So, with my recent upgrade to 500Mbps, will the TP-Link Archer C7 be an adequate upgrade, or should I opt for something better like the Archer C3150?

Just want something that will do the job well for a small condo (not a landed property), and not overkill.

A budget of around RM700, I think.
*
Archer C7 won't be able to fulfill your needs.

You should get at least AC2300.
Or you can order the DIR-882 from TIME.

Thanks

just by phone call will do?

You can upgrade or downgrade your plans in Self Care

QUOTE(tritonite @ Oct 8 2018, 10:37 PM)
I haven't been home in a few months, so still haven't upgraded from the basic DIR-850L.

Don't have someone with an Archer C7 for me to try out before purchase.
My needs are mostly 80% wired. Wifi is only about of 20% importance.

More concerned with whether the router Gigabit ports can sustain whatever the BTU/modem is delivering.
*
Most routers have Gigabit ports. Only cheap models doesn't have gigabit ports.
How many devices connected on LAN?

QUOTE(alwinnng @ Oct 8 2018, 10:43 PM)

Yes. Got 12 months or 24 months contract.

For the 12 months contract have RM 300 one time charge and are not entitled to promotion whenever got promotion.

Thanks

Most routers have Gigabit ports, yes, but whether the hardware inside the router can cope with the demands is another thing.

Five. A work PC, a laptop, a file server, an Android box and a smart TV, spread across three rooms via a Homeplug network currently, but a Cat 6 LAN will be put in within the next few months because I will be travelling overseas less and working from home. Which is why I am asking about an optimum router since I want the main one connected to the BTU/modem to be able to service the entire network through a switch.
*
OK. I got it.

Since your budget is RM 700 only.
You may get the AC2300 as SilentVampire mentioned that it is better than D-Link DIR-882

Or you can top up to get the AC5400X.

Thanks.

Did you know how much is Archer C5400X ?
*
1.6K bro. So only AC2300 is the only choice.
AC3150 from TP-Link discontinued and D-Link 3200 is over budget for him. RM 100 extra.

AC5400 is worse than AC5400X.
AC5400X is going to replace AC5400.

Thanks.

Today you post so many wrong info....

AC3150 is not discontinued ,
just out of stock. Stock is coming another week or two (probably with increased price).
AC5400X is gaming router with better spec, its doesnt mean AC5400 is bad.

Also C7 v.5 on 500Mbps plan will do job.

or wait for upcoming AC2700.

Edit:
If he need to top up RM700...better choice is Asus Blue Cave.
*
Not I say that AC3150 is discontinued.
A friend of mine who is a reseller of TP-Link told me that AC2300 replaces AC3150.

Also the AC5400X. AC5400X is using 1GB RAM while AC5400 is using 512MB RAM.

For the AC2700. Got a lot of differences from AC2600?

Archer C9 can consider. OOKAS selling latest version which is V5.1

Thanks

No such thing as that.
Even Core i5 also can achieve.
This is not about the processor things.
Is it using the latest firmware?
Try to perform direct connection to ONU and test.

Thanks.

C5400X is quad core vs C5400. Limited availability.

OK. Thanks bro.

Both also out of stock.
I thought AC3150 discontinued liao.

Should I upgrade now or wait until Wireless AX?

Need to wait for the official information whether AX is backwards compatible with Wireless AC.

I signed up for 500 Mbps on Oct 1 and installation done on Oct 8 and Time supplied the AC-1200 router. Time announced new upgrade plans on Oct 7. On Oct 8, I was upgraded to 1 Gbps.

I called Time to change the router to DIR-882 and they said because I signed up before Oct 7, I am only eligible for AC-1200 although my upgraded speed now is 1 Gbps. I am only eligible for the free DIR-882 router after 12 months. So, fine.
I want to upgrade my router to be able to enjoy the 1 Gbps speed. My options:

1. Purchase from Time through self-care for RM 550-00 and Time come and install.

2. Purchase from outside another brand / model that support 1 Gbps speed and set it up myself.  Let's assume budget is not an issue.
Question :

1. Obviously (1) is easier and Time will set up for you and ensure it works. If I go for Option 2, how easy to set it up myself?

2. If I am to purchase a new router that supports 1 Gbps, what router should I get that is available in stores (say Low Yat or Mid Valley)?
*
1. If you purchase from TIME Self Care. TIME Technician will setup for you and perform a test around the house to ensure that everything is in a good condition. It is very to setup your own router. Just key in PPPOE Details and that's all. Not like TM Unifi and Maxis need additional settings to set.

2. AC2300 and above do support 1Gbps. Wi-Fi unable to get 1Gbps if you have 3X3.

I can assist you to setup with 3rd party router.

Thanks.

Nope, only TP-Link wording. Yes, tested 5GHz...managed to get highest 476Mbps DL & 493Mbps UL on customer's Asus laptop on 1Gbps line.
*
D-Link or TP-Link word?

On 5GHz can achieve 500Mbps well.

Thanks.

I just bought the AC5400X and set-up was easy by just entering the PPOE username and password. I am using a Cat7 cable as well.

Have been doing speedtests in the last hour and highest I achieved was about 600 Mbps. I am on the 1 Gbps plan. On the TP Link AC-1200, I was able to achieve up to 700-800+ Mbps a few times. All tests on wired.

Any special settings in the AC5400X that I need to do to make sure I achieve the fastest speed on my AC5400X?

Maybe later after midnight may be faster when less users are online.
*
Hi. How's the signal coverage? Able to get full signal on 5GHz in the room?
Test out what's the maximum speed you can get over 5GHz WiFi.

Check whether the Nat boost is enabled.

Hope you can give a review of your new router.

Thanks.

Signal coverage is 5 bars, full signal. On Wifi 5GHz, I can get 325Mbps Download and 473Mbps Upload on my Note 9.

I don't see Nat boost in System Tools-System Parameters.. I only see Enable Nat. Are you referring to "Enable Nat"?

Just reached 880 Mbps on wired.
*
OK. Thanks for the info.

I think must be that I'm not sure.
If you have a laptop which support 5G to test it out.
Wanna know whether can achieve 500Mbps on 5GHz Wi-Fi using laptop.

Cannot reach 1Gbps?
One of the forumer here said can achieve full speed over LAN.

Thanks

Asus RT-N66U will be worse than the TIME Stock Router.

Thanks.

Same chip with ROG GT-AC5300. C5400X is faster on USB performance and boot up stupidly fast. Routing and WiFi should be more or less the same.

Main differentiation is on feature.

Hi. I have read your review.

Need answers to a few questions.
This AC5400X boots faster than others? 35 seconds to load with Internet working.

May I know what is the purpose of link aggregation?
And how do the Dual WAN thingy works?
The 5GHz signal reception is very good?
Can get higher speed further away from the router?

Is it the best choice to upgrade to AC5400X from AC1900?
Dual Band and Tri-Band got a lot of differences?

Thanks.

Thanks bro. Very interesting. Might get one myself.
Hi I don’t have the router but I can answer some of your Qs as they are quite general. Link aggregation in the TP-Link context is to combine two LAN ports into one port therefore increasing the throughout to potentially 2Gbps. Dual WAN is that you can have two separate WAN connection, which is useful if you have two separate ISP subscription or one ISP but two accounts. One will be the backup, and one will be main. Businesses does that as they can’t afford to have internet down.

Yes, it would be good if you can upgrade to 5400X from AC1900. Dual band and tri band and have no differences. Tri band means having two 5GHz band and one 2.4GHz band, and dual band is only one 2.4Ghz band and one 5GHz band.
*
Thanks for the info.
Should I wait till later or get the AC5400?
Thanks

QUOTE(blacktubi @ Oct 12 2018, 10:57 AM)
What SilentVampire said is pretty much accurate.

AC5400 router is a very significant step up from AC1900. AC1900 chipset at this point is pretty old.  smile.gif
