I just encountered a case today where it happened in the afternoon. The case goes like this:

I am x student from university. It was after work I ordered a Grab car to go back to my campus. I selected x University as the destination. When the driver arrived at the campus, I directed him to go to the hostel area. The fee was RM14 and I was charged with another additional RM2, so total RM16. I reported to Grab asking why they charged me additional RM2. After clarification, Grab says the driver reported that I changed my drop-off destination. Here is the argument:

- My destination was x university. The drop off point is at the hostel which is also in the university. Driver says I changed drop off point. I understand on the map it was marked at the uni gate. Other selection was available as well eg. canteen, gym, library....but none was hostel. If I selected library for example, which is closer to the hostel, the driver will still report I changed drop off destination.

- Grab blamed me for not selecting the proper drop-off point and I replied the drop-pff point was unavailable. So supposingly it is their fault not having the selection and charge me for their mistake.

- The time to reach between main gate and hostel is so near. I have encountered many drivers who don't kira the mile.

Dear Grab, thanks for letting me down so I can finally decide to uninstall your app.

Are u guys an educated College / University / tertiary level students or still in secondary school?

If u guys can't pin point exact location, there are a special column which calls REMARKS column

The REMARKS column are for u to direct the driver to your exact location if the system doesn't have your so called Hostel area

Just write properly on the column
"Kindly pick me up at Hostel no 12*

Are you guys trying to play funny with the drivers ?
Or are u guys illerate not to understand properly how the Grab request function works and yet to totally blame all wrongdoing to the drivers?

^^^^ This says it all!

Having tertiary education meant that you're at least educated/smart enough to learn how to use a simple app properly...

Summore TS doesn't even want to disclose his/her uni name to avoid revealing the actual distance between the uni gate and the hostel, which kinda fuels the suspicion that TS actually knew about it and could've done it deliberately to save the RM2.

if the time to reach the main gate from the hostel is SO near then why on earth you can't walk to the main gate and wait there ?? Is the grab driver an ex-student of your uni to know where the fxxx is the hostel, canteen, toilets and classrooms. this is the attitude with uni/college students i have serviced them in inti, nilai and manipal hundreds of times and i am speaking from experience that these students are so lazy to walk to main gate and have attitude because they aren't working to earn their money and its afterall their parents money. These people should be sent to work first ,earn their dime and use it to study in college then they will learn their lesson

Dont talk kok la

Grab only charges u rm2 if u initiate the change in dropoff in your own phone.

The driver cant charge u rm2 extra even if he drops u off at a different drop off point.

Unless he keyed in the rm2 under toll charges

U sendiri cari pasal with Grab. You caused the mistake in the first place. If 'hostel' pin is not available, you can jolly well decide to continue using grab or otherwise. Don't blame grab nor the poor driver for everything. Grab can't pin everything to your convenience like "under the coconut tree' , 'next to the garbage bin' ' infront of the men's toilet' etc. And you try to cause trouble for the driver which may cause him to lose his registration with Grab , just because of your blardy RM2.

I said Sunway Pyramid. Fucker brought me to some housing area near Sunway and told me that I'd only uttered the word "Sunway", so he decided to drop me anywhere in Sunway.

I literally scolded him by asking him to check the freaking address that I have input when I initially asked for Grab. Such BS.

Here is my rider's (presumably) worst Grab experience, for your reading pleasure. I think TS' extra RM2 charge "worst experience" pales in comparison to this. :-)

A few years ago, at about 8pm one day, I got a job to pick up someone at Ampang Koreatown and send to Sri Emas condo, which is behind Swiss Garden Hotel, Jalan Pudu.

When I reached pick up point, I saw that the person who placed the Grab booking was a Korean man, presumably proprietor of a Korean shop there. He booked for his customer, a Korean woman with two young children.

When they are seated, I confirmed with her the drop off point Sri Emas condo. She nodded her head. So I set Waze and off I drove.

Several minutes later, in halting English, she asked if I knew how to go. I replied that I didn't, but don't worry, I have Waze to show me the way. And I continued driving.

A short while later, she again asked me if I'm going the right way. I replied I'm following the route shown on Waze.

Again shortly after, she interrupted me and said that her condo is near Jelatek LRT. She asked me to head towards there. I was a new Grab driver then, unfamiliar with the roads and had no idea where Jelatek LRT was. I told her I have set her condo in Waze and it will bring us there.

By now, her voice had gotten rather anxious. She said it takes less than 10 minutes to get home from Koreatown and it's past 10 minutes and we're nowhere near her condo. Moreover she could tell the route I used was different from the route she usually uses.

I sensed something amiss and reconfirmed with her if her destination is Sri Emas condo. This time she said it's not! So I asked her what's her condo. In her halting English, she said a name that I couldn't figure out. She called someone, spoke in Korean to that person and it was obvious she was
very anxious and frantic. Finally the other person on the line sent her a photo of the condo signboard. Turns out her condo is Seri Maya condo!

So what happened was this. She told the Korean shop proprietor her condo name Seri Maya, which are Malay words. The Korean shop proprietor misheard the words and keyed in Sri Emas. Both names start with seri/sri, so for Koreans who most likely can't speak Malay, the condo names sound about the same. When I initially confirmed with the Korean lady if she's going to Sri Emas, she probably thought what I said starts with seri/sri, so must be correct. Therein lies the comedy of errors that led to me driving her to the wrong place.

Back to the trip, since I've got the correct condo name now, I reset Waze to Seri Maya condo. I was on a highway at that time so it meant I have to continue driving on it for some distance till I can leave it at the next exit.

The lady was really anxious by now and non-stop asked me in a panicky voice why am I not sending her home, where am I going, etc. You have to understand that for her, she is overseas and in a stranger's car travelling on roads she has never seen, and it's happening at night. So its not a surprise she's gotten scared. Her young children could detect their mother's fear and anxiety and they burst out crying, making a din in the car and making me also very stressed. It really was very unpleasant for me.

I could only follow the revised route to Seri Maya and in the meantime keep reassuring her I'm now on the correct route to send her home. I think she wasn't fluent in English, so probably didn't fully understand what I was saying. Her was totally frantic by now and probably thought I was a bad man driving her to some unknown place.

The Waze route brought me to Jalan Pudu near UTC and asked me to turn up a small road (Persiaran Maybank) which is between the exit of Menara Maybank and the Bursa Malaysia building. There are lots of trees here flanking this small road. As luck would have it, all street lamps there were not working at that time, so it was a totally dark small road that I turned into and the trees blocked whatever little light that came from Maybank and Bursa.

At this moment, the Korean lady totally freaked out, I'm not exaggerating. She was screaming with fear, and pleaded with me to let her go. She must have thought it's the end. This bad man (me) has sent her to a totally dark ulu place to either rob, rape or kill her. And her children were also crying badly.

I knew there was no way I could continue driving her home. So I quickly made a U-turn and emerged out into Jalan Pudu, back into street light. I stopped next to two parked taxis to let her alight, so that she can take a taxi home. She even paid me, although I tried to refuse her money as the trip was so traumatising for her and I haven't yet sent her home. But she still insisted I take and I didn't want to have a tai-chi session with her.

The trip was traumatic for me as well, not only her. But I think she had it a lot worse. It's the first time someone thought I'm a baddie and is going to do something really bad to them.

After the drop off, my mental state was in a mess and I couldn't continue working. Had to go home. I feared she will make a complaint to Grab, but thankfully she didn't as Grab never called me regarding this trip. I believe it's because since she didn't book the trip, she didn't have my name and car plate number.

I guess he doesn't want to pick u up, and he chose not to reply. Next time call him first and ask if he can pick you up, because grab now force auto accept jobs on all drivers, he might not accepting the job if it was manual selection. Also double check your pick up point if it is correct, after entering the address.

Side question, why not ask ur wife book herself? It is easier for both driver and passenger

Next time confirm with driver within 5 minutes, if no reply in both message and call probably he doesn't want to pick you up. After 5 minutes cancel you might kena RM 3 cancellation, if he choose to hide somewhere after arriving nearby u also kena RM 3 after 5 minutes.

Cases like this happen all the time before grab make compulsory auto accept jobs, and even more cases like this after compulsory auto accept jobs. Sorry because you're in hurry, but hopefully experience helps.
