Now my heart is focused on HP Omen 15-dc0126TX.
Any comments in terms of build, cooling, support etc that I need to take note of?

Nice! I know this model is not perfect.
I noticed that it has been highlighted by you a few times, so I am curious if there are any good features that I should take note of, as well.

Hi all,

I am looking for an affordable laptop preferably below RM2k for my mom to use. Just basic ones for surfing and watching YouTube/drama will do. As long as it's durable and doesn't lag easily.

Any recommendation?

Hi folks.

Assume my notebook has 8Gb RAM with 2666Mhz speed, and I want to upgrade it into 16Gb. Can I just get the cheapest 8Gb notebook RAM with the same speed? Do i need to factor in the brand, the ECC thingy etc ?

Will notebook RAM drops further by next month or I should buy now, based on forecast, of course.

I came across this Intel Optane thing. Is this better than a typical SSD? Do I need it?

As long as it has same frequency and timings, it should work. If you want dual channel make sure to match capacity. ECC is 'server' RAM which is in different category

RAM pricing is quite low now, might drop further though

Optane is basically marketing thing, not much use. Get a SSD

Other than Huawei and microsoft, any other choice for laptop with 3:2 aspect ratio?

I feel this is the best aspect ratio for productivity and web browsing for 12-17 screen size.

Thanks for your advice again.
I understand that 2666Mhz is the frequency but i have no details of the timings (the 4 numbers)
The laptop specs for the memory indicates : 8GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM

In that case, can I just get any (or maybe cheapest) notebook/laptop memory with 8GB DDR4 2666Mhz ?
Or there are some extra features that justify paying more, for memory of the same frequency and size?

In normal cases it should be the same as JEDEC: 2666MHz 19-19-19-43

Just get the cheapest with same frequency+timings and size

Hi, may I know should I buy normal monitor 60hz gtx 1060 laptop , or rather spend rm1000+ more on a 144hz gtx 1060 laptop?

Got any different?
*
Which model? Paying extra 1k isn't worth it, even though 144Hz provides better experience

Am i able to see such details on the RAM itself?

I am considering whether to buy the RAM now before my notebook arrives
or wait till it arrives, and then check the bundled RAM in the notebook to confirm it.

Hi,

I'm going to buy Illegar Onyx. Initially I opted for i7 8750+GTX1050ti but this combo only available in stock in next week. So i was asked if I wanted to upgrade to i7 with GTX1060 or downgrade to i5 with GTX1050.

My usage is more for home office and slight gaming. My gaming is very minimal like dota2, CS, this sort of 30-60min duration type of game. Most of the time I'm running android 3rd party apps (for example bluestack) for playing mobile MMORPG games in background while doing office work. That means I cannot tolerate lagging with 3rd party android apps running in background while I'm working on my multiple documents with multuple browsers and emails at the same time.

So should i just stay with i7 with 1050? i5 with 1050 will be laggy or not and i7 with 1060 will be no use for me at all for that additional rm880 upgrade from 1050? Budget is not an issue, i just dont want to overspend on unused stuff and i dont want to buy something that will dissapoint me. Currently im using surface pro i5 and it lags which i hate it very much.

Helios 300 i5 vs i7

First thing: Helios 300 has mediocre cooling and OKish build quality

Refer my gaming laptop list for good options, some with high refresh rate

Budget - as long as worth it

No weight and battery preference.

As long as best bang for bucks, good GPU good monitor good for gaming, meaning at least gtx 1060 full.

All with CFL-H i5 (which is sufficient for gaming) and high refresh rate panel:
1. Lenovo Legion Y530 (customize)
2. Illegear Raven (TongFang GJ5CN6E)
3. Commandos Carbine 5 / Level51 W15 Lite (Clevo N950TP6) with desktop CPU
