I would like to use this thread for discussion about the ICT arm of Petronas, Petronas ICT. It was previously known as iPerintis before 2013.

All are welcome to discuss what is the environment within Pet ICT today. And what sort of career path they offer to IT graduates and senior workers in IT field.

If I'm not mistaken they were once located at Menara Perak, not sure if it's still based there. But they have the core offices at ExxonMobil Tower now.

Previously I heard there was a department on SAP as Petronas used some SAP products for their internal operations, so PetICT I supposed was tasked to maintain and overlook the infrastructure.

Very big company. They have all the people scattered across many sites and many projects. Good environment if you are high performing.

Politics is everywhere. Same as normal IT company

Salary and benefits good? bonus?
Salary is good if your credentials is good. No much ceiling for any positions

Long term career prospects have?
[COLOR=blue]They have a lot of departments with structured management. You can do cross dept. and also apply for many internal openings. They usually prioritize internal hiring

What sort of system do they build or support?
SAP, .NET, INFRA, CLOUD, etc......they're involved in various different technology stacks as they are supporting for upstream and downstream.

Stress level moderate?
Quite stressing. Everything need to follow strict internal governance. And most of the time under staffed. If you are assigned to a project, you are also required to take up support role as well

- Do they follow the same remuneration scheme and job grades as Petronas itself?
Same perks with parent Petronas?

- Are there many iPerintis folks who remain with PetICT today? Because as I look back, there were ample iPerintis discussions back in the past on Lowyat, but nobody discusses Pet-ICT nowadays.

- Do senior executives have greater autonomy than junior execs? How do you describe their 'freedom' or autonomy.

- A lot of 'redtape' to get things done? Protocol? Paperwork, approvals, etc.

- A lot of training provided?

- I believe their technologies are quite niche and vendor-specific correct? It's not like those IT houses that churn out apps, webpages, using PHP, Java, .NET.

- How many years does it take for Senior Exec to be promoted to Manager level?

- I noticed they advertised a lot of Manager posts on jobstreet. Meaning that they hire managers externally on equal basis with say internal promotion?

- Are their Contract positions mostly converted to Permanent at the end of contract? Will they be easily retrenched during oil volatile prices?

- Is the office now only at Exxon Tower? The office in Menara Perak, etc still functioning today?

- A lot of training provided?
They have budget for that

- I believe their technologies are quite niche and vendor-specific correct? It's not like those IT houses that churn out apps, webpages, using PHP, Java, .NET.
Usually only proven techs. Always 1 version behind to make sure they're using the most stable version.

- How many years does it take for Senior Exec to be promoted to Manager level?
Difficult to say. Based on performance most of the time. No automatic level upgrade.

- I noticed they advertised a lot of Manager posts on jobstreet. Meaning that they hire managers externally on equal basis with say internal promotion?
They have a lot of vacancies.

- Are their Contract positions mostly converted to Permanent at the end of contract? Will they be easily retrenched during oil volatile prices?
Easy to convert if u perform.

- Is the office now only at Exxon Tower? The office in Menara Perak, etc still functioning today?
Not anymore. All moved to Exxon.

Is it expensive to commute and eat lunch here?
I suppose one can LRT to KLCC and then walk the tunnel to Exxon Tower via Aquaria?
Food will be on the higher cost right?

Heard that only Maxis has good signal in the towers?

If I'm a person who hates 'redtape', protocol, just wants things done quick and 'dirty' even. Will I fit with Pet ICT?

Compared to say.

A person who upholds high level of SOP adherence with not too much questioning.

Because I used to work in an organization which is MNC, the culture is pretty SOP-less. As long as the immediate lead gives an OK, things are good to go. No filing approval papers, no meetings to justify new approaches. We do have daily informal Skype calls with regional teams in other continents to discuss system issues and problems and plans.

But things are pretty much flex. Even WFH is allowed.
What they want is the result.
