Lenovo Legion Y530 updated with the Nvidia GeForce

Lenovo announced a new version of the more affordable model, the Lenovo Legion Y530, which will be equipped with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. Unfortunately, the more expensive Legion Y730 will still be limited to the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

The Lenovo Legion Y530 with GeForce GTX 1060 will be available in Europe in October, with pricing starting at 1,400 Euro.

Already updated in Malaysian website, but still no option to customize it with GTX 1060

I like all the ports at the back not sides, the bezel is thin, great. But the keyboard looks cramped

I've read your review and it's great review overall.
Just too long and should have TLDR; part.

Btw, where and how did you get student price for the y530?
I wanna use my student card too.

Noted. Will add the TLDR part soon

Ask their sales representative at their online store website. Need to proof that you're a student with any related document

I was placing an order today but the Lenovo Msia site has problem accepting discount codes. It's not refreshing. Price remains undeducted except using the SEP18 code. I can see the url parameter showing eCouponEnable=false

The Chat Assistant is getting the team to fix it. Hopefully resolved tomorrow!

yup really safe. they are using UPS courier service
but bear in mine, waiting time will be around 1-2 weeks since they ship from China and your laptop need to spend some night in customs warehouse for clearance

unless, Lenovo website mention that they have ready stocks in Malaysia laugh.gif

mine ordered on 24/08/18 and only received on 06/09/2018

so the cheapest way possible to get y530 is via official website with 15% discount right?
now I'm considering y520 too, cheaper option.

Hey there,
I am facing exactly the same issue. I was also buying and the site got redirected to a different site and the discount code did not get accepted. I contacted the support team... Let see what happens now....

The Msia website is problematic. It now cannot even add mouse and briefcase as rm1 each. It adds its original price into the cart.

Anyway, I use the SEP18 code to deduct RM200 first. The remaining balance of 15% discount will be ‘refunded’ and the agent promised to include the rm1 mouse and rm1 briefcase

Looks like the 8300H+1050TI model has become more expensive now. 8750H+1050TI model is still a bit expensive despite price drop. 1060 models are definitely looking good

Shit I'm super anti lenovo, my y510p they didn't solder the nvme slot for me to add ssd, plastic break at the vent, and y520 screen is damn bad, they cut cost like no tomorrow. Haven't touch this Y530 physically yet but this deal is quite enticing, not sure if I should take the bait again

Spent some time researching more, seems Y530 comes with bad screen too. And what I saw in the y730 make me don't want it anymore.
Look at the subwoofer placed next to heat pipe, 100% will melt in short period of time, how retarded can they be?
Use some fucking brains la lenovo

Y530 got 300 nits 72% NTSC 60Hz or 144Hz...Only the stock panel is mediocre

Use every inch of space bro. This is the 17 inch version. BTW Y730 has excellent cooling. 3.9GHz all core (8750H) in Prime95 is unheard of.

Damn, gorgeous laptop. Tried at Monaliza KB Mall I'm really like the design and keyboard.
But I'm in dilemma either go for Y720 i7 gtx1060 6gb or this Y530 i5 gtx1050 4gb, and I'm still lurking around to justify which is which.
Haha. Update us with some review later sir.

Received email from Lenovo Msia Customer Service today:

“Kindly be informed that we are processing the remaining refund of RMxxx.xx to credit card xxxx.

It’s estimated to be released to you in 7-15 days (the actual releasing date depends on bank’s procedure and parameter).”

Quite happy with my purchase so far. The fan isn’t loud but playing small time games like StarCraft so far. Lenovo app prompts to update BIOS, smooth. Battery can last more than 6 hours if not running heavy stuff. I bring it to my office everyday, and on my business trip. Only charge it when I’m at home and hotel playing games

Hi, how did you get the prices for these? For some reason, I am unable to replicate your prices for the laptop on Lenovo's website. I am particularly interested in the first option. Is there a limited timeframe for these prices?

I got my refund few days ago. Credit card statement confirmed that.

One minor issue, I noticed my Virtual Box only showed 32-bit options. My OS is 64-bit. Turns out, we have to manually enable the “virtual technology” in the UEFI. All my old VMs are able to run on this laptop now. Not sure if it was disabled during the BIOS update prompted by Lenovo app

This laptop is actually highly rated in China as Y7000. Most of the reviewers recommend this over Helios 300 and HP Omen in term of heat dissipation ability. Some even said that it is better than ROG Strix Scar with GTX 1060. Is this true?

I got my refund few days ago. Credit card statement confirmed that.

One minor issue, I noticed my Virtual Box only showed 32-bit options. My OS is 64-bit. Turns out, we have to manually enable the “virtual technology” in the UEFI. All my old VMs are able to run on this laptop now. Not sure if it was disabled during the BIOS update prompted by Lenovo app

I think apply to all model. You can go to their official website and ask their online chat for confirmation. They will give you a promo code to use in 10 minutes.

Be gentle when taking off the back cover, otherwise you might break the clips

Unscrew all screw at the back cover, pry out the cover gently, unscrew the screws on the heatsink according to the numbering on it

Plan buy this laptop with following specs:-
i5, gtx 1060, 8+8gb ram, 256gb SSD, 1TB HDD.

Which cost around RM5k with the 15% Flash discount. Anything i should take note or can be more cost efficient with lower specs?

Do you have the video guide on how to open the back cover? The youtube videos that I watch were not helpful enough...

I tried to open the back cover, but it seems hard to open the cover, plus already "create" few scratches after many attempts...

Do you have the video guide on how to open the back cover? The youtube videos that I watch were not helpful enough...
*
The back cover is not easy to open, need to apply some force to it (gently). Once you pulled up the sides it can be removed. Be careful not to destroy the clips at side (I broke them)

You destroyed the clips? Is it serious? I might want to search again on the video tutorials on how to open the back cover...

i5-8300H is good enough for games, and it runs cooler too
Get 1TB HDD, upgrade SSD by your own (a good SSD can be bought cheap nowadays). Or just get 256GB SSD and add HDD later

Thanks for the suggestion.

Not an IT person. Is it easy to install RAM and HDD for Y530? If yes, any brand of RAM and HDD also suitable?

Hi, need your advice on the following Y530/GTX 1060/W2y+ADP

https://shopee.com.my/LENOVO-LEGION-Y530-81...9688.1540395170

Any advice from this seller? Or better I get from Lenovo website?

Shopee seller
Pros - cheap
Cons - not sure reputation

Lenovo site
Pros - trustworthy
Cons - if add 1TB HDD + ADP (same spec as Shopee), already reach RM5700.

This model has low sRGB 60Hz IPS, better customize online (need to wait)

EITstore often ships late and doesn't provide bubble wrap packaging

Upgrade storage by your own, cheaper. Also, 8300H is good enough for most games, and it runs cooler

You need to opt for 300 nits 72% NTSC 60/144Hz option

If your workload benefit from multi core performance, 8750H (runs hotter though)

Isn't the warranty will be voided if replacing the thermal paste?
Because I had read some comments or reviews, most of them claimed that the temperature of this model still maintain at 80 - 90 degree even though they had change their thermal paste.

Apart from the temperature, is the noise turns louder when playing games?

No void if you don't damage anything (I've done it a few times with my lappy aldy)

Where did you read those comments/reviews?

Noise level is excellent (one of the reason why I choose this model), however fan control while idling/in light loads can be a bit annoying (in 30+C ambient temp, the fan may suddenly spin fast for 2-3 seconds)

I have no dare and experience to apply the thermal paste😅

Those comments which under YouTube videos, and also from other forums.

Was considering either this model or msi gp63-8rd. Both specs are similar and I prefer y530 design, but gp63 cooling system is better than y530.

I use CM Mastergel Maker Nano. You can choose a good paste from here:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/wh...d-metal.806840/

Retail unit only 8750H+1050TI got 144Hz, the rest use 250 nits 45% NTSC 60Hz IPS

If urgent, might want to consider other options in the gaming laptop list

GPU undervolting is worth it, can try. Process a bit complicated but I can guide you

Hi all, is it still worth to buy Legion Y730 now ? Or better wait for Legion y740 ?
*
i think there be a quite a significant price differences since:
Lenovo Legion Y730 - GTX1050ti
Lenovo Legion Y740 - GTX2060

that is a considerable jump. i am still torn between Y540 and Y740 since the Y740 is thinner, the RGB looks really good, and finally the aluminium feel is nice.

Performance depends on specs. Y730 has slightly better cooling btw

Well the RM 8,197.55 price is just ridiculous. The MSI gl63 with RTX 2060 is sure a bargain. Even with the same processor the MSI is 1.9k cheaper than that.

Bear in mind, msi gl series is entry level of gaming laptop (bulky and questionable quality). I believe that lenovo Y740 is aim toward slim notebook design like asus zephrus, msi gs series, illegear onyx, etc. brows.gif brows.gif

1. True for MSI GL series
2. Y740 is not 'high end' actually, same goes to Onyx (TongFang GK5). They are designed to be cheaper than the high end models like Zephyrus, GS65, Aero etc but still maintain the portability and premium build material with some sacrifices

Y730 had 15% discount a few weeks ago...8% just standard promotion, yet it's still not worth the price

Y740 is expensive, only get it if you need the extra features like TB3

Budget 5k, prefer not so heavy but the weight of Y530 and Y730 is fine. Battery life is not very important. Use for office + graphic work + Web design together
Basically I will open 2 browser together around 10 to 20 tabs, with Adobe photoshop, illustrator Microsoft excel and text editor.
Previously used XPS15, but it's belong to company. Now need to find my own machine.

was pissed off because i thought the screen was quite poor and dim and colours kept "fluctuating" despite me getting the 144hz 300 nit panel..

when using, switching between dark and bright backgrounds, the colour slowly creeps to darker or lighter depending on background. was super irritating to use and getting eye sore..

then only found out windows 10 had something called adaptive brightness feature that is enabled by default..

now the easy fix used to be to just turn it off in power options.
https://lifehacker.com/disable-windows-anno...e-on-1567886994

but since the 1809 update, windows removed that option menu entirely in power options.. and now the only way to do it is through command prompt..
thnakfully found some guides on google and finally manage to turn adaptive brightness off..

and my god, the screen is finally usable and nice.
why tf they even make adaptive brightness enable by default with no ways to disable it is mindbogglingly stupid sia..

not only us, sg also suffer same thing.
2880 sgd for y740 over there..

if convert 1550 usd to sgd its 2106.

2880 - 2106 = 774 sgd higher than direct compare.

774 sgd = 2327 rm...
so their price and ours also around 2k higher compared with US market..
but yeah, thats why we cant compare with US pricing.
US pricing always gonna be way cheaper than us.

Hi guys. Which one more worth it? I'll be using it mainly for work and light gaming/movie if time permits.

8GB DDR4 (foc) + 8GB DDR4 2666MHz

15.6 FHD IPS AG 250N 60
4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA®GeForce®GTX 1050TI

I dont think i need the 144Hz, 300nits display but i7 > i5 right?
Can an i5, 16GB ram, 256gb ssd beat an i7, 8GB ram, 128gb ssd?
Which configuration can last me many yrs without need to upgrade?
Please advise.

I want at least 15" display and keyboard with numpad, min i5 and 8gb ram. And originally budget around rm3500±.
Was looking at Dell for after sales service but only their gaming range have what I want.
Since I end up at gaming laptop range, legion seems the least stand out in terms of design. (I hate the eye catching gaming laptop designs and also it is not presentable/appropriate)

Of the 2 options, which is more worth it?
Other than T480 any other suggestions?

I am assuming battery life isn't a concern for you at all. I just want to set the expectations right here - https://www.lenovo.com/my/en/laptops/ideapa...H/p/88GMY501020

Personally you would need to define your battery life (if it's important) and other work related features (such as a solid water-proof/dust resistant keyboard , longer availability of spare parts and replacement , etc)

Also Lenovo's website has a cheaper option for you to configure your Y530

Battery life is not important. I will be plugged in 100% of the time.
I have compared the same config from Lenovo site, price is higher even after 15% discount. Out of the 2, the i7 one seems like I save a lot.

Just wondering how does the i5, 16gb ram, 256ssd go up against the i7, 8gb ram, 128ssd?

Upgrade RAM and SSD after purchase, cheaper

i5-8300H is enough for your workload imo. And it's easier to be cooled

Just get the i5 , the i5 is quad core anyway ...so you'll get 8 threads .- should be good for your tasks
