QUOTE(Martha_Fokker @ Sep 25 2018, 12:01 PM)
Was helping my friend over the phone to help improve his unifi speed after he was turbo-ed to 500mbps
and he was getting only 100 mbps speedtest max on a dlink dir-850l so I suggested he buy a couple of cat6 cables which he did.

After replacing the cables he got even worse speeds like less than 10 mbps. Swapping in his old cables he got
about 100 mbps. After some troubleshooting including a teamviewer session or 2 i noticed that he was sometimes
getting 10mbps and 100mbps link speed between his PC and router.

So after much cajoling and wheedling plus a promise of free beer, I trekked over to his house to see what was up.
Turns out that he was running his brand new cat6 alongside the cable of his power strip so the electromagnetic
interference was causing his link to be inconsistently detected as 100 or even 10 mbps. Re-routing his
cables solved the low link speed (1Gbps) though it got us only 350-400 mbps which I took as a win.

So if you are inexplicably getting lower than expected link speeds between network devices and you
know your cables are good and both devices are correctly configured for 1Gbps you might want to
check if you cables are being run near and parallel(along side) to mains voltage power lines. If your network cable
has to cross a power line make sure it does it at as oblique an angle as possible preferably 90 degrees
to minimize interference. If circumstances require you to route your power and data lines along the same path
try to maintain at least 6" of separation.
*
Good to know....

By power strip is it the block itself or the cable coming out of it?

noticed if i plug DWA182 into USB2.0, it can get around 240Mbps
if plug into USB3.0 it can get above 270Mbps and sometimes 300Mbps..

Do USB interface affects the speeds?

like i mentioned above, if i get Archer T6E, how much it can get @ DIR842 Router?

T6E on DIR-842 expect around 500Mbps maximum on 5Ghz on good signal condition.

On poor signal expect 200-300Mbps.

PCIE wireless adapter is miles better than USB based ones.

Consider getting Archer T9E.

I see... what about Mu-Mimo? noticed that it don't have the routers mentioned recommend to pair with Mu-Mimo adapters ...

and yes, rear of my pc is facing the wall... PCIE with antenna at the back should be good ?

I get about 79% signal strength on USB adapter.... if plug it at the rear direct USB3.0 port.

Should be fine but I highly recommend the T9E for a more significant improvement.

IMHO, MU-MIMO potential is very limited unless most of the devices in your network is MU-MIMO ready.

I see, my router DIR 842 according to the first page, 1st post, green text, it's maxed at 300Mbps +/- on 5Ghz ( i assume ?)

Getting this T9E and DIR878 would be nice?

Intel Wireless AC 9560/9260 ONLY HAS 2 STREAM Please dont be fooled by the 1.73Gbps link speed which you can only achieve by using 160Mhz Channel width (which there is not alot of router/AP have 160Mhz Channel width capability)
Please read the 1st page please

ah yes, i do know... but plugging in USB3.0 ports, sometimes the signal drop to the last dot of the wifi icon before went 'diasbled' and enable on its own a few minutes later. It could be USB3.0 Interference like some forumers said? Not really sure... Plugging into USB3.0 extension would result rapid wifi on/off... , so i can't use extension..

between D-link DWA582 or Tp-Link T9E, both are PCi-E, which do you all recommend more and are they 2x2 or 3x3?

thanks... can't seem to get my DWA182 working properly in usb3.0..

I've bought TP-Link T9E PCIE AC1900 adapter to replace DWA182 which is VERY problematic on the USB3.0 thingy.

Speed i got is mostly range from 268.63 Mbps to 350.18Mbps ,

Do changing the stock antena to 9Dbi High Gain antenna improve the signal strength?
60 ~ 70% in my room, 5meters away from router, 1 wall, 1 door.

What's Beamforming in simple terms and does it boost speed and stability?

Should i enable it in TP-Link T9E?

Thanks. I tried again still same. Start out hitting 40MB/s, then became 30 MB/s, then 20 MB/s all the way to the end. Doing speedtest while downloading still full speed. I will let it be till I figure out why somewhere down the road.
May I know what is your desired outcome?
It seems you just buy hardware slightly better than the previous one each round.

You might as well just go ballistic and buy the best. That way you just need to spend the money once
*
I initially only want to use USB wifi adapters, so i went and bought one for myself and one for sister's laptop since her's doesn't have AC.

I don't have much problem with USB wifi N Adapters in the past, whether on Extension or not, so i though USB3.0 would be a big improvement over USB2.0.
Never thought it have that much problem with drivers, Wifi, interference from USB3.0? , why make them in the first place though... for the speed it has?

So after very frustrating with USB3.0, the last resort would be PCI-E , free of USB3.0 problems. TP-Link T9E... now it works wonder.

QUOTE(dagg3r @ Oct 5 2018, 10:28 AM)
good morning gurus, need some info

I got turbo'ed from 50 to 500 last night.
I have the required equipment to get up to that speed
- fiberhome modem
- DIR 850L wifi router
- cables I confirmed use both cat5e and cat6 to test.

I can't get the speed at all. only 100 up and 100 down using both TM's and Speedtest portal speed test. both wired and wireless (5Ghz).

I have logged a technical report to TM, they informed me that, if in any event that it is my equipment that are 'faulty'. I am to be charged with RM53 ringgit for the service work. Is this new?? Anyhow, all equipment that I owned is provided by TM... wonder what is my equipment(s).
*
Your BTU , or the Modem is capped at 100Mbps, you need to LiveChat with TM and ask them to reconfigure your BTU to 1Gbps.
Once they said it's reset, Plug your BTU directly to your PC/laptop Gigabit LAN port, and check Link Speed from Network and Connections > Change Adapter Options , Properties. it should show 1Gbps.

DIR-878 is a good buy. Unless later hardware revisions have changed it, it is essentially the same as DIR-882.

Seriously? AC2600? wow.... can consider, anyway, it's only 2 day since using TP-Link T9E PCI-E Wifi Adapter, shall monitor the speeds and finally decide on whether really need DIR-878..

QUOTE(FirstAidKit @ Oct 6 2018, 09:09 PM)
Hi  guys. I just got the sms that my unifi has been turboed few days ago. Previously with the 10Mbps package and was told my package has been turboed to 100Mbps.

Restarted my modem and router for 10min and after doing speedtest using Tm speed test using 2 different laptop and a phone device. All I got is only constant 20mbps download speed with LAN/Wifi(laptop). Wondering whats probably wrong with my devices or Lan Cable?

Currently using the Huawei HG8240W and TPLINK AC1200. I know the A1200 can support up to 300mbps. Maybe my Huawei HG8240W fault? Both are free units from TM. Minta shed a bit light from fellow sifu here. Thanks hehe.
*
Your BTU/Modem is most likely the culprit, Capped at 100Mbps ... Also check your LAN Cables ( BTU/Modem ~ Router ) whether it's Cat5e...

How to test :
Plug only your BTU/Modem ~ LAN Cable ~ PC/laptop LAN port, Check Link Speed , 100Mbps or 1Gbps?

If 100Mbps, Contact TM via LiveChat to ' Reset Port ', after they mentioned that they have ' reset port ', turn off all your Unifi and follow ' How to Test ' above again.

I have been rereading the first page about the wired part. The BTU model should support it. The router model should support it. The PC should support it. The networks cables I bought should support it. At this point I think I should call TM and get it sorted out.
*
Yes... indeed all your devices and equipment is supported.

Can you check your BTU by plugging directly to your PC Lan Port?
What's the Link Speed?
100Mbps?
1Gbps?
