wth? TM still stuck in 2000s?

I can find a few play tv but they all don't look like from TM.

If I go the playtv@unifi page it says not available in my region
*

From what I see, TM don't feel like hire someone to redesign and support their unifi playTV to be able to play on modern browsers like Chrome and Firefox on desktop platform.
And back in those days, they use the "programming stuff" or "online platform" that only the lousy Internet Explorer can support.

Plus, not many people pay attention to Unifi playTV and use it to watch on PC also.
Due to that, this discourages them to modernise the platform by making it able to support on other browsers like Chrome and Firefox.
They rather focus on creating a mobile app for that, and literally just "abandon" the desktop/web platform, since majority of the people nowadays use phone more than computer.

This is just my hypothesis.

QUOTE(taqu @ Jan 15 2020, 09:53 AM)
From the FAQ, looks like the new STB no longer needs VLAN 600 to run. That's good news 👍

OTOH I guess the new STB is actually a pretty powerful Android 9 TV box running PlayTV app. If it's the same app, some channels are still missing subtitles.

I'll wait and see first 🤗
*
QUOTE(Feliex @ Jan 15 2020, 12:24 PM)
I no think so this is a good news. Since VLAN 600 is dedicated bandwidth for unifi channel & did not mix with our main bandwidth.
*

To some extent, if it's true that the new Unifi Plus Box no longer uses VLAN 600, then it's a good news.
I know VLAN can have dedicated bandwidth just for Unifi IPTV service, but at the same time, it causes lots of complicated configuration on the router and their side just to be able to use Unifi TV service.
After all, now Unifi has 100Mbps, 300Mbps.... up to 800Mbps speeds, so in my opinion, don't have that VLAN also never mind.

Talking about "mixing" your main Internet speed package, theoretically in my opinion, TM's side can put an exception on bandwidth utilisation on Unifi TV service, so that it won't slow down your main Internet bandwidth whenever you watch Unifi TV.
After all, the fibre cable that enters to your home can actually support more than 1Gbps. It only up to the ISP like TM, whether they wanna provide you that kind of speeds or not.
Let say you subscribed to 100Mbps, and now while you download/upload stuff and it fully utilises 100Mbps, you also watch a UHD channel on Unifi TV (e.g. Love Nature 4K),
Even if you combine both, it's still a lot more unutilised bandwidth remaining that the fibre cable can handle.

If Unifi TV are confident that its Unifi TV streaming service can be very stable even without VLAN (you could say, as stable as similar like Netflix), then it's fine actually...

This is kinda similar like what Astro Go is doing. OTT platform seem less complicated than IPTV platform, don't you think?

So if it's true that if Unifi TV don't uses VLAN, hmm, does it mean Unifi TV service:
-can easily access to Unifi TV service even on WiFi connection, similar like what Streamyx customer enjoy previously?
-can be accessed through other ISPs such as Maxis Fibre, TIME Fibre, and even 4G, 5G cellular, since it can work even without VLAN?
-Unifi TV is in transition to OTT platform, and slowly moving away from IPTV platform?
-sooner or later, no more having that "LAN 4 port" restriction, hence user can connect to any LAN ports on the router?
-will work just fine either on WiFi or LAN connection. So if customer worry it'll slow down the overall WiFi speed, customer can always go for LAN cable connection just like now...?

If you pay close attention enough, nowadays Astro don't advertise much on their Astro IPTV service, but more focused on "Astro & Broadband" offerings.
Hmm, IPTV is slowly becoming a dying trend/sunset technology in Malaysia, and moving towards OTT platform? hmm.gif

This issues had been plague Unifi tv since the begining of it existence.. they are not following Malaysia/UK 25fps, 1080i standard. the broadcast equipment they are using is from Huawei which is using China DTMB standards. which is why there is audio/video sync issues since the source operator are broadcast in region specific standard and unifi is using another region broadcast standard.

on certain box turning on 1080p/24hz does help a little with audio/video sync issue.
*

Audio/video sync issue are likely caused by TM's streaming side or the STB software have some software bugs/glitches.
There's nothing got to do with China's DTMB or whatsoever la... Not even related also.

Well, even you pay the 30 ringgit for Ultimate Pack, it's still cheaper than Astro. 😅 Also, it's a way of maintaining their revenue since they don't offer commercial ads and the price of carrying FOX Movies is way expensive than what most people think.
*

Unifi TV only slot in their own ads, and does not sell their airtime to advertisers? Is it applies to all channels?

Hi woundxp, thanks for the mod apk.
I also tried to install the APK onto Bluestacks cuz I wanna use Unifi playTV app on my computer.

Install is successful, app can be launched, but error message 01999 appears whenever watching any live TV channels.

Can select, but can't play (same 01999 error).

Hope you could do something about this...
It will be great if there's a way to somehow optimise the app for Bluestacks as well.
Thanks a lot notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

how to watch unifi playtv via laptop/desktop?
*
QUOTE(doubleM2 @ Jul 23 2020, 11:50 PM)
It's currently not accessible via Windows PC & macOS as unifi playTV only supports streaming thru iOS & Android smartphones and tablets, and Android TV.

Before the overhaul change of the UI in Nov 2019, unifi playTV was accessible on PC via Internet Explorer 11.
*

Officially, yes it's not available to access on Windows PC.

As a workaround, you can watch unifi playTV app on computer (not unifi TV app for Android TV one) by using Android emulator, Bluestacks.
Upon set up Bluestacks, login to your Google Account (Gmail) as usual, and download unifi playTV app on Google Play Store inside the Bluestacks Android emulator.

It is somehow improper to use Android emulator for unifi playTV app, but technically it is possible.
If the specs of your computer/laptop isn't powerful enough, or doesn't support hardware virtualisation technology (VT), running Bluestacks may be quite a struggle as the overall app will be very lag.

You can't stream any content on Unifi playTV from a web browser, especially on a computer.
It is supported only on smart devices (iOS and Android) for now, and we don't know why, and we don't expect it to be made available to view on PC anytime soon either.

To use Unifi playTV on a computer, install Bluestacks and refer to this post:

Really disappoint to read this update. They forcefully made us to pay the aneka package, and start removing the channels one by one. zzzz..

Yet, when we ask them to reduce price for the RM129/100MBps package, for removing that freaking aneka package, the said all must inclusive laa... apa laa...

So UNFAIR.. but thats TM we know all these while... not suprise punnn...  cry.gif  cry.gif
*

It's just that the 3 channels will no longer be available on unifi playTV app only. You can still watch it on unifi TV box.

I think, to remove Unifi TV packs, there's a 12 months contract or something.... Wait till you finish the contract then...

I found the culprit, it was my tv hdmi port somehow problem cannot broadcast in HD. Unifi white stb dont show any warning msg for this issue but my njoi decoder showing " HDCP not supported " msg when i view HD channel but no picture, just audio.

Solution, buy hdmi splitter ( RM 30 ) with HDCP support / compliant then i got back my HD resolution when view unifi tv and njoi.

I almost wanna buy new tv for this issue and luckily can be fixed by bypass hdmi through hdmi splitter. Save me few hundreds RM from buying new tv.
*

Your TV model too old or what? How come couldn't support HDCP? hmm.gif
By any chance, have you tried change to other HDMI cable/ports?

I'm not sure whether this supports HDCP 2.2 or not...
Cuz for Astro's Ultra Box, your TV (or HDMI splitter) must support HDCP 2.2, otherwise this error message will appear whenever you tune to Astro's UHD channels:
user posted image
You can still watch SD and HD channels as usual as long your TV or HDMI splitter supports/complies the previous versions of HDCP.

If possible, look for HDMI splitter that supports HDCP 2.2 so that you won't face HDCP error conflicts when you wish to watch protected UHD content.
If anyone here can confirm which HDMI splitter can support (in terms of bypass/strips/remove) HDCP 2.2, please show us the HDMI splitter here. Cuz I'm thinking of buying one too sweat.gif

Want to ask.  Njoi got apk which can install on tvbox?

Thks.

Yes. You are in the wrong thread tongue.gif
If you're referring to the Njoi Now app, it has already been discontinued on 30 Sept 2019.

Therefore, Njoi users are not entitled to enjoy any kinds of online video streaming services from Astro. Only satellite TV and nothing else.
Astro Go is available for Astro customers ONLY.

Any further questions about Njoi, refer to this thread:

Alternatively, you can use Android emulator software like Bluestacks, to run Android app on PC.
And that's how you could enjoy unifi playTV on PC for the time being.
