I really want to test drive this car and see how it goes.

Went to perodua showroom this morning cos got free time..Quite impress..Built quality look solid..Seat look plush and well padded although thigh support is lacking..Lot of toys for 80k...Ground clearance is too high for me..Need to buy sidestep if got small kids..They will struggle to climb..Old folks also..For little family all you want is there..No test drive car so cannot test the ride.. Exterior and interior wise i think Aruz is an excellent car for family.Only worry is the power delivery and ride quality..

Already test drive... power is so so but what you expect from 1.5... the initial acceleration is fine... highspeed overtake must think twice

You buy the Aruz just to get from A to B with extra third row 💺 I think it will be a great choice for it price

Power to weight ratio is 76 mind you .one of the worst in its class..Its rival Honda BRV power to weight ratio is 96 and some still complaint that car is slow .Town driving is OK la..But if somebody bought this for long distance balik kampung drive with full family every week,he'll regret it..

I'm not good at this sort of thing so that means the lower rating for the Aruz mean its more heavier compared to other cars when the full family is in?

U need power to overtake,110km/h rpm almost 4k..to overtake how much power is left..not comfortable hearing engine sound loud but going nowhere..Experience it from Avanza..and Avanza is lighter mind you but this use same engine .

Why Toyota dont use cvt

Sort of..it means the power output compared to weight is low so u need more power to move..Fuel efficiency will suffer if full load and at high speed.Outside reviews says it takes 15 second to reach 0-100..brv takes 10.9s for comparison.

Toyota doesn't have cvt gearbox for RWD......

Today me and my fren tested the Aruz. My friend was the one driving the car actually. There was 6 adults in the car. My friend drove the car uphill around Damansara Damai area. The section going up to the mosque is quite steep. Seems OK.

Just checked out Aruz last week but didn't test drive.

Interior - a bit like toyota rush (I owned a Toyota Rush)
Backseat can adjust to the back, Rush cannot.
Height - Ground clearance just like Rush, quite high. might need the side steps accessories

SA said first batch all accessories/panel were imported. First batch cars are a bit expensive but Perodua still sell cheaper. 2nd batch will be locally.

Cannot comment much as I didn't test drive.

I heard production for 2nd batch is halt due to price change. Some sort of price matching to x70 because of same SUV segment. Same goes to Rush. Thats why no Rush OTR because price is still not fixed.

Anyone can clarify this story?

Lucky enough you can get immediately. I just got one for my customer Aruz advance blue ready stock.

Depending on specs, certain premium color are ready, advance 1 month waiting period.

First batch meaning modify from original Toyota rush, 2nd batch produce locally. As long as not ready stock then is 2nd batch.

Just test drive an Aruz, NVH really not bad at all. Engine noise at minimal and better soundproof than myvi/alza. Tyre noise more apparent than engine noise when cruising at 90-110kmh.

RPM was at 2.7k when cruise 90kmh, 3.1k when cruise 110kmh, exactly like the old persona and saga BLM FL with 4at but off course toyota engine quieter, not boomy like campro.

The ride comfortable for 1st row, 2nd is ok, 3rd is bumpy. BRV still better ride than aruz, but when at pass through pothole aruz can absorb better. 5 person on board including SA. If 1 person not sure.

since you have tested, would you recommend to buy an Aruz? And why?

for me personally i driving an Alza, spacious wise internally is smaller, so for big family I wasn't recommend this car.

For time being yes if budget below 90k, because the only 7 seater below 80k that have Stability control and 6 Airbag with all latest safety feature. BRV only 2 airbag not worth for now, wait for the facelift. Exora and Alza too old also 2 airbag.

Ya if want to upgrade from alza not much difference in size, only safety features different. Hold your bullet save for a better mpv. I believe all manufacturers will step up their game after this. Wait for Geely Jiaji come to Malaysia, I'm pretty sure the price will be like X70.

price matching of aruz to x70???? really?

Price of Aruz will be affected in future. At the same time X70 is not same segment as Aruz but Toyota Rush is brother of Perodua Aruz. This 2 units price will be pulling together so it would not affect the sales.

x70 might have minor price drop once ckd, or give you more kits at the same price.

On the aruz rush scenario, most likely some hefty discount on rush perhaps. Is not unusual practice though. for perodua, their tradition is give offer to variant that is not so hot in demand/have excess inventory. Since rush and aruz come from the same production line, and perodua only targeting 2500 units per month (not sure how many units toyota is targeting, 500?), it is unlikely the price matching practice will be in place. You won't be getting excessive aruz in inventory (rush maybe). As perodua can anytime bump up the production for other models. And aruz cannot be cheaper in order to maintain the gap between rush. And adjusting the price down wasn't something that perodua will usually do. After all they are UMW subsidiaries. We all know how UMW make money.

Yeap you're right for X70 ckd prices and Aruz details. Part of my friend from Perodua Business saying that price of Aruz will increase in the future thats why asking people to quickly place booking before its too late. No matter sales for perodua or toyota or daihatsu, all profit margin still go back to Toyota in the end.

it maybe a psychological tactic played by Perodua to lure for bookings in order to make up the numbers. After all, when we watch the review on aruz, most of the review are about being neutral with not much praising. Let alone the powertrain (output and combination) will be the focus of consumer (malaysians are fond with the peppy throttle perodua since 1st myvi) and target for rivals to attack (honda will be praising their iVTEC CVT BRV in terms of output by numbers, proton will tell you their x70 being TGDI 6AT).

Well, let's see. If perodua were to bump up the pricing, then perodua is sort of suicidal with aruz market planning. Especially when their service quality is going down trend, and also the parts quality wasn't as good as they gonna had. If proton able to improve on their car's reliability, and service quality. Then perodua should be really worry about their future.

You're right about that. Since right now Proton catching up with the quality of their car. Market shares for Perodua will be affected pretty much as time passing by now. Since Proton going to launch a new model every year and on the other hand Tun Mahathir going to launch a new car brand project and this will direct affect the market share of Perodua and its position going to be threatened real soon.

Just got my car today. Was expecting the worse because did not test drive the car before buying. The car does not feel sluggish for city driving and no problem cruising 70-80km/h. Engine not too loud. I find the Aircond blower nosier.

I downgraded from a civic 1.8 so I think highway driving will be disappointing as it would not match civic’s speed. Suspension is nice because you don’t feel the potholes on the road.

Awkward to open car doors. One press only open drivers door. You need to double press to open all doors. To activate DRL you must put your light in park all the time. I thought it should be on all the time.

Radio sound system sux and screen is so small.

Can't compare with your civic tho. Suspension good because is SUV. The rest still need a lot improvement for a standard entry SUV

perodua never excel in their audio system, dont hope for that, but i do believe aruz should be one of the best perodua model in terms of audio quality, 2 tweeters + 4 mid range speaker, shouldn't be too bad.

The problem with p2 is usually not the speakers but it's the no name headunit. Just replace it with aa/carplay unit frim pioneer/kenwood

we should be glad that p2 head unit is still swappable with other brand and when the HU went havoc other functionality is still usable. I mean when it compared to other higher end models like X70 (people tend to compare aruz to X70 even it is different segment and class, most likely due to the launching time proximity), honda crv, honda civic.....

i can't imagine future P2 models with HU controlling some of the vehicle functionality and it come with crappy audio processing capability and having little problems here and there. Not sure about myvi & alza's HU, but on bezza advance HU, it tend to have glitches here and there, like hang, display problem etc..... i think P2 still have a long way to go with their HU quality.

I went to a shopping mall closed to my house last evening where the were 3 cars on display, and the cars were unlocked so I could go in and out and sit on it.

1. Perodua Aruz lower spec
2. Perodua Alza lower spec

3. Pronto X70 lowest spec

Just skip Alza, my short finding on Aruz :
1. seats base for all 3 rows are short, really short. Thigh not properly supported even for my 1.7m height (my legs are not too long). Alza's seats are much larger and more comfy.
2. unnecessary high, the wheel arch gap is awfully large. I understand all the underpinning issues with ladder frame and SUV looks, but the end result is not so eye-pleasing.
3. 3rd row head space is tight, only suitable for small adult or best for kids.
4. In general Alza is a better for 7 ppl, better ingress and egress, better comfort. But safety wise Aruz is quite good with ESC and more airbags.
5. Used to own Alza for 5 years in the past, it has poor NVH. FC was not too bad but not very good either. Aruz is using the similar engine with more kerb weight, broader tyres, more "efficiency" tuning, I would only believe that Aruz is not gonna be sweet to drive, power delivery wise.
6. Pricing : 75k OTR or roughly 23-25k more than MYVI 1.5 (non advance) or 15-20k more than Alza, I would say you buy more sheet metal and safety stuff since powertrain no different. Worth it or not, I think by today standard, ok lar since it's much better safety features wise.


Bottom line : IF YOU LIKE IT, YOU MAY GO AHEAD TO BUY IT (while accepting all the shortcomings)

My short finding on X70 :
1. built quality is quite solid
2. seats based are large, very comfortable while sitting on it.
3. car is quite spacious overall, seating is very good where the driver can adjust to a very commanding seating position.
4. but wasted quite a lot of space unnecessary on the center console. As the transmission tunnel is not so high, I was so surprised that the compartment is so small, and that there is a lot of empty space below/behind the gear level. Geely just dug 2 little space for handphones or wallet at the side. Could have been better utilised.
5. Pricing : It would be great if the based line price is at 90k instead of 100k. I always have the feeling that the 4 models of X70 are all 10k too high. But as it was well received by the buyers I guess I don't represent the true X70 buyers.

Bottom line : IF ONE CAN WAIT, DO WAIT FOR THE X50 either CKD or CBU (should be 10-20k cheaper and have more modern interior)

Do speaker or head unit important in the car purchase decision?

maybe people want a car that drives like a bimmer, an 8speed AT box, direct injection turbo engine for power & fuel efficiency, 8 speakers BOSE sound systems inside, 7 inch semi floating deck HU with Apple touch panel level of smoothness, dual zone auto aircond with digital panel, 7 airbags, VSC, ABS EBD, AEB, LDW, BLIMS, TPMS, tall enough to handle flooded street whenever it rains heavily, good NVH, nice looking, DRL, spacious, plush seats, fit in 7 pax comfortably (or maybe 8 pax whenever they wanna slot in a kiddo), easy to drive, cheap to maintain, 5 years free service and unlimited mileage warranty, most important thing is...... it is available for price of sub 80k, and entitle for fuel subsidy.

After watching and reading some reviews, i might be considering this aruz instead of exora sometime middle of the year to replace my vios..have to change it since i will enter 2nd tiernpayment for the 2013 vios for 1k monthly..

well, let's get it straight you planned for family car or suv? both are different segment.

Hey, I'm in the same boat as you. I was previously considering Exora as well to replace my Inspira as a family car (me, wife, and 2 kids plus the occasional grandparents).

But I find the FC for Exora was really bad. I have driven a test drive unit (one of the branches was willing to give me 3-4 hours since there is so low demand for it) and drove it on highway, I got only 8-9 km/l FC on highway drive. Mind you this was on a empty car without load, where only me, my wife and a sleeping SA at the 2nd row.

BR-V was too small (mainly due to the 3rd row seat can't tumble forward individually, can't even fit both of my strollers. I initially gave up on the Rush as well since its quite similar to the BRV in terms of Dimensions.

Test drive the Aruz. Both my strollers fitted behind the 3rd row without tumbling forward. I tumbled one, and it fit a large polo 4 wheeler hard suitcase, + 2 strollers at the back.

I terus put in booking fee, and asked to trade in my Inspira.

What was your reason for opting for Aruz instead of Exora?

if you have a tight budget for a 7 seater and you put safety as your first priority, i think is either second hand Japanese MPV, or this aruz.

WHen you buying aruz, then you cannot put a high expectation on the FC as you already knew it is a 1500cc RWD 1300kg tall metal on the road, with 4AT (some like it as it is reliable, some hate it due to lack of ratio spread, like it or not, that's the only thing available for RWD 1500cc in toyota/daihatsu power train) regardless how well you play around witht he ECU TCU mapping, it won't be having a supreme FC number.

But then, 80k, with AEB. I think no other 7 seater models come close.

Im in exactly the same position as you. The car would fit me, wifey, my 2 kids n their car seats, as well as the occasional time my parents n my younger bro would take a ride with me..

Exora looks spacious but the boot of Aruz looks spacious too..in fact, spacious than any other suv in of the same segment..exora is a bit old now compated to cars nowadays but since u n my other readings of reviewa says FC of exora would be bit worse than aruz, that might sway my decision. Of course different enginr n all that..

I have a twin stroller that is always in the boot of my 2013 vios..as long as it can fit the boot of aruz, then i will stay happy..

On the road wise, i drive to work on the outskirts of KL..only venture into the city on weekends..kampung is in jb where i go back.once a month..so aruz looks to be ok for me..dont.like driving too fast on the highway due to.kids in.my car

Exora is still very much more superior in terms of capacity space. However its dated engine and lack of ISOFIX were really a deal breaker. I can't wait for the VF-11 to come. And my wife hates captain seats because it makes direct feeding difficult because of the gap between the seats.

Yes, its easy to trade in the inspira, my SA found a buyer after 30 mins lol.

yes.. Aruz NVH somehow better then BRV.. eventho BRV is using CVT gbx and cruising at lower RPM

Today delivered Aruz Premium. A very good car. Looks intimidating for the size and height of it. Safety number one in perodua

Dont think aruz will up till x70 100k Barrier. Aruz doesn't have thr fancy features of x70.

both are different segment car, can't be compared.

Aruz is smaller than X70, in terms of size exterior and interior. In addition engine Horsepower wise is lower as well for Aruz
