Well, on WP, I am unsure but about Blogger, you can get your own domain without a host since Blogger will host it for free.
Those widgets for Blogger are available in tonnes out there... tongue.gif

mySQL is a database to store data. in layman, a huge shelf to store books with lots of information of a particular title.

if you lose the book, all your information is lost. smile.gif

if your shelf breaks, you could doom to kingdom come. tongue.gif

hosting your own blog is just a step forward to experiment more with the blog. try other development stuff like different plugins provided by Wordpress. themes you think could work with it.

I find Blogger's templates now more difficult to customize because of their variable system. It's downright confusing. More than PHP or Perl in MovableType. LOL!

Why do you think you need to host your own blog?

I think it's not. Important terms are HTML, CSS. If you want to go a little but high end like customising the new Blogger, XML is for you. All these including javascripts can be googled out if you want them (ready to download and use ones).

most companies provide more than enough resource for you to host a blog.

you just have to make sure they support PHP and MySQL. you might run into some "problems" when it comes to installation if you don't understand how those server thingy works.

EDITED : oh btw some host come with scripts that allow you to install blog engines within a few clicks. wink.gif

There are many Content Management Softwares to host blogs. Right now the common one is Wordpress (which is good enough for beginners). You may try alternatives like Movable Type or Drupal, if you want.

Don't host your site off blogger. Get your own host and domain name, then go through the many money making opportunities already discussed to fund your expenses.

With WP, you can insert as many widgets as you want. Just remember to get the latest versions of Wordpress to avoid exploitation of bugs.

Oh, and to make things easier for you, when you purchase your own hosting, try to ask your host for CPanel and then Fantastico. Fantastico makes your life so much easier, I tell you.

Suppose that there should be a "Add new page element" there.
