MX150 10W, high sRGB display, non-upgradable RAM:
Acer Swift 3 SF314-55G-547H
Asus Zenbook UX430U-NGV176T

MX150 10+W / 25W, low sRGB IPS:
Lenovo Ideapad 530s 14 81EU00NRMJ/ SMJ/ TMJ/ UMJ
Acer Swift 3 SF314-54G-52L8 / 59WJ +RAM
Acer Swift 3 SF315-51G-55UH / 56T6 - non-upgradable RAM
HP Pavilion 15-CS0033TX +RAM+SSD - small battery

MX130 (940MX) / Vega 8 (dual channel) / R540:
Lenovo Thinkpad A485
Lenovo Ideapad 530s 15 81EV00DVMJ +RAM
Lenovo Yoga 520 81C80016MJ / 17MJ +RAM
Lenovo Thinkpad E485, E585 - small battery
Lenovo Ideapad 330s-14IKB 81F400SFMJ / GMJ / HMJ +RAM - below average battery life
Lenovo Ideapad 330s-15IKB 81F500S5MJ / S6MJ +RAM - below average battery life
HP Pavilion 14-CE0082TX / CE0083TX +RAM - small battery

Actually you can go for gaming laptop just like the previous recommendation. Nothing wrong buying gaming laptop even though you don't game much since some models meets your weight and battery life requirements. Got new 1650 models aldy

Thanks for the help bro. I'm going to put Acer Swift 3 SF314-54G-52L8 on my watchlist. Seems reasonable. Also not the crippled mx150. Add on another 4gb ram then should be good.

1. Budget : Max RM5K

2. Usage : Programming, browsing chrome with running multiple tabs and very light gaming(dota2, indie games)

3.Requirement:
-Display size preferably 15.6 inch and low sRGB IPS is acceptable.
-battery life don't really matter, 4 hrs will be enough, guess most of the time will be plug in.
-weight best is within 2.5kg including power adapter. However it can be heavier if necessary even tho lighter is still preferred.
- Ram is at least 8gb
- Overall is just looking some high performance laptop that can handle frequent multi tasking and able to handle dual-boot with linux.

2.5kg including adapter is very hard to find in gaming/performance laptops. Prefer regular laptop/Ultrabook or performance/gaming laptop more?

Need dual storage? Mind non-upgradable RAM?

Any preference on battery life?

no pref on batt life. mostly will use as desktop pc replacement.

forgot to mention, no need touch screen or finger print security etc. Just a normal home pc replacement for smooth office and net surfing experience.

Now that one really limits your option

You see Loonicks hates nvidia graphics , you are going to get far worst off performance with nvidia graphics . However good news is DOTA runs even on potato - which means Intel graphics can handle. Also you can save up some money on buying external GPU (with Firewire)

How important loonicks , err linux is to you compared to gaming .This way I think ZM Fong can give you better recommendations

L580 - since you would like a bigger 15" screen and since you are typing on your laptop. I assume you need a good comfortable keyboard

Nothing beats Lenovo in it. Also you can upgrade the RAM later or even SSD . Since Lenovo charges a bit more expensive , again it would go about RM 3.2 k with all the upgrades

Can be heavier if necessary. What are the recommendation for both regular laptop and gaming laptop because i am actually open to both.
Need dual storage? :Not really, I can simply just use an external hard drive.
Mind non-upgradable RAM?;Prefer one with upgradable option just in case for future usage. But still open to the non-upgradable RAM option.

For now , my choices are Lenovo y530, Acer Aspire 5, Vivo s15 and seeking for more better option.

Max weight in kg and min battery life in hours? What do you mean by last longer?

Just some light programming, is just personally I like to have different program running at the background at the same time like some indie game, IDE, browser with multiple tabs and music player etc.
Btw ,if ignore the requirement of ability to handle dual-boot, what regular laptop/gaming laptop wouldl you recommend.

Since you prefer lighter weight and want to run Linux, I will suggest business laptops - can consider Thinkpad T590 with MX250 (a bit over budget)

I see, but if ignore the requirement to run Linux and weight limitation, what else would you recommend. Be it gaming laptop or ultrabook because i am trying to have multiple options so i can compare all of them afterward. Thank you. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
