Mine is Damon 3MX, cost me RM5.6k only at Bangsar How's Orthodontics & Dental Surgery.

6.5k can get transparent type (eg. InOvation C) like what Teddy using now. So, i feel like the Dr already over charge you. Why not consult other doctor to get more quote?

As per mentioned on my previous thread, you may consider below as guidance to install braces:

1) Are you looking for less pain, highest efficiency ? yes - Damon 3MX (~5.8k or less) / Damon Q (Latest, prices unknown)

2) Are you looking for less pain, high efficiency, with transparent ? yes - InOvation C (~6.5k)

3) If above Q1 and Q2 is no, then you are looking for transditional type which is painful, take more than 2.5 years & above to complete with average result. prices ~2k can get.

4) Is the orthodontist having high experience in this field ?

5) Is the orthodontist certified from the well known Uni, also certified by the product company?

Hope help. smile.gif

hi kentcp,

After reading the recommendation from most of you here, I went to Dr. How for consultation last week. He quoted me RM6k for metal Damon 3, without extraction (excluding x-ray, mold, pic). This is slightly more expensive than the price you listed here. Do you think I still can nego with him?

Another question is, although he said my case does not need extraction, I wonder if he will tell me that I need to extract some of my teeth half-way through the process. I really hope that my problem can be solve without any extraction and as soon as possible. I cannot make up my mind whether to go for it or not. My problem is 2 of my upper and 1 lower gigi taring is not align because not enough space. It's actually not very obvious even when I smile. I'm not sure if it worth the price, time and pain. Any advice?

Thank you.

Thank you.

Hi Karyn, you can nego with Dr. How about the prices. You can quote my name, said that I mentioned is about 5.x K in the internet, that's why attract you to visit him, blah blah... I am not sure if recent any raise of material pricing but i believe you can nego to bring the prices down.

Regarding extraction, it is quite hard for us to judge if you require extraction or not. You need to consult Dr. How, as he is the expert and based on the X-ray, he can see more clearly. Sometime, he will try not extract the teeth and install the braces. after few month, to evaluate the condition, then only advice you if require any extraction. If you still insist no extraction, he will explain to you that the result may not perfect without extraction. Anyhow, it is case by case depend on the person teeth condition.

My suggestion, trust the Dr, he will advice you the best way Then you make the decision based on his advice. smile.gif If your teeth is not serious, the whole process will be very fast. May be about a year can be done.
*
Thanks a lot for the advice. Hope he will be willing to reduce the price. By the way, you suggested me to quote your name, do you mind telling me your name? I guess I cannot quote your forum username right?

Besides, I saw some other equipments mentioned here, like bite stopper, screws, retainer. Are the cost of those included in the RM5.6k or will be charged separately?

My name is Kenny. Even you quote Kent, Dr. also know already. tongue.gif

Well, there will no additional charge for bite stoper, "rubber band". But screws (mini implant) is addition cost (if you require, depend on your condition). Retainer, i'm not sure.

And the day after, I had a friend who came to visit me from Borneo, and i had to bring her around town for decent food. We ended up having spareribs yee mee, braised koey teow with asparagus as side dish.. My friend was totally stunned to see how well i managed my food on the 3rd day of braces..hehe So i went to the gym again today and guess what? I gained back my 1kg! Haha I'm doing quite good i think smile.gif Kentcp, i'm sure you can maintain your weight too..

Wow.. good to hear that you able to gain back your 1KG.. may be i should review my daily meal..

Thanks, Kenny.

By the way, I've another concern. From what I understand, self-ligating system doesn't require teeth extraction in most cases because it has the capability to expand/widen the arch. Hence, I wonder if this will change the structure of your face? Will it make your face wider/fatter?

Hey there,
I can't answer that question but just something to share. I'm using self ligating system also, InOvation C to be exact. Refering to your concern abt whether it will change your face shape. I think it will definitely change, just dunno to wider or more narrow. For my case, my face had became smaller. I've always had rounder face. Many ppl told me i have round face. But i cant do much with it, cos there is not diet or slim down face technique. But after wearing braces, my face had slim down a lot.

Now my face is more proportionate with my body. When i went to shape my eye brow, the beautician told me, "You're face is very small, not suitable for long brow design!" I was more than happy to hear that. My face is small?

Just something to share...hehehe
*
Hi Nikki,

Good to hear that because i'm worried it will make my face even fatter. My face is already round enough. Did you extract any teeth? Your braces is taken off already? Done by Dr. How also?

hi nikki,

yup i have the dental wax but then im afraid i will accidentally swallow it when i'm eating or drinking something..

am using the self-ligating one which i think it's also known as the damon one rite..

also, i'm feeling the pain already which i guess my teeth is starting to move rite? i can hardly eat anything sad.gif

by the way, the whole process costs me about RM5600 inclusive of tooth extraction and xray..not sure if the retainer is included or not..

is the price reasonable? didn't really do much research on the price though..
*
where did you do yours? RM5600 is considered quite cheap. how's orthodontic quoted me RM6000, excluding xray, mold and photos. i've made appointment with how's orthodontic tonight. if i can find a cheaper place before that, i might change my mind biggrin.gif

hope to get your reply soon.

thanks.

Using your bargain skill ya ~~
I failed to bargain... Dr. How said RM5.6k for your case was introductory price and it was 2 yrs ago. Now it is RM6k already. 1 cent also cannot reduce. Anyway, I still decided to go for it. I got my upper set of teeth done last night. Now I'm officially in this Bracesians club already.

Btw, Kenny, Dr. How told me that you were interviewed by reporter and your case will be in newspaper soon. Mind to share with us what is it all about?

I also asked Dr. How about Daemon 3 and Daemon MX. I notice that he used these 2 terms interchangeably. Are they the same actually? At first he said he'll do Daemon MX for me. After a while, he said it's Daemon 3. Although the braces is already in my mouth, but I'm not sure whether it's 3 or MX. Sigh...

Besides, Dr. glued the braces at lower part of my teeth. This makes the braces visible even when i'm not smiling. Is this normal? Does anyone know the reason for this?

I was also told that it might be very painful and I might need painkiller. However, after 15 hours of having the braces on, I don't really feel painful. I only feel slightly pain when I try to bite. Is this normal?

p/s: who are the guy who pretend as girl you all are talking about? Just out of curiosity...

The reporter was asked about experience, reason why I wear braces, Any issue before braces, any issue after braces, etc lo.. I think she is Kuan Ming Chinese Newspaper reporter. I'm not sure when they will publish wor..

I am at How's klinik now. One of bracket is drop off..need to glue back. Later, if got chances, will as him about Damon 3 & mx..

No, Damon will not pain for 1st time. The wire is very thin for first time. For my case, 3rd day only start have feeling. You are right, you will feel the pain when only u bite somthing..

Regarding the backet placing on each teeth is different, depend on your teeth condition. Dr, glue it to make the teeth adjust it to correct position. After few month, he may remove the backet and glue it another position of the teeth. This is the way to tune the teeth in correct position.

Regarding the guy pretend as gals here, we don;t want to discuss much. As it's not related to this thread. smile.gif Just don't like this kind of people only. Feel not honesty as forumer..

Dr. How said that you are going to take off your braces soon. Congratulations! So when will that be? Can post some photos after it's done? As kind of encouragement and motivation for the rest of us here.

Now I'm beginning to feel the discomfort and inconvenience of having the braces on. Cannot chew at all and the end of the archwire is causing ulcer. I tried to apply the dental wax but it took me 15 mins this morning to stick it on. Now is only upper jaw, I cannot imagine how will it be like when my lower jaw is installed with braces as well. I wonder how so many ppl can manage to go through this type of misery...

My mom said I pay so much for misery...

Nikki and Ken,

Thanks for the sharing and encouragement! I've been eating porridge for 4 meals now... Not sure how long I can stand this. Hopefully the pain won't last for too long.

Now I'm practising how to smile without showing teeth. I feel ashame to let ppl c my braces. I should have done this much earlier, when I was still in school. Now I'm working and old already. This is even worse as compared to school time. If I've kids in the future and their teeth are not nice, for sure I'll send them for braces as young as possible.

By the way, I have asked about the difference between Damon 3 and Damon MX in my earlier post. I found the answer in a website. Damon 3 and Damon 3MX are 2 different products. Mine should be Damon 3MX. Here's the link to the website:

Damon 3
Damon 3MX

If I understand Dr. How correctly, he mentioned that Damon 3 is not a good product because the brackets tend to break easily. Damon 3MX is better and more solid.

Ken,
Can't c ur photo clearly on page 1 ler. Any clearer b4 and after photos?

Nikki,
How's the progress of your braces? I've read some of your earlier post. You have ur braces on for around 8 months already right? How's it so far? Any obvious movement? Any photos to post?

Thanks!

Yaya iam using self ligating one.. Just extracted my teeth and it was not as scary as what i had imagined lol .. still bleeding now haih.. My ortho said will pasang upper for me 1st then few months later only lower.. 1 week later going to extract another 2 and can install braces d. hehe.. cant wait tongue.gif
*
You need to extract 4 teeth ar? Sound scary ler... Dr. How said extracting teeth can make face smaller, which sound attractive to me. Anyway, Dr. said I don't need extraction. If I insist to extract, I need at least 2 years to complete. If I don't extract, I should be able to complete in 18 months. I'm wondering if extracting wisdom teeth can help in making my face smaller biggrin.gif Will ask Dr. during my next visit.

Another thing tat I'm curious in is... self-ligating. I only know the wire can move itself... but how? How does it know whether to move left or right? Out or in? Down or up? I'll try to ask Dr. about this in my next visit also. Hope he won't find me very fan.... biggrin.gif

From what I understand, deep bite is when you bite, your upper front teeth cover your lower front teeth more than they should be.

Maybe other ppl here can explain this better than me.

Would like to ask for every1's experience here. Every time after installing braces or appointment, will feel pain right? The pain occurs only when try to bite something? Each time will pain for how long ar? I feel pain for 1 week already. Is this normal? I can bite soft food like... kuey teow soup... Does this mean tat I can only bite soft food for the rest of 18-24 months? Can I eat like normal (rice, meat) in this period of time?

Experience sharing from you guys here are really appreciated.

Thank you.

I would said once the teeth straight (~few month), u will start able to use the side teeth to bite. (I only able to use my front teeth to cut some food that not so hard recently..) Unless dr re-positioning the teeth then "that teeth" will feel pain and can bite food. So.. how we eat ?  Normally, i using the teeth at the back.. because those teeth at the back is in straight condition, no pressure by the braces, so it won't feel pain. "Send" the food to the back and chew it lo...

Soon, u will able find a way to eat when u tak taham with just soft food wink.gif
*
i've eaten lots of soft food like ice-cream, cakes, tong shui, durian... in the past 1 week. Guess my diet plan is going to fail

Added on June 29, 2009, 2:25 pm

Btw, if i force myself to eat hard food, or eat a lot of thing, will it slow down the progress, or will make it faster? anyone has idea about this?

Hey...no worries.. I only had the shake in the beginning of my braces treatment. Cos at first i was not used to the braces and mom being not cooperative towards my food.  cry.gif  So I had (dunno whether i can mention brand here) a nutritious shake to balance my diet and fill my stomach.

After a bout 2 weeks, i managed my eating skill. After about 2 months, i stop relying on the shake already. So no worries on that. Its not that bad.

About spacer... If u see some of mypic, u will see some blue color thing in my mouth, in between teeth. Those are spacer. Its those small rings to place in between teeth. So that teeth will hav space to move. On the first day when doctor put it in, u will feel tight. Cos ur gum are being stretched. And u absolutely no strength to bite or chew. So back to soft food lo. After few days, you should be ok already. No worries. I still have some of the spacers in my mouth.  tongue.gif
Some doctor would recommend spacers to placed b4 braces and some after. I had it after braces.

By the way, i saw Dr. how's article in Guang Ming Chinese newspaper today. One of the picture being used as example would be kent's picture i assume.

Can you post the web address of the article in Guang Ming newspaper here? I couldn't manage to locate it online.

Thank you.

Hi all,

Does anyone know whether dental wax is safe for consumption or not? I think I accidentally swallowed my dental wax just now. Besides, anyone knows how much a box of dental wax costs? I got 1 FOC from Dr. How. I think that box is only enough for me to use for 1 month. Will Dr. How give another box during my next appointment? Or I need to buy myself?

I think I'm going to use quite a lot of dental wax. A few days ago, I tried not to use. But then my tongue itchy, went to feel the cutting edge of the wire, ended up the wire pierced into my tongue. My tongue stuck there, I force myself to pull out my tongue causing it to bleed quite a lot. Kind of scary experience. I'll make sure I use dental wax on every cutting edge of the wire from that day onwards.

Hey peeps

It's been a while since I last posted. Anyway, doctor had installed my lower jaw braces and it hurt more than the upper part. It was 2 weeks earlier than my scheduled appointment as I had problem with loose bracket. The last metal bracket was detached, hence the wires scratching and poking the flesh at the side, causing lots of pain. The doctor fixed the bracket and decided to install my lower braces at the same time (always unexpected outcomes during my visit).

When i reached home, one of the bracket of the newly installed braces was loose again. I was quite pissed off. So, went to see doctor again today.. Hmmph.. do you guys experience frequent bracket detachments or is it just me being too ganas when i brush my teeth?

Btw, nikki..for our inovation-c, do you still get metal brackets for the side of ur teeth? I have 2 metal ones on the upper left, 2 upper right, and 4 lower left and 4 lower right..Aren't we supposed to get all ceramic brackets? I think the metal ones could be damon.. or is it just for my case?

Oh i find it so much harder to brush my teeth with braces on both jaws. I just couldn't be bothered with the loose brackets again sad.gif
*
i wonder whether bracket detachments have got anything to do with the doctor's skill. may I know where did u do your braces?

I didn't feel pain at all since day 1. Is that why the teeth is not moving cos not tight enuff? My next appointment is next week. I feel frustrated for not seeing anything changed after 6 weeks.  sad.gif

It's my 4th week now. I'm using damon 3mx. I don't have to extract any tooth as well. I think my case is almost same as you. I do feel pain since beginning, yet no movement. I guess this should be normal...

Tomorrow will be my next appointment to install my lower jaw. Nervous...
