Annnnd it's here finally. The thread I mean.

All hail the new spec/price ratio king!

(with caveats but eyyy who cares for 1.6k eh?)

Also, I wonder if we're going to get the Indian "Poco F1" or the European "Pocophone F1"?

GSMArena full review up. Nope, no OIS. Just EIS (and yes I trust these guys). Also apparently the frame is supposedly metal painted plastic, and headphone output isn't quite up to par... and no NFC (which nobody here probably uses anyway).

Otherwise, they liked it enough to nearly max out the stars they gave it. Hell, who wouldn't love a $300 845 phone, value proposition is just ludicrous.

sry to burst your bubble.

phone so expensive, but no NFC.
*
Like I said, normal folk never really use it anyway lol, so it probably won't matter. 845/8GB does though.

I personally need NFC though to check the balance on my Icoca/Suica cards (amongst many other things), but I'm not looking for a new phone anytime soon myself lol. Just sticking around to see the ongoing results of Xiaomi's interesting little (which is actually what Poco means in Spanish) experiment here.

That said that launcher is pretty dope though. Categorising apps by colour? That's some crazy shit right there Xiaomi and I like it.

Tagged you guys in this thread instead coz it didn’t exist yet last night when I posted, haha. Yeah, this reminds me of OnePlus when they first started. Maybe that’s their strategy, start with low price then gradually increase coz it’s clear they are going after OnePlus with this range of phones. That said, they’ll kill the Zenfone 5z (and probably their own Mi 8) if the prices launched in India is indicative of what we will get here.
*
Or they might just kill, you know, Honor lol. Imma thinking OP has already carved enough of a niche for themselves already as a "premium sub-flagship" (yeah, lol I know), but that's prolly just me.

BUT Honor? Yeah tough luck justifying the purchase of anything remotely on the higher price range from those folks now, though looking at their seemingly humongous Ad budgets, the main brand Huawei seems pretty safe... for now.

Android with MIUI Skin + Looks like Google Vanilla Launcher. lol

I wonder if it's got both MIUI AND Poco launcher built in, considering Poco Launcher is an after launch add on.

whats the app u used to check your card balance??

It's called "Miru-ca" in Play Store. Pretty lightwight and ad-free, though a bit basic design wise.

Be careful of LTE bands not supported in malaysia. In other words, can't receive 4G+ speed.
*
I checked, not much issues there for Malaysian bands. Except maybe Webe/YES, I'm not sure about those two.

If your planning to TRAVEL with the F1 however... Let's just say you're not gonna be as well served as with other more "global" phones.

But hey, $300 rite?

Get a chance to play with Pocophone F1 now.

First impression:
- the phone looks plasticky cheap, but the soft touch materials is nice.
- the screen is natural n nice. White is true white. Better than my note 9 and u12+ display. But black is better on note 9 (obviously) and u12+ .. pocophone lcd bleed is noticeable on black display n in dark room.
- the speaker is the loudest, but u12+ n note9 has better sound quality.
- the rear camera definitely cant beat note9 and u12+ .. i have to wait for tomorrow to really test it out.
*
Yay actual impressions of a local unit (local unit rite?)! Do continue testing.

I am a iPhone user but this poco f1 is too good to pass on with the spec and price.
Having sleepless night considering getting it as a gaming and entertainment phone.  hmm.gif
*
If all you want is gaming and entertainment from 2ndary phone, it's pretty much a straight buy TBH, as most of what it lacks should be on your primary edi (plus a 2nd phone is often less abused in the long run).

So... buybuybuybuybuy... biggrin.gif

irenic Nice NDA you got there bro... I jelly... brows.gif

Also the warranty. Don't go for supplier warranties.

Make sure it is local manufacturer warranty. If you go for a supplier warranty, be prepared to be without a phone for months while they take their time fixing your device.
*
Well, if the 8/256 Armored Edition never reaches our shores officially (which seems rather plausible, considering the "top" spec outside India is the 6gb version), folks who want that specific config (most of the folks here) ain't gonna have a choice there lol.

I'm beginning to think that the 8/256 is actually a limited manufacture model made in low numbers SPECIFICALLY to kick OP India's nuts.

Its just the toughness of the glass. The higher gorrila glass is more resistant to scratches than the older iterations. In most cases, scratches aren't the biggest worry cause you're gonna plaster a screen protector over it anyway.

The more important point is that it is also more shatter resistant but no glass in the world can save a clumsy person.
*
Well the plastic back helps too, that much I'll agree. Or Gorilla 6, which supposedly IS made for drops (or at least according to Corning).

BTW (and a bit OT), do you folks still remember the times when "Corning" meant more dishes and bowls rather than smartphone glass? I wonder if they still make kitchenware today.

To be fair, GG isn't ONLY about the scratch proof-ness, you know. It also contributes to the rigidity of the phone... which - considering the recent teardown from Xiaomi themselves - the Poco is gonna NEED from the GG as it looks like the plastic back panel is also much of what makes the surrounding frame of the phone.

On that end though GG 3 is actually more resistant to shattering/ breaking then the GG 4 (but less resistant to scratches) so it's kinda a decent trade off.

Hopefully it provides enough rigidity for normal, non-abusive use though.

wrong! gg3 and below basically didnt hv shatter resistance.
basically it is useless....

gg4 come out after they found out the majority of screen damage is due to impact.
*
Orly? My bad then if true.

But yeah, people only nitpick because folks (not here yer) often compare the thing with phones twice or three time it's price lol - so the nitpicking is only fair.

I mean, you can't go "hur dur flagships are gonna die" and then pull back with "hey don't expect the world when it's priced like this" at your convenience when people point out shortcomings lol.

In short, it is what it is, a budget build phone with killer specs and a killer price. That much it true and is pretty much unquestionable. As is the compromises needed for it to be what it is.

On another note, Xiaomi not officially bringing the 8/256GB Armored out of India is totally not cool TBH... especially if its simply to protect sales of the Mi8.

+1 for the flagship point. Frankly, this phone is NOT a flagship killer and good on Xiaomi for not promoting it that way. Flagship means top of every aspect, and this phone just gives the experience of one of the aspects of a flagship.

This phone, is a midrange killer.. it kill all other midrangers..

Look, anyone who is interested in buying a flagship is already looking at ipX, Samsung note 9 or even the pixel. They want the best of everything. Phones that can make them then their heads are those like op6, Huawei mate or p20, or maybe even mi mix2s. Their budget is thereabouts and no way they gonna look at pocophone..

But for the midrange segments.. who in the world is gonna buy those midrange Snapdragon 625, 660 when you can get an 845 for the same price, or at least top up a little. Best bang for buck phone of 2018..

I've said it before, I'll say it again: It's an Assassin of Honor (lulz).

*
I *was* too. My previous phone of 2 freakin years was the H8.

Then Huawei decided to be dicks and stopped bootloader unlocks. Kthnxbyeforever Huawei.

To be completely fair, if anybody asks me about an Honor phone now, especially the "higher end" ones, I'd probably straight up tell them to go look at the Poco Loco instead.

"LiquidCool" is just a fancy marketing name right?

All heatpipe should have water inside already isnt it?
*
Yes it's just a fancy name for a heatpipe, though #papan9 wins here by calling theirs "The Carbon Water Chamber of Secrets".

Coz they are straight fwd user
Buy n use

Poco users is bengkang bengkok user
Buy, unlock, root, custom rom, kernel, tweak here n there even unbrick hp by short circuit the usb cable
*
Hey bengang bengkok folks can buy "premium" phones if they wanted too you know. Myself I never ran my iPhones unJailbroken or my Notes unrooted... when I had them lol.

Granted, the Poco MIGHT be better suited at being customed then some phones from the flagship brigade (damn Exynoses so hard to code kernels for lol), so you're not entirely wrong.

And you do have to wait a while for unlock codes for Xiaomi phones in the past (not sure about the Loco Poco), so it MIGHT not be entirely seamless to tinker with either (though it already beats those damn locked Huaweis by a country mile).

But color coding and auto categorization of apps are actually quite interesting TBH.

I'm too much in love with Nova now though lol, even if I have to manually catagorize every freakin thing every time I install something lol.

Thanks again.. Mind asking..
1. What phone besides the pocophone?
2. Your pocophone is pocal or import set?

Sorry if I ask too much..
*
Can confirm the OP6 has 4G+... for more than RM1k extra. Depends if you think it's worth that much for 4G+ speeds lol (well, amongst other things).

Also the Zenphone 5Z for just a little bit more, but I don't actually have one of those so I'm only working off paper specs. Plus maybe the Honor/Huaweis around that price range, but I'm not entirely sure they have 4G+.

But keep in mind all these other options are either more exp then the Poco Loco, or come with lesser specs. So you're gonna have to figure out if 4G+ is worth it.
