You might as well buy the almost new TP-Link AC1200 provide by TM from those who got it free but don't use it...
*
TM TP-Link AC1200 is a crap version. It is better if he get the C7 v5 or v4.

is it? btw SilenVampire, would you know if VPN still works on the AC1200 or DIR842? Cos am intending to get the 100mbps soon
*
Yes, they do work on the routers you mentioned, but if you want a built-in VPN server in the router’s firmware, you need to get a more expensive high end model.

QUOTE(malaysianbest @ Sep 22 2018, 08:38 PM)
How about Cisco, Trendnet and Mikrotik ?
*
Lol, hell will freeze over if they provide Cisco or Mikrotik. Both will require configuration and some networking knowledge to optimally use them to their full potential especially Cisco, and very limited GUI on them so you need the prerequisite CLI skills, so I don’t think TM will ever provide them.

Trendnet is interesting, but not well known here. I think TM will choose Tenda over Trendnet, for the cost and most people are familiar with them, as they are widely available.

Tenda software support is non-existence and the UI looked like a year 2 undergraduate design  tongue.gif

There you go lol. There is that reason why they are not that widely known.

QUOTE(gedebe @ Sep 22 2018, 09:01 PM)
so for turbo upgrade of 30mbps to 300, is TM going to supply both new modem and router that support gigabit?
*
They have given you a router and BTU that support gigabit but only on wired, but you are on your own if you need full turbo wireless speed. If your BTU can’t support gigabit, you can demand for a new one, but not router, unless you sign another 24 months contract with them.

I set another router as ap (dlink DIR-850l) . Connect on 5ghz band , get 200mbps only out of 500mbps. Then I also use the lan port of the AP to connect to my ps4 and Iptv. Get 100mbps out of 500mbps only.

Should I set the AP as second router ?
*
Did you read 1st page, 1st post, green text? Your DIR850L does not support 500Mbps on wireless.

Ok, how to switch it to become lan port switch ?
*
You can't lol. Not possible. I would just get a proper switch. They are not expensive.

Oic , thanks for your advice. Hmm if set it as 2nd router ? Wasted this router if I just keep it. Free from unifi 1

You can do that, if you want to. I lost mine already lol.

Can just set the lan ip of the router to a different subnet and disable dhcp. Boom the router becomes a switch and a backup ap at the same time (i do that at home)
*
Yep, it is possible, but it is not optimal.

Well, most routers nowadays actually confine local switching to their dedicated hardware accelerated 'switch chips" (those black rectangle chips on pcb just above the lan ports). Can reliably get around at least 700-800mbps usually
*
Could be, so he will have to configure it and see for himself. Thank you for the advice though.

Post the speed test when it has finish the process and see if you still get 1.1Gbps? That image just shows that the speed test is being conducted and sometimes it can jump to a ridiculous speed. That is using Fast.com, true?

I am currently using Maxis 10Mbps plan, thinking of change to Unifi since they offer free IPTV but the it need STB to watch on TV?

If no, then we can only watch it using phone?
*
Yes, you are right. Try asking if you can top up RM30 to get the STB.

QUOTE(samfa @ Sep 23 2018, 03:56 AM)
turbo-ed to 500mbps few days ago.
I got a router in 1st floor which is ASUS rt-n14uhp that cannot support gigabit speed and a similar specs asus router connected to this router as AP on the 2nd floor. If I change to gigabit router at 1st floor, what can I do to the 2nd floor to enjoy the speed on wireless?? Right now I only got around 35mbps by wifi.
Do I need to change both routers?? Or I can continue to use current router to achieve faster wifi speed than now by just change the router at 1st floor?? Because one router is qt expensive.
*
Gigabit router, change both. Asus RT-N14HP does not support 5GHz AC, and only N, and no gigabit ports. Refer to 1st page, 1st post, green text, for list of compatible routers, and other general info.

QUOTE(shahie @ Sep 23 2018, 05:50 AM)
yes....like mine, previously i have dir-842 installed on ground floor and low end asus RT-N12 on the first floor, both connected via cat5e lan. since turbo-ed to 300mbps, and i wish to enjoy full 300mbps wifi around my house with one dedicated 5ghz SSID, i managed to get dir-882 to replace dir-842 and take away asus Rt-n12 and install dir-842 + getting tplink RE450 as an wired AP for my master bedroom (off course lay new cat5e too). so far everywhere i managed to get 200-300mbps except at the edge of my living room area, 150-180mbps only. my plan soon will be another cat5e with dir-878 to improve the wifi on that area.
*
Yep, you are doing it right. Good job.

Tenda is still acceptable, and not that bad.

QUOTE(Apeiron @ Sep 23 2018, 08:50 AM)
TP link AC1200 retail version is not same to TP Link AC1200 Tm version.

TM version is known to have lots of complain.

there is a thread in Lowyat discussing about it, pls be warned
*
Of course lol rolleyes.gif

The retail version is V3, and the TM version is V1, with shitty firmware. So, that is to be expected.

QUOTE(Apeiron @ Sep 23 2018, 08:59 AM)
Tenda AC15 and AC18 having similar hardware with Asus RT-AC68U, some have flash Asus Merlin on AC18 and done review on that (in Chinese).
*
Have similar hardware, but not similar firmware, unless you flash Merlin or something else.

SO one can't flash the retail version firmware into tm's version?

No retail version firmware available for V1 here unless you flash Aus or US version. All retail C1200 are V3, with improved hardware and firmware.

Please check with Unifi in regards to your speed. I'm still getting my old speed capped at 30Mbps, even though they said my plan get turbo-ed last Friday.
While ASUS rt-n14uhp will not be able to support your 500Mbps, but you shouldn't be receiving 35Mbps, because 802.11n goes well beyond that
*
Yes, but you seem to forget that if he stays on 2.4GHz, 35Mbps is normal, as the 2.4GHz is very congested and full of interference plus he might be far from the router.

With rt-n14uhp now, I got 90mbps by wired LAN and 35 - 40 Mbps by wifi. It's normal or I need to check with unifi??
*
It is normal. Thought I replied to you that your RT-N14UHP only has FE LAN ports, so only max 100Mbps even with wired. See 1st page, 1st post, green text, for list of compatible routers and other general info.

I'm contemplating to stick to existing rtn12hp or the new tm router when it comes to install the 100mbps.

Furthermore I'd like to have vpn set at router soon

Adv?

VPN set at router will require high-end expensive models, good luck.

My TP-link AC1750 place in first floor living, and my laptop at same floor connect it using TP-link T4U (USB3 3.0) via wireless 5ghz, the speed vary from 250-380Mpbs, but in GF I only manage get 50Mbps.

I try extend wireless coverage using TP-link R350 still getting same result in ground floor.

Question:
1. Should i upgrade my router to TP-link 3150 to get better coverage & speed at ground floor?
2. Do i need change laptop network adapter to fully utilize using LAN cable CAT6?

FYI, i am on turbo upgrade 500Mbps users
*
Using range extender is bad for the network. Yes, upgrade to C3140 and change laptop network adapter.

QUOTE(y500 @ Sep 23 2018, 03:48 PM)
the tm c1200 having terrible ping spikes..

even the old dlink dir615 more stable than this..

already disable ipv6, any1 got idea how to fix it?

*
Did you read 1st page, 1st post, green text? C1200 is crap. I would recommend changing router to something better, preferably the Archer C7 v5 or v4.
