Okay. Can be heavier perhaps 1.3 kgs max. Any recommendations besides Microsoft Surface Laptop?
*
Lenovo Ideapad 720s 13 (Intel)
HP Envy 13
Asus UX430UN - cooling issue
Asus UX331UA

With small battery:
Acer Swift 5 - dim display, CPU performance issue
Lenovo Ideapad Miix 520 with SSD upgrade

Although Surface products have excellent build quality and excellent display quality, I don't trust their reliability and hate their anti-consumer behaviour (like Apple) - no upgradability (upgrades are extremely expensive), no maintenance, high price tag etc

With MX150:
Acer Swift 3 SF314-54G +RAM
Acer Swift 3 SF315-51G - soldered RAM

Gaming:
Illegear Raven (TongFang GI5CN5E)
Dell G7 i5-8300H+1050 - no display upgrade option
Lenovo Legion Y530 (only if you're a student, apply 15% discount)
Commandos Glock 5 (Clevo NB50TK1)

Note that all gaming laptops above have low sRGB IPS default panel

You're welcome. Just remember to undervolt CPU+GPU. If possible, replace the thermal paste since most stock paste is crap

2) 128 or 256 SSD? Seems all these laptop come with 1TB hard drive plus i also have 2TB external drive...If possible i want OS,DOTA2, and a few engineering software on SSD...
3) Between the hp and asus..,which has overall better quality and thermal?

1) min requirement for win10 is 4gb. but it is much better if you have ssd, then 4gb ram will be jz enough. For best experience, better get 8gb ram. 16gb is pretty standard and allow more application running on background. and a slightly improvement performance in game (having 8gb and 16gb does make a small different) - still it does make a different even it just a little.

2) get at least 256ssd. I make it like this... System (OS) on ssd - steam on SSD.. but other things is on hdd. i dont have much games so, 256gb steam install on ssd is fine enough. if you have a lot, then let OS only on SSD, and steam will be install on hdd.

3) hp has better thermal design if you are talking bout gaming range. quality, depends with product range. i think quite fair for these 2 brand.

1. 8GB min
2. Depends on you
3. S530 is lacking reviews, wouldn't recommend for now

Mind you, manual RAM+storage upgrades are usually cheaper

Have you consider other options? You want a 15 inch laptop?

HP also have some gaming/performance models with bad cooling, like Pavilion Gaming

Every brand has good and bad models, so cannot just compare brand. However Asus has horrible after sales service from what I heard

1.Preferred Brand : Dell/HP/Lenovo
2. Budget : Below RM1800
3. Screen size : 14/15 inch
4. Config : Intel i3/i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB/1TB HD, DVDRW, Basic Graphic card, long lasting battery
5. Usage : For work like typing Word/Excel, browsing internet, watching movie/football online, playing basic games

I badly need to buy a new laptop as my old laptop (Dell Inspiron N4110) just failed. I had used the old laptop since 2011 without any problems for the first 5 years but it started to give screen/MB problems after that until the Hard Disk suddenly failed last week. I am still trying to recover many important files/videos/photos from that HD but many PC shops in DigitalMall/Lowyat/MidValley were unable to help until now. Even a supposed professional data recovery centre quoted RM1000-1800 to recover the data but failed to do so.

So, I really need a very reliable laptop to use long term. Despite my old laptop problems, I still prefer Dell as I had used them at work and home all this while. My budget is very tight at below RM1800, due to having to keep another RM1000-1800 to recover the data from my old HD.

Thanks in advance.

Currently looking at IdeaPad. Prefer a laptop that is hardy and can last for a long time. Would also prefer a brand with good customer service.

If you don't mind weight+battery life and fine with low sRGB IPS, can consider Legion Y530 81FV00QUMJ if you really want thin bezel. Just need to add SSD (take out Optane)

Ideapad 320s 14 +RAM+SSD. If you need DVD drive, buy an external one. Usually laptops with DVD drive built in don't have good build quality and good battery life

FYI i5 and i7 don't matter much in ULV CPU due to thermal and firmware limitation. Also, no one can guarantee longevity; however, laptops in this price range usually suffer from worse QC, just keep that in mind

Hi Sifu.

May I know where to get the 320s? It's not on Lenovo's official website at the moment.

Other details for laptop I'm looking into, hope you can recommend to me

1. Brand: HP/Dell/Lenovo
2. Performance: 4/8GB RAM, SSD
3. Battery life: 6 or more hours
4. Weight: 1.2-1.5kg
5. Usage: Word/PowerPoint/Multitasking/Watching Movies/Light and very rarely editing videos
6. Screen size: 13-14 inch
7. Budget: RM 2.5k. Max is 3k

I'm a student going into the work force in January as an intern, not sure how much my usage will change over the next few months but I would like to get something mostly reliable in terms of consistency in performance and decent warranty/suppport. I understand based on previous replies that it's based on luck, but what would be your recommendation?my 😃 My current laptop Asus UX305- bought in June 2016 is under repair so I'm considering a new laptop.

Get 320s 14 from Shopee or Lazada, that model also EOL. Also consider 330s 14, however I cannot confirm that it has IPS panel and 52Wh battery at this time

Good luck dealing with Asus support

Here are some good options:
Acer Spin 5 13 - good sRGB IPS, soldered RAM
Acer Swift 3 SF314-54/54G +RAM
Lenovo Yoga 520 (i5-8250U) +RAM

With smaller battery:
Dell Inspiron 7472 - good sRGB IPS
Dell Vostro 5471 +RAM+SSD
HP Pavilion 14 ce0082/83tx +RAM
HP Pavilion x360 14 cd0036tx +RAM
