://look-see-eat.blogspot.com/2016/02/n...awara-plum.html If you don't want to travel so far then from Tokyo there are many places nearby that are day trippable, for example mt fuji area, gala yuzawa area, etc. |

QUOTE(Waliuuu @ May 15 2019, 03:12 PM) Sorry.. I actually meant that i will skip some places in Tokyo because we traveled there before. One more is that we have never experienced snowing andski-ing before so we are really looking forward for the skiing experience.. Hence Nagano.. If Hokkaido is not an option .. I'd do 3 nights in a nagano area ski resort. Travel from Tokyo to nagano the previous afternoon then stay overnight so that you can be up early to settle all the lessons, gear rental etc. Ski the whole day at least. Next day you can do another full day OR do half day ski and take the 2nd half to visit the snow monkeys. |

QUOTE(NightHeart @ May 24 2019, 09:23 PM) Anyway for those who planning to visit Kuromon Market. Among the many "cook as you pick" seafood sellers, there's 1 that is run by PRC. You may want to avoid that shop. IMO they serve overpriced sub-quality food. Unless they speak to you in mandarin, how would you even know if they are PRC 😂 |

QUOTE(SkyHermit @ Jun 7 2019, 04:02 PM) Even the Airasia staff doesnt know why Could be seasonal demand. Singapore Airlines and I think Scoot do SIN-CTS direct flights only a few months a year for the winter ski season, but all other months tarak. Could be the same for AA too? |

QUOTE(madman.com @ Jun 11 2019, 04:04 PM) i think japan their highest humidity not even reach our average humidity here in msia Instead of thinking, you could have googled and got the answer that August 2018 Tokyo average humidity was 77% vs KL 72%. Even max humidity Tokyo was higher (100% vs 94%) My first trip to Japan was in August, actually the heat and humidity isn't THAT bad, it's still bearable although you need to prepare to be quite sweaty and sticky if you're doing anything outdoors. But on the flip side it is peach season and super sweet super juicy cold peaches on a hot summer day is amazing. Also got super yosakoi dance festival if your travel dates match. QUOTE(SkyHermit @ Jun 10 2019, 12:04 PM) You could be right about the seasonal demand but I think August is a summer holiday in Japan and the famous Lavender in Hokkaido is also available viewing for July and August only so I do not see any reason why Airasia decides not to have flights in August I am not in the airline industry so I don't have data available, but I suspect the demand is just not sufficient. Anecdotally speaking, I have a LOT of SG-based friends who fly to hokkaido for winter every single year. The number of ppl I know who fly there for flower season is far, far lower. |

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Jun 21 2019, 09:29 AM) I was in Tokyo during Raya and the weather was still cool and you would need a sweater sometimes. Tsuyu though would be a major inconvenience for travellers though. Tokyo Olympics is late July to mid August leh. I've been to Tokyo in August, every single day come back to hotel shirt confirm either damp from sweat, or smelly from evaporated / dried sweat 💦 |

QUOTE(TOMEI-R @ Jun 28 2019, 12:27 PM) The thin mattress is not very everybody though. Futon during winter no problem lah, I go ski'ing always sleep in JP style rooms with futons, the blanket is so thick and plush, no problem. But you're right that the thin mattress ... especially as I grow older ... I start to be less and less entranced with the 'culture' and more and more wishing for a proper comfortable mattress |
