Hello,

Is Tenda AC10U suitable for 2 storey house? Current supplied tplink C1200 not stable enough. The signal seems strong, but quite slow at the upper floor. And, I greatly appreciate any recommendation for router around RM200-Rm250 budget.

Oh, I'm using the 300mbps turbo.

Appreciate your help. Thanks
*
I recommend the TP-Link Archer C6. One of the best affordable routers I tested.

Im currently using Asus AC66U (router) + TP LINK T9E (wifi adapter)

my package is 500mbps but with current setup, my wifi speed only top at 300mbps only.

Should i change to Asus AC86U or TP LINK C5400X for better value and performance ?
*
It depends your distance to the router.

500Mbps is only possible when there is line of sight to the router with Archer T9E.

Need helps or recommendation for my case and option below as Im a beginner in networking stuffs:

My Unifi have been Turbo-ed to 500Mbps and am searching for better router than my old TRG212M. Read on the Unifi page and this page I have narrowed down to two options. D-Link DIR882 and TP-Link C2300. I know both of this router are more than capable for 500Mbps based on reading your review also. 800Mbps also can iinm. At least in the future if I upgrade dont need to search for new router again. Cables all are already CAT6 throughout my house. There is easily 10 devices using the network, most of it over wifi and smartphones. my house is 3 storey and the BTU and router is in the 2nd floor.

Any expert views or experiences on these two model on my two choices? Or is there any more recommendation other than these two? Same or a bit higher price range is acceptable for me. Tried to consider ASUS range but it is out of my budget already.
*
I am slightly towards the C2300 due to the much better firmware.

TP-LINK Archer C9 AC1900 or D-Link DIR-878? want good speed/stable on cable and decent wifi coverage and speed to 3-4 device, just got my unifi turbo to 300mbps and there 12.12 sale starting on lazada and looking for a replacement router for the stock unifi router that is old innatech one. and this new router will hopefully able to support 800mb on wired connection in the future.

cheaper options are arcer C6/C7 or D-link 867
thanks!

budget are around rm450 below.  biggrin.gif
*
IMHO, go for either the C6 or DIR-867.

867/878/882 have the exact same chipset and all perform the same signal strength wise. They are just configured differently.

878 is better than C9 due to the much newer chipset and C6 is the best RM200 router you can buy now.

Only a handful of devices will benefit from the DIR-878 over the DIR-867.

@FusionXY and @AVFAN, thanks for the replies.

@FusionXY, couple of questions to follow-up:
1) why the AC5400X over AC5400 and DIR-895L?
- would the AC5400X be "overkill" for my purpose?
- is the hardware & WiFi performance of the AC5400X that much better than the AC5400 to justify the extra cost and footprint?
- WiFi signal strength and reliability is the primary concern. current router is breaking down so need to change ASAP

2) if i budget for the AC5400X, that's ~RM1.3k to 1.4k. is there a better alternative for that budget range?
- i'm open to suggestions of other routers or setups (mesh, etc.)

would like to ask for opinions from others as well if they have experience or suggestions for my situation

@blacktubi, could you also share your opinion? i've read your router reviews and am interested in your opinion
*
Law of diminishing returns apply.

C5400X will have better close distance speed but M9 Plus will have better long distance speed.

I would go for a mesh system. Sidenote: you can use M9 Plus and M5 in a network.

I just wondering why no recommendation for Asus Blue Cave router, it is newer with fast processor. Most experts still recommending AC86, which is much older and more expensive.

I like the look, and will jump to buy with good recommendation and discounts.

I am a huge fan of this model. Many people don't prefer routers without antenna but this cube got really good WiFi coverage.

Thanks for the reply. A few things to add:
1) so far no suggestions to use WiFi repeaters. is it such a Taboo option?
2) from your experience of testing the AC5400X and Deco system, simple comparison of my scenario:
at 85feet from router, what bandwidth can i realistically expect with the AC5400X compared to a Deco setup (how many M9+M5)?
3) for cost efficiency wise, it is better to get the AC5400X since it's a high end router hence has longevity and if in future cabling is available, would be better option with AP setup?
4) my reservation with the Deco setup is the number of nodes needed to achieve a reliable and speedy WiFi. at ~RM1.8K it's either 4xM9 or (2xM9 + 3xM5). is that enough to achieve an "impressive" WiFi network for my scenario? also the SMART home feature is not required and i'm afraid the M9 will be outclassed by the time SMART home feature might be needed in the future
*
1) Not a fan of such implementation as repeaters are slow.
2) On similar situation, even a 3 node Deco M5 can obliterate the C5400X at long distance. TX power is limited by regulation, there's only so far you can go.
3) If you want the best experience now then that would be Deco.
4) (2xM9 + 3xM5) should give you reliable, whole home WiFi coverage with fast roaming.

Another thing worth nothing is AiMesh. They can run in Mesh WiFi mode and can run on WAN backhaul mode shall you decide to install Ethernet cable.

You can consider getting 2 GT-AC5300. Same class with C5400X but with mesh capability. Only thing bad about this is the price. laugh.gif

thanks for the link . Based on why i read and understand, it perform quite similar with minimal differences between the two right?
as per reading your review, do you mean that the C2300 firmware have more advance feature than D-link ones which have only basic feature as per your review? or do you meant that its firmware are more stable than 828 one's
*
More features and more stable.

Hi,

I’m looking for a recommendation. My unifi will be turboed to 800mbps and after some research have narrowed down my choice to between the Archer C2300 and the DIR-882. My priority is Wi-Fi signal strength and to get as high connection as possible for my mobile devices. I have my reservations on D-Link due to bad past experiences but can’t overlook the higher bandwidth. Hope to get some inputs here.
*
The differences are only noticeable with 4x4 devices which only a handful of devices have it.

My 1st choice currently is still the asus blue cave for use on my 3 storey house now served with tp a 1200 on 2nd floor and got many dead ones.

However I am tempted by the mesh system. From the reviews both deco m5 and m9 do not support hypptv. Any mesh that support hypptv directly?

Else I am about experiment with tp link easy smart switch to see whether it can work.  The article on blacktubi seems easy enough for dinosour like me, but comments on the article make me confused.

Or can I connect directly to the Huawei 2840 for hypptv?

No fan of antennas so that is another reason for me to get rid of tplink ac1200
*
You can purchase 2 Asus Blue Cave and let them run in AiMesh mode.

Asus Blue Cave itself is a lot stronger in terms of signal coverage.

As for the Deco HyppTV, many users are having issues with the switch workaround lately. I have yet to investigate why.

got turbo ed to 800 Mbps

Huawei HG8240w (modem) --> Linksys WRT 1900 ACS (router) -- > Linksys 16 port Gigabit Switch -- > Cisco 2700 with 2.4 and 5 GHZ radio

Max speed i can get via wired = 490 Mbps download / 216 Mbps upload.

Max speed i can get via wifi from iphone x (5 GHZ radio) being 3 feet away from ap = 92.7 Mbps download / 82.3 upload.

I have enabled the Linksys WRT 1900 ACS Wifi 5GHZ as well. Iphone x download results is similar to the Cisco 2700 ap sad.gif

Question

1) How to I determine its NOT my fault for not being able to get 800 Mbps - cause if TM fellas were to come to my place and is MY fault then it's 53 myr to them.....sad.gif

2)92.7 Mbps download speed on 5 GHZ is PATHETIC.....what's going on ?

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks
*
It is definitely your equipment’s fault if you can achieve good speed over wired and terrible WiFi speed.

What iPhone you have?

Wired, i can have about 500+ Mbps but no way near 800 Mbps. Reverting back to the TM supplied router, i get around 500 Mbps as well.

I have a Iphone X which I have made sure it's on the 5ghz band for the Linksys wrt 1900 acs and cisco 2700 ap - both yields only 90+ mbps on speedtest ios app

Any ideas ?
*
I have no trouble getting 400Mbps on my iPhone X even on a cheap TP-Link Archer C6 router.

Something is wrong with your WiFi configuration.

As for why it couldn't reach 800Mbps, you have to contact TM.

i notice that my unifi just upgraded to 800mpbs, my modem model is I-240G-P (acatel i think),
my router is given by tm Dlink DIR-842 C2, and my pc is on gigabit network.
at first test with speedtest get around 280mbps.  after set at QoS engine->Bandwith upload and download to 800mbps, my pc get around 500+mbps. Is there any way to increase max, or i have to change my router, thx
*
The DIR-842 is a really weak router, you can consider a router upgrade.

If budget is tight then just keep the router until you can get something better.

Hi, yes I know that.

But my concern is, when Im near the router, LAN and wifi is work. But when in room (20ft away from router), phone hardly to connect wifi, pc with wifi adapter langsung can't work with wifi.

From earlier advise, you said that it probably router issue (tm given one -  tplink ac1200). In this case, I think better change router. But regret i have no time to study most disccusing brands in this forum (tp link, dlink, tenda asus etc) because I cannot tahan room has no internet access. Hence would appreciate if anyone could advise which router is suitable for me:
No require maximum speed but can reach my room with about 50-80mpbs im satisfy enough. Mainly wife and me watch videos via phone, pc and laptop only when in room.
I think I will exclude tplink since heard that tplink's after sales service/ update firmware is bad.
Perhaps will consider budeget around 200++

DIR-850L
DIR-842
DIR-825+
tenda AC10U
*
Either Archer C6 or D-Link DIR-867.

I actually tried a lot of routers and these 2 are the best in terms of value for money.

If you think TP-Link after sales is bad, they are in fact better than D-Link and much better than Tenda.

Hi All, what is the best router for Maxis Home Fibre Internet support Maxis VOIP? thanks

Which kind of Maxis installation you have?

If you are referring to the older one with Thomson router, you will still need to maintain the Thomson router for VOIP service.

i bought RT-N800HP (2.4ghz up to 800mbps) router as a acess point... replace my rt-n12, i initially tot buying this rt-n800 able to give wider range and faster speed. however limited to 100mbps upload n download. my unifi office is 500mbps im able to achieve the download speed thru the main tplink ac1200 but how come the rt-n800hp only gives me 100mbps max download via wifi
*
This is a single band wireless router and Wireless N can only deliver 100Mbps normally.

I have a question, and I am not sure if this has been discussed on this thread or others.

I have TIME Fibre as my ISP with 500Mbps subscription, WiFi router is the TP-Link Archer C1200 that came with the plan. The TP Link website sure says 5GHz: Up to 867Mbps Signal Rate. Tested the connection and it resulted with around 340+ Mbps D/L and U/L using Ookla thru my iPhone 7+ connected wirelessly to the router thru 5G, with both devices sitting within 5 feet apart.

Why is it that my speedtest result so far from 500Mbps,? TIA
*
The claimed 867Mbps is the theoretical link rate. After conversion the max is around 500Mbps.

And WiFi is subjected to interference so that explain why.

Hi. I'm planning to buy a new powerline for the house. Currently I'm looking at Tp-link AV1300. However based on my friend's experience of using powerline(AV600), it never reach max speed compared to connect directly to the modem. According to him, when he tested direct from modem, it goes up to 800Mbps but when he connected to powerline in the next room, it only reach 50Mbps.

May I know if by using AV1300 can increase the speed compared to AV600?

Thanks.
*
Maximum speed you can reach is 100Mbps. Powerline is not efficient in real world situation.

Get mesh WiFi.

Either TP-Link Deco M9 Plus or Asus AiMesh. The rest are quite poor.

There's UBNT Amplifi but hard to obtain.

For 500mbps Unifi,

Is it better to get the
1) D-link DIR-867
or
2) Tenda AC18

I find a pretty alright price for both, Tenda AC18 is about rm70 cheaper.

I searched Blacktubi's website, and i find D-link DIR-867 and no Tenda AC18 review.

I've looked up Tenda's specification, it seems to be able to support up to 600mbps for 2.4 GHz, so it shouldnt bottleneck the speed I am getting, if any.

I see no reason to not get the AC18, other than maybe brand not established (?, sorry i am very noob at this networking thing, all ive heard of it D-link and TP-link) or maybe its harder to set up or something?

I would very appreciate if someone can help me by telling me how the DIR 867 is better than the AC 18. Thanks in advance.
*
DIR-867 will be faster than the Tenda due to the much newer chipset. smile.gif

The maximum speed possible is 100Mbps on 2.4Ghz, there's no easy way to get to even 200Mbps realistically.
