Update, Auntie returned home... Explained why I'm feeling flustered, as no getting abundant fish this whole month.

Auntie says, don't strain my little brain cells incase accelerate onset of Alzheimer. Unker shud just relax and enjoy my John Wick 1, 2 & 3 during this low buying period.

Things will just normalise, over longer periods. Says likely due to my genes... normal to worry, but worrying gets me no-where.

Hahaha. Unker go watch 123movies liao.

UNker,.. I read unker's postings with humour and they're great infos too,... Tq unker,...

Opinions, unker ??

Master Hansel. Wow! Privileged to cross path. Very insightful msg. You cannot be the young Master Hansel & Gretel lost in the woods, more likely, a Jedi Master.

Pls elaborate, you Used to be a ASX investor... Now, already moved on the more exciting investments? Pls do share, I am all ears (likely all eyes, to read yr responses)

Hahaha, hope fellow forumers don't lose patience with Unker daily yapping n trying to be idealistic when it comes to, call for powers that be... To be colour blind in helping enrich n empowering the deserving.

You raised all the pertinent points. Unker waiting correction (yawn! Already waiting 2-3yrs liao, last opportunity was the Brexit... Pull small trigger on OCBC n DBS), now as ASX getting more competition....if this continues for few more months, thinking cost averaging on Vanguard S&P low cost fund.

Unker was working alone in SIN (left Mal when Sgd exchange was 2.0; return to Mal n family after opted for early retirement, work burn-out Y16). Now, Unker employed by my supplier old boss. Look-see n mentoring job...travel within Apac.

Initially, working in Penang... I witnessed how my old company unfairly treated my then mentor (an Unker more senior than me, taught me abt EQ n work ethics)... We slogged 10yrs together, so much for company, once old, kena whacked till forced take package. After that incident, within 3 months I pulled my contacts n was working in SIN.

Epilogue... What happened to my old mentor? Just 5 years ago sold off 40-50 acres of Penang Island durian orchard, financially, he's doing very, very alright!!! Hahaha. Positive karma.

Kurosaki-San,
Aiyoyo. Unker don't stand a chance with the fellow forumer, Equatorian, Soothsayer, Aladdin genie, Batman avatars... Them young uns too fast for Unker.

But in reality, May whole month available fish... Cannot even fill up your one tooth filing. Not to mention, the $300k bomb you gonna bring along soon? Or, oledi on hand? Frightening!!!

QUOTE(moosset @ May 21 2019, 08:43 PM)
last time during 1998 financial crisis, how many % did ASB pay out??
*
Must see larger picture.... Back in 1997, our Govt debt was much less. Lots of room to play with both fiscal n monetary policies.

Sadly, you can say, Govt was giving free money to the majority population....by incurring debt n also likely corruption.

So, don't hope to go back to the good old days. Whatever, free $$$ we get (if not due to real increased productivity, tech break thru, etc) somehow our children, grandchildren, etc will have to pay back.

QUOTE(LoTek @ May 21 2019, 10:12 PM)
maybe would be more realistic if shown as debt as a percentage of gdp
*
Yippee!

Morning LoTek. Unker back from walk. I think we r in alignment. Below sharing additional info for Moosset/rest of forumers, cannot sleep n noting better else to do...

For advanced economies, the Govt debt to gdp makes sense. As their absolute debt $ can seems infinite, yet currency remains strong.

Same does apply to Mal, using debt to fund gdp? Sin has much higher Govt debt to gdp compared to Mal. Doesn't mean they are worse off.

Our real problem, our country is a net debtor (as opposed to net creditor), just need to compare against our immediate neighbours... Over the years, most find it increasingly expensive to go holidays in Bkk n Sin. Ini kerana Hutang Negara! Hahaha. Nobody in the household cares what's our Gdp..they only know, prices goes up!!!

Unker apologies, above explanation straying outside ASX topic. Yet, realistically, don't see how ASX dividend % can improve during immediate term. Only thankful, better than bank fd n safer than unit trust volatility.

Again, the conspiracy theory, is that Asnb cud be just another vehicle, created to dispense more debt to appease n feed the majority population. Since all the counters are not shariah compliant, why don't we just copy exact the ASB invested counters.... Everyone can get higher dividend compared to ASM123 or VP counters?

Unless, we skilled in other forms of investment outside Mal, or, playing waiting game for impending stock correction due to external geopolitics.... among us like-minded individuals, Asx seems to be our desired instrument to 'park n grow $'

Don't know-lar, unker,... for myself, I want to be able to manage my own funds for the rest of my life as long as I'm physically able to, till I go,.. I'll never leave all the funds to someone else to manage.

Sure, if that someone loves you enough not to question your expenses,.. BUT the day will come when that someone starts to question your productivity and economic contribution to the household.

Anyway,... investing is an activity that we can do for the rest of our life. Not too much of physical activity involved. The more we do, the more we exercise our brains, the stronger we become in this field.
*
Xeon,
Pretty well thought responses, well done.... If both parties are working, then split the income fairly (both in agreement) into shared 3 accounts = household vs him vs her accounts.

You struck the right cord abt being independent n self learning.

Bravo! Lastly, don't just save, save, save... Wor, if like a Korea or Osaka trip, just redeem some $ n go... Experience is more important than things.

Uncle, thanks for constantly sharing your stories...learnt alot from them. Also, did working in SG helped you financially?
*
Hello again Sapphire,

Yes indeed, but allow me to share other considerations. But not hard selling here. There are millions more My happily staying back home.

There's like 1mil My working in Sg (those that travel daily n include already PR staying there). My roots used to make up ard 20% Sg population.

Personal taxes, max ard Sg 17% vs My 24%.

Sg can go ard in public transport, save on car installment.

Unker was heavy biz traveller, 70-100k Km/year, really save 4-8 hrs every trip as compared flying fr PEN.

Sg VSP is tax-free, in My the VSP is added to you earned income.

Lastly, if you earn in Sg, while family members in My.... Its definitely a big $$$ advantage. This was my big consideration.

If young, open your mind to another world, strong education can see from my NUS colleagues, meritocracy, world class infra, real melting pot of global citizens compared to PEN.

Well there's tradeoffs, sacrifices n test long distance relationships. Now with AA, Tiger, etc meeting up over weekends is much convenient.

Unker flying to Subang now... Bye.

hi can u advice why investment, sg is better than malaysia?
*
Hello to the likes of PrincZe n Moosset with ASB investment.
You are in best position to max savings/investment.
Just go diversification.

But, if MYR doesn't crash in future & If I was a Bumi, I wud put some portion of my money into ASB123. The rest, of investment depending on your pandai-pandai investment knowledge.

Based on your mail, if you intend to work in SIN... Maybe, a more logical & immediate investment wud be a property in JB or SIN, to start a family, hahaha?

Good Friday morning. Yawn!

Wah, Unker looking myself in the mirror.... Panda eyes, bad mood, poor work concentration, unsociable, etc.

Doctor confirmed, many people with such problem these few weeks.... Vitamin A, S, M deficiency.

Doc says must keep positive outlook, spam harder during 930am-100pm, pack lunch to avoid wasting time driving out, partner with spouse to take turns spam, meditate and repeat 'happiness more important than investing'..... Hahaha!

Congrats to the few outstanding fishermen. Well done!

Hi, guys...I've only got ASM Wawasan (when I was a child, when mother has no money, but still tried her best save some for me), and stopped few years after. So I only know of this fund.

Is there a difference between this and ASM and ASM 3? I read the details, they seemed almost the same to me. Should I then buy any between these 3? Thanks for this.
*
😥😢😇, wah Unker hear already,.. Unker very emotional. Quickly, research for Sapphire.
