I went to the Starbucks at Pusat Bandar Damansara some time back and was treated to a coffee tasting session. The attractive young lady brought the four of us small cups, and proceeded to teach us about the aroma of the coffee and how the different coffees taste differently ie. the body and general flavor of the coffee. We were also taught that tasting coffee means drinking without sugar haha biggrin.gif

While I don't personally care much about coffee, it was an interesting experience and taught me a lot about coffee. I don't know why we were chosen but I wouldn't mind going through the session again.

Occasionally you'll bump into coffee tasting as promoting their products. And yes Starbucks have sugar syrup at the condiment bar.

I usually find a safe spot first before i leave my things and make my order else i'll just order than only sit.

hello, brother, it's self service, if you go to Coffee bean... etc... you still have to queue up in front of the counter, order your drinks and pay at there.

Aik, i found Starbucks forum in Travel And Living..Hehehe...

Incase u doesn't know, you can customize Starbucks beverage to your liking.

Foam - extra foam (dry), less foam(wet), no foam

Milk - choose from wholemilk, low fat or even soy milk (at small extra charge)

Espresso shots - add shots for more intense coffee flavor (at small extra charge)

Syrup - add flavor to your beverage, choose from Vanilla, Caramel, Almond and Hazelnut (at small extra charge)

Temperature - just let them know if you like your Latte a bit hotter

Whipped cream - at small extra charge

5.50 /hour? That's damn low.
If work 8 hours per day, you get RM44.
If work 30 days per month (no break), you only get RM1320.

So low. Of course you get bad customer service. With this kind of pay, you only attract this kind of employees.

It's amazing how KFC can still hire people paying only RM3.50 per hour.

Starbucks Beverages

Also FYI Starbuks also have branches in the Middle East and Starbucks like everywhere else is an internationality chain franchise so I doubt its non-Halal.

Why the F does starbucks charge RM7 for a cup of green tea? it's just a tea bag with hot water. The profit margin must be damn good for them. And a cup of americano is RM6.. shit! It tastes no different from nescafe kopi o

now i know what the word "bucks" mean for them.. earning bucks from customers

I work in Starbucks. Working environment is good depending on the stores that you're working in.
Starbucks is definitely halal and JAKIM certified. Go to the front door and you'll see the sticker proving so.

If not mistaken CIMB got 10% discount at Starbucks. Always use CIMB to bought drinks but don't remember the exact discount. And its applicable to merchandise and bean too.

If compare to Thermos, I believe Thermos are better in term of keep it hot. I bought my tumbler which are 16oz about RM48 if not mistaken. You will get RM2 off when you bring tumbler to buy coffee everyday. Save a lot if you are frequent and addict coffee drinker.

hehe.. been there done that.. it all depends on the manager style..
we r all human being after all.. so manager will give n take..
we r only allow to use/sms/call at the back office where its not visible to customers..

there are managers who r strict, will keep all the barista hp n lock it in drawer during workin hours... not my store fortunately..

As for the tumbler its more of goin green n not throwing paper cups for take away.. that's why u get RM 2 off for using starbucks tumbler..

use jusco card or hsbc/cimb cc for 10% discount on the tumbler..

its none other than Mocha Frap, caramel macchiato for hot coffee..
u r already spending 13++ bucks..
with 15++ u'll got java chips which taste better with choc chips..

my favourite would be dark mocha frap as its not so sweet since its dark choc wit coffee blended.. mango passion frap when i need some refreshing drink.. greentea frap is awesome too.. cant wait for my shift man..

You think they hire retirees as part-timers?

Yup, the patries/cakes is a rip off! But I guess it is easier selling just coffee and the patries/cakes are just to create an impression of Starbucks having varieties. whistling.gif

u can try.. depends on the manager.. just go for it la.. starbucks emphasize on diversity..
but its nice when u pair it with different types of coffee..
we have coffee tasting session on various blend n pair it with pastries.. so no need add sugar or milk..
just like go to coffee shop order coffee n butter kaya toast but more expensive if u could afford it..

Hi there, I was wondering if the 30% is lifetime or what? Or just when I am working there?
And is it possible to work after 6 PM. I'd like the experience to work after work. It's been a dream of mine to become a barista, at least temporarily.

I dont think you can use the starbucks tumbler and jusco card together but the cheapest coffee you can get is a tall brewed coffee for RM4.75 with the tumbler discount.

I am not sure about starbucks in other country but Malaysia's starbucks is not nice. Used to be quite lousy until they introduces java chip and dark mocha. But still, their ice blended is lousy cause the blended ice is chunky. Not blended properly. Their food is also lousy. No different from any other bakery.

Compared to coffee bean, their ice blended is totally fine and tasty. Their cakes and bakery is unique and great. Food also have more variety there with meals that can actually be filling.

I used to frequent starbucks a lot until the past few years...more coffee bean for me now. And their 20% discount on citibank credit cards is totally worth it.

Both also can.

Drinks quality-wise, I've tried Japan and Singapore's and i dont feel there's difference with Malaysia's. Probably some of you guys' drinks made by moody baristas. If the drinks are poorly concocted, i'd just have to get them to redo it again.

what sort of supply are you referring to? Coffees? Bakeries? Food? Equipment? Cause I do not think so...I know the kitchen equipment supplier for starbucks. Some they totally import from Starbucks HQ. A franchise as big as starbucks, they need to have very strict control policy. The last thing they want would be having same supplier with their competitor.

I have had the buy 1 free 1 promo by Amex and it was alright for me. On the other hand, I've had a frap which was tasteless and it was a normal purchase.

No way starbucks will do kind of things to spoil their business. You can see they are using same method to make the drinks irrespective of promo drinks or not. But understand that different worker will make drinks differently especially newbies. So if you find the drinks watered down or taste weird, just go back to them and tell them. They will most probably re-make a new drink for you.

Yeah. Maybe they're still new since the branch was newly opened. But then again, if you look at their FB during the Happy Hour promo last time, many complained about watered down version too. Oh well...

no need to be embarrased. Small, medium and large is a universal denomination that is common to describe sizes. Just because starbucks wanna be special and used spanish words for it doesn't means they are right. I insist on calling them MEDIUM or REGULAR when I order. I don't give a damn about what they call it venti or mati or p*ki.

If I were you, I'll keep saying Small / Regular / Large until they understood. Or tell them to ask other barista what is Small / Regular / Large. biggrin.gif

Taking pride of their job is one thing. Showing off that they can 'pronounce' cup sizes in Spanish is another. biggrin.gif

For some branches, you can use your HSBC card for 10% discount and then pay using the Starbucks card. But for others, the baristas insist of either paying HSBC credit card or no discount at all.

Aigooo.. SS14 is also not in PJ but in Subang Jaya lor.. That's section 14 without any SS haha..The 1st area using SS is SS1 of kg Tunku followed by SS2, SS3 & SS4. SS5, SS6, SS7, SS8 (Missing link haha). SS9, SS10, SS11 & SS12(Also n missing!)

Thereafter SS13, SS14, SS15, SS16, SS17, SS18, SS19 is part of Subang Jaya liao..

The funny thing is after SS19 Subang Jaya the SS20 suddenly fly to Damajara Kim area, SS21 - Damansara Uptown, SS22 Damansara Jaya, SS, 23/24/25/26 - Tmn Megah, Nahagia, MAS, Mayang area

Yeah PJ-Subang Jaya & Sunway wth all the funny name and keeps on lompat really confusing

SHAH ALAM - Starbucks has recently faced criticism over its Christmas promotion, which features hijabi Muslim models, sparking a debate among netizens.

In their latest social media campaign for a special Christmas offer, Starbucks displayed images of hijabi Muslims, alongside a promotion for handcrafted beverages.

“Double up on your favourite handcrafted beverages this weekend, buy one and get another for free from Nov 25 to Nov 26, all-day long!

“PS: Applicable for any handcrafted beverages, including holiday seasonal beverages and also reserve beverages!” the company said in their social media caption.

This move has led to a flurry of discontent on various social media platforms.

X user, @noajila, pointed out the impact of consumer choices, likening the situation to boycotting overpriced products as advised by a minister. They suggested that even large brands like Starbucks aren't immune to consumer backlash.

“Even big brands are affected. That's why when cartels manipulate prices, we boycott together.

“As the minister said, if chicken is expensive? Don't buy chicken. Choose another option for the time being. Pressurise them,” they said.

Another user, @sabarunii, questioned the appropriateness of using Muslim models with hijabs for a Christmas-themed promotion, implying that Starbucks might be desperate in their marketing choices.

“Christmas promotion but using Malay models with hijab.

“Is Starbucks really that desperate?” she questioned.

@farehajohari expressed surprise at seeing hijabi models in a non-festive advertisement, noting that only hands, products, or models with free hair are typically shown except during specific festive occasions like Hari Raya or Independence Day.

“Usually, it's just hands, products, or free hair talent (except for festive occasions like Eid, Independence Day, and even then, faces aren't shown).

“What are you trying to do? People are boycotting you, you should be more sensitive instead of deliberately causing issues,” she said.

Meanwhile, @syazaismail slammed the use of hijabi models for promoting holiday season beverages, finding it inappropriate and clarifying that her objection was not related to the Israel's war crime.

“Holiday season beverages? And hijabi models?

“That's wrong on so many levels, and this has nothing to do with Israel at all,” she said.

@TerraDrone3 questioned the logic behind associating Muslims with Christmas in the campaign, labeling it as tone-deaf, especially considering the current societal context.

“Even if the current war crime wasn't happening, whose brilliant idea was it to associate Muslims with Christmas?

“The sheer tone deafness is astounding,” they said.

The boycott of the products had been ongoing but it had intensified since the bombing campaign on Gaza since Oct 7, following Hamas’ operation.

Malaysia isn’t the only country boycotting Starbucks.

There are reports from the media overseas that Indonesia and Arab countries are doing the same.

Recently, former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a public statement stating that Malaysians need to continue boycotting these brands.

Netizens have stood their ground and are continuing the boycotts.
