I'm definitely not interested
Just can't let go of GMS linked app
So if I replace my p20p, it will be with another brand for sure...

this issue kacau me for quite some time already, what i do is pull out and plug in again until get super charge.

if rosak even faster due to this action also no choice la, normal charging damn slow.
*
Well, I'm a bit weary of not only the port getting damaged, but also battery life... The more you plug it in, the quicker battery wears out.

Until today, I'm still satisfied with my phone's battery life, even after roughly 2 yrs owning this (bought sometime in mid 2018) can still get 2 days before needing a charge. And that despite being my main phone, too.

No longer under warranty, wonder how much it cost at huawei service centre, the support app don't have pricelist for charging port.
*
Well
Now I know my next phone must have wireless charging capability.
Though I've never experienced any of my smartphones having damaged ports... Not even from my days of Symbian 60 phones... But I kinda look with envy when my wife use the wireless charging pad for her note 9...

It’s relative. Naturally, wireless charging is slower than wired charging. But the benefit is from the convenience. You can also use it to charge overnight and because it’s slower, battery is not adversely affected comparatively.

Having said that, there are also fast charging wireless chargers in the market.
*
This... normally I'd like to charge my phone overnight, so slow charging is ok for me. besides, like stated above, nowadays got many fast charging wireless phone and pads.

another thing, i don't really like super duper fast charging... p20pro's supercharge rate is the fastest that i'm comfortable with. say what you will, i still feel fast charging will wear out the battery faster.

From personal experience, normal wireless charging gets no hotter than fast wired charging.
*
Yeah, I think my wife's note 9 also don't get any more hotter (if at all) than the wired fast charging that came with the phone. And like I said, for wireless charging, I prefer normal (not quick/super charge) rate.

On the other hand, I still use wired earphones. So, getting that "magnetic" connector is not preferred.

Somehow wireless charging is pointless while the phone can last 1 day long with single charge.
*
I think the discussion on wireless charge started due to the experience of some of us here with damaged ports - which is also a concern I share though not experienced yet. And while for you your phone lasts 1 day, mine normally lasts more than 48 hrs (by 48hrs usually I have around 15 - 20% charge remaining, at which point I put it on the charger). It depends on usage pattern, of course.

Also, can't deny the convenience of just placing your phone on a charging pad/stand to charge it. The only things wirelessly charging for me are my smartwatches. So, yeah, I've experienced and like the convenience.

considering p30 with wireless charging case?

Not really. I normally go for minimum 2 generation's worth of upgrade. If only because I have 2 phones: 1 to upgrade every year... smile.gif

just changed my waifu P20 Pro battery at local SC at only RM62 yesterday Huawei Service Day.

Curious to know, was it already bad?

Mine still can last me 2 days (roughly) of moderate use. 2 yrs old, probably.

me since July 2018. Is not that bad, heavy usage, 1 day.

but decided to change for a few reason.
1. Android 10 / EMUI 10
2. Factory Reset it like new phone
3. New Battery Life Span like out of the box
4. Service Day discount and no labor fee instead of previous promo RM99, now only RM62
5. With warranty 3 months on battery too

So now the phone is like the new phone. Althou I didn't spend RM3299 on the phone (won it from contest) but I think the RM3299 really worth it and well spend for those who bought it.
*
Really agree with you there... I'm very much satisfied with this phone. Bought it when I was working in Qatar, for 2999 riyals. Roughly the same price as in Malaysia.

Unfortunately, I probably don't qualify for the service day discount, eh... Being a middle east set and all.

Anyone with P20 android 10 having issues with google photos stucked at getting ready to backup/storage usage not available?

This is not a new issue for me, been having same problem with google photos not uploading/syncing but fortunately i can solve after few workaround. Just this time i really cant figure it out.

Already update to latest app, clear cache/delete storage, uninstall update/reinstall, remove acc, install latest version found in apkpure, back to reinstall prev versions for few times and still the same. My past 2 weeks photos wouldnt upload/sync.

Been google at this issue but no exact solutions.
*
This is a really annoying issue that seems to be Google Photos unique issue. My p20p does not experience it, but my wife's note9 is always stuck at that stage. Sometimes, seemingly out of the blue, it will resume to backup. Othertimes, nothing works.

The only difference between my p20p and her note 9 that I think would affect the backing up, is that hers has about 6000+ pics and vids to sync/backup.

The reason I say that is because of my exp with my Mi A2 lite.

I remember my mi A2 lite once was also stuck at that stage, when it had thousands (4k+ i think) to sync. What I did was move the files to my laptop and back them up from there. After having only around 600 items, the phone can backup again.

The problem is Google photos will eat up the battery trying to backing up and sync. Maybe that's the issue as my storage is almost full of photos and vids only.
*
That's true. I find my wife's phone always warm when I leave it with Photos trying to backup.

Update
Today I uninstall-reinstalled photos on her phone and did not add any folder (yet). So the phone has only 345 items to backup. It is working for now. This reinforces my assumption that the more you have to backup, the longer (I mean, long as in eternity long) it will take to "prepare for backup"

So far, in about 2 hrs, it's backed up 100+ items (photos n videos). Fingers crossed the process will continue until fully backed up.

Anyone here using P20/P20P experiencing GPS/Maps issues with the latest EMUI 10 update?

I searched the Huawei forums and a lot of ppl are experiencing this too. No official fix yet from Huawei.

What version are you on? I'm still on .161 and so far the only issue I have is only occasionally GPS is slow to lock.

But I blame this more on area being difficult, since my other phone (mi A2 lite) is performing even worse most of the time.

Really ah? Thankfully my unit hasn't suffered the issue. This is a middle east unit, bought when I was working there. Gonna be hard to claim warranty now that I have returned home.

yes. it is officially we don't get the OS updates later for this phone. It was a flagship phone by Huawei only 3 years ago. It makes my heart to swap to OnePlus after this Huawei.
*
How many years do they (one plus) support their phones?

Last I heard, most oem need to support their flagship for 2 major updates only. If you get 3, then it's a bonus.

To be fair, only select few OEMs support their flagship android phones for 3 major OS updates. Most are still running on 2 OS updates. Security updates go more than 2 years, though.

The Mi A1 only recently got its final security update, iinm, around 3 years after release. Though admittedly this is an Android One device.

People who are brave enough, can get more than 2 OS updates, through custom ROMs, though.

If only Huawei allow unlocking of their bootloader for their devices and custom ROMs (I know they once did, but that route is closed), quite satisfied with P20 Pro even though it is lacking a super wide angle camera, with 6GB RAM it should still be quite usable for sometime.
*
I'm starting to notice my camera output not so clear anymore. Often, when using the 3x zoom, I find the result to be lcking detail or focus. And often the colour seem to be like coloured pencil or crayon. Not nice la...

Even more so when trying out macro shots.

It's not so clear vs other better camera modules (more current ones) out there. I knew I was not fully satisfied with the camera when I first got the phone (it can't really compete with SLRs or even the mirrorless cams) but what I wanted was 3x optical zoom for me to take slides in a presentation and it does its job well and night mode is good enough.

The thing about the picture like coloured pencil or crayon has been there since day one - I suspect is the phone using the B&W sensor and then using another camera sensor to artificially fill in the colours - not only at 3x zoom. You can see the perspective/picture shift a bit when the colours change from the vivid one to the not so vivid/crayon like - it's the change in camera modules being used to take the picture.
*
I never really noticed it before. It's only when I look back on my past photos, taken with other phones, that I start to notice. Sometime my old mi 5 seem to take better picture for close ups, in terms of clarity/focus and color reproduction.

If compared with my wife's note9, seems more apparent.

Though I remember the first pics I took with this phone awed my relatives. They thought that I took pictures with the DSLR that I also have. Probably because p20 pro was one of the best camera phones at the time.

yes, great phone, the one that started the amazing night mode trend.

Great phone. Great (for the time) camera and great battery life (even until now). But I have to agree, it's probably time to move on. And unfortunately for Huawei, I won't be buying another Huawei due to lack of GMS.

Not yet. But i can tell that my battery performance had drop quite a lot. Last time full charge last me from early morning to night around 10pm average. Nowadays max until 5pm.
*
I noticed mine also start to degrade. Just day before yesterday, in the morning I found my phone completely drained. It wasn't even 20% yet when I went to bed. Also, it lasts only one day (roughly 4+ hrs of SOT) when it used to last me at least 36 hrs between charges.

My case always let it on charger b4 sleep. Wake up only pull out wire. Battery performance do drop a lot and i blame myself for this practice.

But for 3 years old hp I tend not fully take care as during 1st year own it
*
Same with me. I tend to charge over night and collect it before going to work. It's coming to 3 years also, now. Though I know it's not as good/has deteriorated, but it still lasts me one whole day.

Until about 1.5 yr, I rarely had to charge it everyday: this phone would last me 48 hrs or so, though admittedly my SOT wasn't as high as now.
