From my experience, not bad. Carry in and onsite are good. It really depends on luck and location

You mean which model with HDR? UHD panel in XPS 13 has really slow response times. Excellent overall colour quality though.

Hi

Any owner can advise me if the g7 can do the whispermode while gaming with low fan noise? I know the 1060 model can do it but is it really low fan noise like <40 db? im ok with the lower settings & temp <100degC. Games witcher 3, pubg, csgo. Im noob at laptop and not updated on latest computer specs. No headphones pls.

I dont trust so much dave2d and others youtuber review. Almost all his review is low fan noise. Others youtuber got like 50db on load but this is not in whispermode.

If the whispermode alone dont get low fan noise, can you get the low fan noise with add settings like wihispermode+undervolt/ turbo off?

Im planning to buy a laptop. After google and youtube, i conclude to 2 laptops. G7 1060 or msi ge63 8re. I plan to use for 4-5 yrs for gaming and some ms ofice work at home. Laptop coz i want mobile.

Ge63 pros is good cooling, 1060maxp, good screen, rgb, easy access to thermal paste. Cons is i think quality/ reliablility/ aftersales not as good as g7. If msi tested to achive low fan noise settings i will buy it too.

G7 pros is i think good build quality after sales and reliability, 1060maxq. Hmm not much pros. Cons is heat issue? Keybod light, hard to access thermal paste, screen lower, sound lower than msi.

Ok too long already. The pros and cons looks like msi win. Advise pls... other brand/model welcome but min.1060. Price ranged about same as those 2 laptop.

Damm just now i got to know lenovo y530 got 1060 but donno gud or not

1060 models can do Whispermode. That 40dBA thing is just marketing, you might get slightly higher fan noise (>40dBA) even it's enabled, however G7 should handle 40dBA easily in Whispermode

A few models have really great fan noise, however CFL-H runs hot so.... You can do some tweaks to get lower fan noise - undervolt, repaste, disable turbo boost/change turbo ratio

Y530 is good, but not 'excellent'. Still a 'budget' gaming laptop anyway. Should be able to handle 1060, plenty of cooling room for GPU

Y720 just got price slash due to newly updated BIOS which result of not showing processor info making price differ to Y530 is now even lesser.

Oh ya I found that Y520/Y720 is using ELAN trackpad and ELAN being inconsistency upon use. While Y530 is using Windows Precision, which is great IMO. Keyboard on both remain the same.

Well how bad is ELAN vs Windows Precision?

Hi guys, I’m getting more and more confused reading back this thread.
So I decided to post question 😓
Looking for;
1. Budget : Below 3k
2. Usage : Adobe(Lightroom, photoshopt), light gaming(csgo or sims), and student usage
3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) : Probably around 13-14inch, battery life doesn’t matter, light weight
No specific preference in others

So what laptop you think is excellent? The msi looks good already. Add 1070 is better but too much already for +1k.

That whispermode is not really my first priority. First priority is quality and reliability good lasting laptop. Just now i play around the y530 and the touchpad curser just stop moving for like 5s. This got to be software issue. Tested the 2 models have this issue. The i5 and i7 1050ti. Same thing like bob of all trade Youtube video for g7 and he mentioned same issue in 7577. Whats wrong with these new products? Looks like not enough testing and rush release. Same with the hot i7 8750h not to mention the i9 throttling.

Last time my old desktop pentium 3 never update the os for 5 yrs. it use unbuntu lts previous version. Very stable but we only use for browsing, youtube, streaming videos and light work. No game. I paln to do the same with msi. Windows installed and ubuntu in another ssd. Msi can have 2 ssd. I think that will work for both world. Game in windows and browsing in ubuntu.

Y530 does indeed have touchpad driver issue. And there is no driver can be downloaded from the official website which is ridiculous

CFL-H runs hot. It's Intel's fault IMO for making inefficient chips

Budget? Usage? Any preference on weight and battery life? Any other special requirements?

hi guys, got headache from choosing what laptop to buy...plis help. i have looked into buying asus strix scar II but after reading that asus has bad customer service i became confused.

1. Budget : 5000-6000(can stretch to 6500)

2. Usage : cad software(Solidworks), Adobe(Photoshop and Illustrator) and some gaming(Paladins, CSGO, MHW and etc)

3. Requirements (display size, battery life, weight etc) :
- preferably 1060 graphics card
- 15 inch display (dont care about it being 60hz or 120hz)
- no weight preference
- battery life not an issue

i wanted a design that doesnt scream GAMING but since i opt into gaming laptop, it cant be prevented (but still want a lowkey design). im a student btw

as far as I'm looking for laptop too, for those budget, you may get a decent top spec Y530. definitely won't scream GAMING and now got GTX1060 option and come with 144Hz screen too.
